Anyone watching this on channel 5 tonight I thought it was pretty good I didn’t nod of or anything and was quite on the edge of my seat at the end look forward to next Wednesday

I think Jason Watkins is going to look back on this and want to curl up with embarrassment! He is so much better than this.

After being engaged in the first week, I abandoned it mid-way through last night’s episode. So convoluted! So unprovable! As you say, the established cast are worth more than that script.

Very disappointed. This is the first rubbish thing that Jason Watkins has been in.

Calendargirl Thu 09-Feb-23 17:53:06

Have to disagree.

He was in ‘Hold The Sunset’ along with John Cleese and Alison Steadman.

Absolutely awful so-called sitcom.

Last comment was to Sparklefizz.

I do think the acting especially the dad is poor
It’s not holding me at all not enjoying it I thought it was promising the first week but gone off and off

I read this T M Logan book a while ago & really enjoyed it so was looking forward to the dramatisation. Not quite what I expected, the book was set in & around Nottingham so the coastal setting threw me for starters. The characters are not how I pictured them but then that’s often the case when you read the book first. I will stick with it even though I know how it ends. I felt the same about The Holiday, I felt the tv version lacked something, the book was so much better.

Ah. I didn't see that one.

I also read the book and didn't recall it being on the coast. I though it was just me misremembering.

You have to suspend your belief in some parts but it's a decent enough story

I haven't watched the series yet as I prefer to binge watch and I think it is showing weekly

It’s watchable and will continue to the end. Jason Watkins looks permanently guilty and the daughter’s boyfriend is too good to be true. So of course he is the son of whoever was murdered back in the day. So we will keep watching to see if we are right. Hope I’m wrong.

Ed's wife is so unlikeable. Really tetchy and nasty.

Calendargirl Sat 11-Feb-23 09:49:36

Ah, I didn’t see that one.

You were lucky, Sparklefizz, it was dire.

A cast with John Cleese, Alison Steadman, Jason Watkins, Anne Reid, Peter Egan, Rosie Cavaliero et al should have been outstanding.

It wasn’t.

They must have all been desperate for the money.

Just finished this series, it was so obvious what was happening. Im just pleased nothing happened to the grand mother she was adorable 😊

HeavenLeigh Sat 11-Feb-23 15:40:28

Yes enjoyed it I’ve got the book

BlueBelle Wed 15-Feb-23 22:02:40

Well what a load of do do
Totally predictable poorly acted I didn’t even like any of the characters
Wish I hadn’t bothered

Greyduster Thu 16-Feb-23 11:06:20

B****y awful!

Smileless2012 Thu 16-Feb-23 11:10:15

I was really enjoying it until last night. A ridiculous ending which had me saying out loud 'ring the police' and how the D managed to find them just in time in the woods was beyond me.

SachaMac Thu 16-Feb-23 11:11:18

Totally different ending to the book which was so much better.

Zeddy Thu 16-Feb-23 13:50:45

The granny was played by Brenda Fricker who played an SEN in Casualty when it first started

Kate1949 Thu 16-Feb-23 14:08:54

I often find that these dramas with an actor as Executive Producer fall short.

SachaMac Thu 16-Feb-23 18:33:27

You could be right Kate1949 I noticed it was Trevor Eve producing in the credits.
I remember Brenda Fricker in Casualty Zeddy she was also in Home Alone 2. I thought she played a good part as the ‘Granny’ in The Catch, probably the only believable character.

BlueBelle Thu 16-Feb-23 19:09:49

I didn’t even believe in granny I m afraid, and as for the scene in the woods, bloody ridiculous

Doodledog Thu 16-Feb-23 20:25:26

Ok, I am going to delete the episodes on my player to make room for something more interesting. I watched the first one, and gave up half way through the second as it was so awful. I thought I might go back to it, but I'm not going to bother, having read all your comments.

GrandmasueUK Sat 18-Feb-23 20:03:58

My daughter and I watched it all, we called it from the first episode. I didn't think any of them looked like family. I like Jason in dramatic roles but not so much in comedy, apart from the detective one. Hold the sunset was absolutely dire. All the good actors but an awful script and dreadful overacting. I thought the supermarket one, Trollied was awful as well.
