What advert makes you want to throw something at the telly?

There are so many. I particularly cringe at the one for Our Time dating for over 50s. I just want to punch the two simpering actors! Grrrrrr
Also, car adverts like Peugeot who think they’ll sell cars by speaking in a silly French accent.
I must be getting old!

Nissan "Who said electrification can't spark excitement?"

Nissan you did! No one normal would even think about electric cars being exciting! Stupid ad

Not quite an advert. But the little promotion ads before Emmerdale are awful 'can people on Emmerdale watch Emmerdale', 'I bet Emmerdale gravy would be amazing'. Along those lines. An insult to my I telligence, even though they are meant tongue in cheek.

it is great to see that the adverts are doing exactly what they are meant to do, they are annoying but you remember them, the christmas ads every year you remember the story or song but if they just showed you that, you probably would not remember what store it is advertising.

I don’t know about that nexus - the advert with the revolting child is for a holiday firm but I’ve no idea which one. My only interest in finding out would be to avoid that one in case it attracted more of his ilk! 😳

Just seen an awful one for Safe Style windows with ex England goalie David Seaman. Truly terrible!

The one advertising pads for women who continually wet themselves

You are a little devil Fanny. Any of JD’s adverts make this 76 year old come over ‘a bit unnecessary’ 😉

I can't stand the one where the 2 women doing yoga and one says she's "letting it all out" (the advert is for incontinence pads), and the Omaze one - that woman's stupid way of talking.

The one where the man cleaning is miming (badly) to a flash cleaning liquid shouty ditty .....and Daisy Daisy.

I find it fascinating to see which ads get attached to which programmes and which channels.

I'm also trying really hard to think if an ad has ever made me buy something.

Not directly, but possibly a thought, "mmm that's not a bad idea" that has come in handy.

I agree Free the blood stained pad advert is inappropriate and just plain yucky.

I hate to admit it but I rather like the Johnny Depp adverts.

I mentioned this on another thread, and someone answered that previous ads used blue water, and there were worries that teens would think they were abnormal!
There’s now a new one for eco friendly tampons talking about a ‘ bloody mess down there’.

The holiday one where the fat brother smirks at his sister because she’s dropped her ice cream, then licks his right in her face.

I’d shove it up his nose if I was her!

Granarchist Wed 15-Feb-23 12:25:00

the animal welfare adverts that anthropomorphise the animals. Has me screaming every time.

I've been trying to think what adverts have made me buy something.

As a child I adored the advert for Copycat Katie. I think that was the name. Small desk with doll sat on one side and child on the other with this plastic device that hooked child's pen to doll's pen and they'd write along with you.

Load of rubbish. Didn't work.

Also that ice cream dessert. Vienetta. Decades ago the advert swooped in and showed the knife cutting in and the satisfying sound made me ask Mum to get it.

Hugely disappointing. That sound was not there in real life.

And I think that's all. Can't think of any advert that's made me rush out to the shops.

Most of them treat us like idiots. Most of them make me determined never to buy the product!

No recording !!! What’s wrong with the thinking ? We record programmes that “might” be interesting and then try them out later on. So easy if several programmes are on at the same time. I hear from the younger members of the family that most of the viewing is streamed but go to streamed stuff when we want to but still need the terrestrial programmes.

With the new generation boxes all channels are streamed, no such animal as a terrestrial channel.

That silly holiday ad with the Christmas music and an awful boy with an ice cream.

Just terrible.

That awful boy enjoying the fact that his sister has lost her ice cream and then gorging on the food. Can’t see the point of it.

the women sitting on the loo telling us about pads

Every time!!!

Fleurpepper Wed 15-Feb-23 09:23:50

All those about germs hiding everywhere, making some people totally neurotic.

shysal Wed 15-Feb-23 09:18:14

I agree about the ridiculous wriggling dancing with anything from clothing or kitchens to selling a car.

Like Juliet27 I like the Macdonald eyebrow raising ad and also loved their lorry driver one featuring the lovely 'Coming Home' song.

I tend to ignore all adverts, use the time to go and do something else or scroll GN.

Me too, I never watch adverts. I read years ago that if you’re having a bad day you can get all your housework done if you just do it in the advert breaks, and it is true. I don’t watch TV during the day, but in the evening every time an advert’s on I get up and do something else.
