Radio 2, bah

Radio 2 has done it now for me. Treating Ken Bruce so badly when he is the only decent presenter/DJ left. I will listen to Ken until he goes on Friday, and after that on Greatest Hits. Radio 2 will no longer come to our house. As for Vernon Kay taking that slot ……. Good luck Ken, we will follow you out the door.

It’s a shame Steve Allen didn’t get Ken’s slot…

Grandmabatty Sat 25-Feb-23 11:06:15

I'm a recent convert to Boom Radio. It's demographic is more me than Radio 2 has been since the departure of Terry Wogan.

FannyCornforth Sat 25-Feb-23 11:12:05

Yes, Boom is brilliant. They play such an eclectic and unusual mix of music.
I think that they cater for everyone who loves good music.
I’m definitely more a speech radio person, but if I fancy some music in the garden it’s always Boom.

Patsy70 Sat 25-Feb-23 11:52:25

We listen to Boom, especially Roger Day. I would also recommend Ray Clark, who has a two hour slot on Radio Kent/Essex/Norfolk from 6pm on Sundays. He is a warm, funny man and plays some great records. I’m not sure what will happen after the local radio programmes change.

I’ve nothing against Vernon Kay as such, but his radio programmes seem to contain as much inane chat and forced hilarity than music, like many of the radio presenters on Radio 2 now. I would rather have had someone like Gary Davis to replace Ken Bruce - a little bit of chat, but calmer, less excitable and lots of music. I get fed of presenters asking us what we’re having for dinner and what we’ve done that day. I shall follow Ken Bruce to his new radio channel.

honeyrose Sat 25-Feb-23 12:28:38

Get fed up, not fed! Oops!

NanTheWiser Sat 25-Feb-23 17:59:55

Another convert to Boom radio! Loving all the nostalgic music from the era of the best groups ever.

NannyJan53 Sat 25-Feb-23 18:05:25

No more Radio 2 for me either. Will follow Ken to Greatest Hits, and alternate that with Boom Radio. I have noticed that Craig Charles is no longer on Radio 2 either, or if he is it must be very late or early morning. Sadly Johnnie Walker may be next.

Jaxjacky Sat 25-Feb-23 18:27:44

I tried Boom, but it’s all old music, so I’ll stick with R2 while I hunt around, I prefer a mix of music.

Sparklefizz Sat 25-Feb-23 18:34:44

I'm a great fan of Ken Bruce and think the BBC have treated him abominably. I'll follow him to Greatest Hits.

My last Radio 2 programme will be Tony Blackburn's Sounds of the Sixties on Saturday mornings. If he goes as well, that will be the end of Radio 2 for me.

Casdon Sat 25-Feb-23 18:54:12

I’m going to miss Ken, and I think he’s been treated shoddily, but I can’t put up with adverts. I do like Vernon, he’s always upbeat and interesting, sorry to be a party pooper.
I like Gary Davies too, he deserves a daily show - there are a couple of others who could go so he can replace them ( but not Sara Cox, as I rate her as well).
Boom Radio isn’t for me.

It's a dilemma, isn't it?

I love Ken, but I want a radio station the plays a mix of music. For instance, I love Lizzo at the moment, as well as the old stuff. Scott Mills old stuff isn't quite old enough for me so I doubt Vernon Kay's will be.

sodapop Sat 25-Feb-23 19:20:45

I think Ken has been treated badly by the BBC as well. I can see no rhyme or reason to bring his leaving date forward. No more Radio 2 for me either.

I’m not sure, Sara is the same age as Scott Mills, but she plays a good selection. He does play some dreadful stuff though, and I don’t find him interesting, whereas Vernon is fun, and he plays good music when he covers for Zoe. I’m going to give him a try and see what I think.

I suspect I will too, casdon.

Such a shame Ken is going, I shall give Vernon Kay a chance, see how it goes. I hope Johnnie walker isnt next or Tony Blackburn.

Ken is highly respected by musicians too, I shall miss his show and will need to find something to replace popmaster to listen to at coffee time.
Vernon Kay brings a different set of knowledge and I enjoy listening to him on the Breakfast show. so I'm sticking with Radios 2 in the morning, 4 in the afternoon for now.

BigBertha1 Sun 26-Feb-23 06:48:59

We will miss Ken Bruce too. Like others we enjoy a mix so it s Boom Gold UK Scala Classic FM and Amazon Music for us.

DaffyDill Sun 26-Feb-23 14:09:28

Deff Boom radio for me .
Never listen to radio 2

Washerwoman Sun 26-Feb-23 14:28:01

I've actually enjoyed Vernon K when he has been a stand in so will give him a go even though it feels a real loss for Ken B to be leaving. However I'm not enjoying Scott Mills at all, neither the chat nor most of his music. So afternoons will see me switching off Radio 2.

Same here.

I don’t need reminding how old I am. 😂

MiniMoon Sun 26-Feb-23 14:50:35

I listen to Scala radio, but since reading all the comments here about Boom I've started listening to that too. It's been years since I listened to BBC radio.

Casdon I think you can listen to Greatest Hits Radio through the internet without adverts. It's called Greatest Hits Premium and costs 11p a day.

Ken is taking Popmaster to Greatest Hits, lixy. Thank goodness.
