Thought it was brilliant.

To my surprise I really enjoyed it! Loved the drones and the highly appropriate ‘Don’t you forget about me’ song (a favourite). Thought the POW speech was great. Well done- the whole concert was not too schmaltzy for once.

I really enjoyed the Romeo and Juliet. William's lovely tribute, the amazing light shows especially the environmental piece and loved the way Take That were so natural and got everyone moving.. I also wished for some Opera from Bryn and The Maestro but what glorious voices they have..

Loved Steve Winwood, he is so talented, remembering him in the 60s (and his grandson was a Page for Camilla at the Coronation).

I enjoyed the Romeo and Juliet ballet, play item, and Take That aven though I’m not a fan. Thought the light show was spectacular. Queen Camilla looked exhausted I thought and in need of a stiff whisky and her bed.

Watched the whole concert but had to fast forward Lionel Ritchie as he was dreadful as were Take That, my DD, a musician with perfect pitch was wincing throughout.
The light show was the best part of the concert.

Oh dear,I'm going to be out on a limb here. I thought it was dire. The lineup was poor. I was looking forward to Lionel Richi but his voice was off key. Take that looked scruffy and old and lacked Robbie Williams, the whole thing was amateur and badly put together. I'm sure you will disagree but we should have done better than that. Apparently Adele was approached ,as was Elton John but all were too busy, too busy to sing for the Royal Family? Please ! Sorry all.

Whitewavemark2 Tue 09-May-23 12:23:00

I always find concerts on royal occasions like this a tad cringy, and this was no exception.

But people enjoyed it, and that is what matters.

The whale was good.

Helz Tue 09-May-23 12:16:20

Loved take that what a way to close the concert

glammagran Tue 09-May-23 12:14:25

I thought the stage, lighting and drones in the sky were terrific - I only watched from when Lionel Ritchie was on. The music however, I found awful but that’s just me I suppose.

Loved It! - Showed what an eclectic taste for all the Arts Charles has - - - -Williams' speech was brilliant and - I think - was a global heard message meant for Harry - his reply to all the nastiness he has created with his film and book - The Royals don't reply normally for all to see and hear - but Harry will hear his brother standing rock solid next to Pa. !

I`m in the minority, but I would have preferred Lionel Ritchie as top of the bill rather than Take That, can`t abide them. At least Ant and Dec weren`t there, they`re everywhere else!

Lionel and the light show!

There was an article in one of the online newspapers that said that some performers turned down the opportunity as it was logistically not possible for them perform as they had commitments to tours and the like. No doubt there would have been others who preferred not to for personal reasons.
We had it on in the background - but it was pretty good. Loved the light images in the sky - very clever.

Calendar exactly what I thought. I actually put on the sub-titles.

Loved William's speech, Take That, Lionel, etc., but what was Paloma Faith singing and wearing? Thought she looked silly.

I couldn’t make out much of what Paloma Faith was singing. She seemed to have a strange way with the words. Not keen on her anyhow.

I must be one of the few people who haven't watched it yet.
But I've recorded it and will watch it later today. It sounds great from what most of you say.

BigBertha1 Mon 08-May-23 09:35:44

We watched the concert as we love all kinds of music. Some of it e.g. Katie Perry in her toffee paper frock left us cold but otherwise fun to see the reactions of the Royal Box. Sophie loves a bop doesn't she. smile

Harris27 Mon 08-May-23 09:15:51

Very good enjoyed it.

Primrose53 Mon 08-May-23 09:08:03

Was Tom Jones on? I read that he was going to be but I haven’t watched it yet.

Wondering why Ed Sheeran and Adele chose not to come.

Millie22 Mon 08-May-23 08:31:56

Elton John was asked apparently and declined probably because he was Diana's friend. William's speech was very good and I just like him more and more. He is so loyal.

Katy Perry and her gold wrapper dress was brilliant.

Washerwoman Mon 08-May-23 07:44:59

I'm actually glad Elton John wasn't on.He's a great mate of Harrys so doubt he'd be asked! It was far more appropriate for Charles that all the acts meant something personal. A link to his patronages. The arts and the environment. I thought the drone shows were spectacular and would love to have been there. Was rooting for the soloist in the community choir as she's from our neck of the woods. And she did brilliantly.I thought for once all the acts were well judged.Even if Lionels singing was a bit ropey !

Calendargirl Mon 08-May-23 07:22:53

Katy Perry’s dress seemed a cross between a Quality Street wrapper and the ball gown that Deborah Kerr wore when she waltzed with Yul Brynner in ‘The King And I’, was the latter intentional I wonder?

I knew nothing about her voice, but thought she sounded good. No idea how it compares to her recordings.

As for Lionel, yes, his voice like so many other ageing singers is not what it was, but how old is he? He still looks pretty trim though, and gave it his all, though he looked a bit puffed by the end.

ParlorGames Mon 08-May-23 07:16:14

What was Katy Perry "almost" wearing?? Dreadful outfit and an even worse live performance. Simply proves how much technical enhancement goes on when singers produce albums etc. Very few artists are as good in live performances.

Sparklefizz Mon 08-May-23 07:14:30

William's speech - very moving - and I saw the look of pride on Kate's face, and the happiness on Charles' face. And it was sweet to see Charlotte pointing out Daddy on the stage to Louis.

Loved Romeo and Juliet (especially "Somewhere" which brought on the tears) - also loved Lucy and Lang Lang. I'm a great Lionel Richie fan but his performance was a disappointment. I wish he'd mimed. Katie Perry - great, and what a spectacular dress!

All in all a terrific night ... and the light shows were spectacular.
