That's it really. DH and I love a murder mystery and this series has been fantastic. If you like Midsomer Murders, Death in Paradise or Poirot this one will be for you. It's six espisodes and after the first one we went onto BBC IPlayer and watched the rest over a couple of evenings. Anthony Horowitz wrote it and I love anything he's involved with.

It's worth watching just for Lesley Manville's clothes. She's a fantastic actress.

Thinking of the clothes, the lovely probably home made cardi's and crochet hats Joy Sanderling wore...gorgeous.

We watched it last year on Britbox and are rewatching it on iPlayer. Watched two episodes so far and really enjoying it again. Looking forward to Series 2 coming next year I think.

Thanks so much for the recommendations. Have just watched episode 1 and thoroughly enjoying it. I like Lesley Manville, and love her clothes in this.

Really enjoyed Magpie Murders. Clever twist. Thought Foyles War excellent too, written by Anthony Horowitz. But I do have a crush on Michael Kitchens, sigh.....

Read the book and have seen the programme, both very enjoyable. Everyone else here has already said it, Lesley Manville just so good in everything she does.

I shall now start to watch Magpie Murders after all these recommendations. So many of these programmes continue with the same case for the whole six weeks and I am inclined to forget what happened the previous week.
I like Lesley Manville in Mrs Harris goes to,Paris.

I've got Blue Lights on my list to watch. We also love Hinterland. I always say that I love a murder, but I must admit that Grace was just too violent for me to watch. Managed two episodes with eyes averted to my cross stich on my lap.

Just finished watching a series I was recommended,Hinterland.
It’s really good, set in Wales ,as well as different murders each week there is a theme regarding the police themselves going through
I don’t know about anybody else, but I get a bit fed up when something so good like that has finished, anyone else feel like that, or is it just me?
I am on my own as are a lot of us on Gransnet are. Cheers me up

Would highly recommend another new series - Blue Lights - all about new recruits in NIPS. Amazing my admiration for the police in NI has sky rocketed!

I’ve recorded it and shall start watching this weekend. I love Lesley Manville. Enjoyed watching her recently in Mrs Harris Goes to Paris.

Oooooh I saw this and wondered. I really like Lesley Manville as an actor too, so might give it a go. Thanks for the recommendation!

The moment that I saw that this was by Anthony Horowitz, it grabbed my attention. I was not disappointed. A very clever combination of past and present, well acted throughout, and kept us guessing right until the end. Perfect Sunday evening viewing. As an aside, also loved Lesley Manville's wardrobe, particularly so in the present day. So stylish.

I almost wish I hadn't seen it on Britbox last year so I could watch it all over again! Give it time though. I'll soon forget and think, ' Ooh this looks good, must watch?'

I am loving this series, LM is my favourite actress. Light entertainment at its best. Can't wait to watch the last three episodes.

kissngate the clues to the murder in the present day are contained within the book set in the 1930’s (Hope I’ve got the correct decade).

Wyllow3 Thu 06-Apr-23 13:09:39

Alex Rider series noted.

glammagran Thu 06-Apr-23 12:54:46

Watched last year on Britbox. Fantastic! Can’t wait for the next series.

Visgir1 Thu 06-Apr-23 11:45:48

Thank you for the recommendation, its delightful.
I like Anthony Horowitz adaptations
Take a look at Alex Rider series on Amazon Freeve written for teenagers but stella cast and really watchable too.

It started off promising but I switched off when she put her feet up and started reading the book. Am I right in thinking the murders are played out in the book possibly 1940s? not a present day murder mystery.?

Wyllow3 Thu 06-Apr-23 09:24:17

Its absolutely wonderful, just my cuppa T. More, more!

Kim19 Thu 06-Apr-23 09:16:02

Thumbs up from me.

I’m not really a fan of cosy crime drama, so wasn’t expecting to enjoy this, but I did. I couldn’t help thinking how much better suited it would be to Sunday nights than the latest adaptation of Great Expectations!
