I absolutely loved ‘The Greengage Summer’ with Susannah York and Kenneth Moore. I wonder if I read it now if it would have the same effect upon me? I was about 17 when I saw it.

I loved all KM films.

Dr Zhivago, I've watched it several times but the first time I went with my sister and we were both upset by the ending! I couldn't get on with the book though despite generally enjoying Russian novels.

The happiest film I watched as a teenager has to be
Summer Holiday with Cliff Richards.
Unforgettable tune and lyrics

I went to the cinema every week as a teenager in the 70's and two films have always stayed with me. First was Black Christmas starring Olivia Hussey....at the end of the film she was left alone in the house, presumably with the killer still there!

The other was an unusual western/horror film called Hex starring Keith Carradine.

One Flew over the Cuckoos Nest, I thought it was really well done, but preferred the book.

@Dee1012, I love One Flew Over, one of my fave films but never saw it til I was much older

suninthewest Fri 03-Mar-23 14:54:52

The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie, Walkabout and Romeo and Juliet (the one with Olivia Hussey). We were shown all at school when we were about 12, I don't think they would be shown now to school children.

Apocalypse Now, history still repeating.

One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest - the ending broke my heart and Deliverance, which still makes me uncomfortable every time i've seen it.

I have two from my teenage years. 1. The Sting and 2 A Clockwork Orange. The first because Paul Newman was an early crush of mine and it's so entertaining and the second because I found it so disturbing at the time.

Up the Junction with Suzy Kendall, Maureen Lipman and loads of other big stars. I found it on YouTube and watched it a few times. Also Far From the Madding Crowd with Julie Christie - I've seen different versions since but the first was the best.

Not yet a teenager my friends mum took my friend and I to see "Carve Her Name With Pride". I remember I had my purse in my hand and had chewed a hole in it by the end when I realised what was going to happen to the heroine. Such a sad film and a true story sad

The Angry Silence. I was about 12. It was on Saturday Cinema on the TV.

I was so appalled and horrified that people could behave that way towards a man who just wanted to go to work

The exorcist. My friends and I got into to see it even though we were underage. I had nightmares for ages. And totally different Love Story . I read the book and loved it too.

Bridge over the River Kwai.
My dad used to like watching war films.

The horror of war.

I never want to see Soldier Blue again.

Sara1954 Fri 03-Mar-23 10:20:10

That’s Straw Dogs

Sara1954 Fri 03-Mar-23 10:18:40

I don’t think I’ve seen it since, I remember watching it at the cinema with my now husband, and we thought parts were quite funny, maybe I’ve mis-remembered it!

Hetty58 Fri 03-Mar-23 10:10:23

More recent - but Nobody Knows haunts me.

Kate1949 Fri 03-Mar-23 10:09:41

I remember going to see Soldier Blue at the cinema. It was a shock. When it ended, nobody moved from their seats for a couple of minutes.

LadyGracie Fri 03-Mar-23 10:01:29

Whistle Down the Wind
A Man for All Seasons
To Sir With Love
2001 A Space Odyssey .

Sarah, I too liked Straw Dogs but look at the rape scene differently now. 😬
Different times.

Sara1954 Fri 03-Mar-23 09:46:40

Faye
I’m not surprised, they were so young, I can imagine they would have been coerced.
I still haven’t seen The Exorcist, but liked Straw Dogs.
