Thought it was brilliant.

OOPs- they wouldn't let me see it- said I was not in the right country to view it- now that's what I call discrimination against us poor Colonialists...

Thanks for the info Grannynanny

I was disappointed. I felt they tried to cram too much into the time. Also I didn't think There's a Place for Us was the right sort of song for the occasion, and there were too many people on the stage during it. Some of the costumes were a bit weird, culminating in Katy Perry wearing a huge gold lampshade!

By the way, Kylie is not British. She is well and truly Australian and I wondered why she wasn’t there, too. The others might be a bit past their due dates by now, older than Lionel.

I read from several sources that Kylie declined her invitation to perform at the Coronation concert. Here’s a link to one of the articles.

^and less of Olly Murs^

We must have missed some of it as we were watching on catch up and it keeps skipping bits. Was he on at the beginning?

Yes, he was the first act.

The light show was really good and I didn’t mind Katy Perry’s dress- thought it was huge and glitzy and very appropriate. It didn’t go on too long which was a plus.

William was great. Why so many Americans? We have so many good singers in the UK and commonwealth. Where was Tom Jones, Cliff Richard, Paul McCarney and Kylie? They are more the King's generation

Watched the whole concert but had to fast forward Lionel Ritchie as he was dreadful as were Take That, my DD, a musician with perfect pitch was wincing throughout.
The light show was the best part of the concert.

I thought the same as you. Also Paloma Faith was awful as well.
I liked the poem read out by James Nesbit and William gave a good speech.

How fantastic was that?

Good old Take That. They know how to close a show!

They do, don't they!

Take That....really? Yes, really!! 😁 😁

Lionel needs to retire He's doing a tour. We didn't think he was as good as he used to be, but I enjoyed it.

Katy Perry? That's the first time I've heard her sing, not bothered about hearing her again.

As for the rest - excellent!

Staging and lighting amazing

Loved the concert, thought it was very uplifting, enjoyed the eclectic mix of performances. So much negativity around these days, it was just lovely to sit back and enjoy it. Must have taken a lot of organisation and planning to pull it altogether.

I’m quite friendly with Zak Abel’s mum so was delighted to see him perform there (even though Freya Ridings had to drop out in order for him to do so!). Agree with many of the comments about Lionel Richie though and I didn’t think Katy Perry’s voice was that great either. So glad Take That chose my favourite of their songs for the headliner!

Steve Winwood's grandson was one of the pages of honour to the Queen (he's also the grandson of the Queen's sister).

Susieq62 Tue 09-May-23 14:26:26

Loved the coronation choir plus Andreas Bocelli and Bryn.
Lionel needs to retire.
The dancing, lighting and costumes were magnificent plus Patricia Scotland stole the show for enthusiasm.
Would have preferred all British artists and Take That were as great as ever.

polly123 Tue 09-May-23 14:25:37

The female pianist was wonderful and so were the two opera singers. Fabulous. The rest was awful especially the tedious Katy Perry with two songs I always turn down when they come on the radio. Take That....really?

rubysong Tue 09-May-23 13:42:39

We recorded it and watched it yesterday. It looked as if the Royal box was miles away from the stage. I'm surprised they could see anything.

Molly10 Tue 09-May-23 13:33:06

I enjoyed it. Another name not mentioned Nicole Scherzinger who was stunning.

welbeck Tue 09-May-23 13:24:40

when i turned on there wer women on the stage lying on their backs and waving golden legs in the air, which i thought was not suitable for a family programme.
it would put off a lot of people from watching.
i know of some who said as much; they don't want their children seeing that kind of thing.
because they tend to be quieter, they often get over-looked, but they are part of our country too.
