New series started last night. Looking good.

Ilovecheese Thu 29-Jun-23 14:02:35

I have discovered that there is a free dinosaur dressing gown pattern to download on the Sewing Bee website.

I'm disappointed that ** is leaving.

This week's garment of the week was exceptional.

Grammaretto Wed 05-Jul-23 22:22:08

It was good wasn't it Callistemon
I find it sad that someone has to leave.
They always take it well and say how much they've learned and friends they've made. No stomping off with tongue out!

Wyllow3 Wed 05-Jul-23 22:33:16

It was clear halfway through the final challenge it was going to be Lizzy. She needed to have chosen something and be sure of the timing - and didn't chose well sadly.

Although the dress is never one I'd wear the winning dress was stunning. Well chosen Asmaa with her bra making experience.

I think the only garment of the night I would have worn were the palazzo pants (not with the bra top) which of course are back in now (as are Cargo trousers - saw some in Next today)

Callistemon21 Wed 05-Jul-23 23:06:14

It was sad because Lizzie had done so well last week.

I still think using scuba material is a bit of a cop-out. No fraying, in fact no need to hem either if you run out of time.

Wyllow3 Thu 06-Jul-23 00:11:41

Yes and sitting down the front jumping up!

Visgir1 Thu 06-Jul-23 09:17:44

She was good but really threw it last night, shame thought she could be a finalist.
Some dark horses this year they are all good, no one stands out for me atm.

BlueBelle Thu 06-Jul-23 16:40:11

I thought the right person won tonight and I thought the right person went home
I think Tony is plodding along rather well

Casdon Thu 06-Jul-23 16:44:40

I like Vicki, I think she’s the dark horse.

Wyllow3 Thu 06-Jul-23 17:40:27

She is certainly improving as the weeks go on when others seem to stay "true to form".

If Asmaa made the right choices I think she'd win, still. Its funny how she often get stuck in the creative bit but hit nail on head with the painting week.

Sparklefizz Thu 06-Jul-23 17:45:21

Asmaa's dress was stunning and very professional. I'd love her to win.

ixion Thu 20-Jul-23 10:41:02

So, farewell to Vicki last night. I do think it was a close call for Tony, tho'.

It's a question of whether a winner needs skill , which Asmaa has in spades, or flair and imagination , which is where the youthful exuberance of youth shines through in Mia.

Casdon Thu 20-Jul-23 10:44:20

I’m sad Vicki went. I agree it’s tough to call this year.

Fairislecable Thu 20-Jul-23 10:51:06

Sewing bee is one of the few programmes I really enjoy and look forward to watching.

I find it fascinating how the sewers develop and adapt week by week.

I really thought Tony would go, but the thought and creativity he put into the boiler suit saved him.

Mia has improved and honed her skills every week. I found it interesting that she deferred her University place and now she wishes to study costume design. I think she has really found her niche.

Freya5 Thu 20-Jul-23 11:34:18

Watched this for only the third time, after talking to my friend who is an avid watcher. You can be taught skills, you can't be taught imagination and flair, that comes naturally, and is a much more important facet of the fashion scene. I feel though that most people are anticipating a win for Asmaa.

Visgir1 Thu 20-Jul-23 11:37:52

Would love Mia to win what a fabulous start to a Career.
Tony and Asmaa both good but so different, perfection vs Imagination.
Looking forward to next week.

MiniMoon Thu 20-Jul-23 16:17:49

Asmaa's boiler suit was fabulous. I loved the subtly sparkly material she chose. She ought to win all things being equal.

DamaskRose Tue 25-Jul-23 12:40:53

I prefer the imagination and the improvement week on week of the Mia and Tony to the perfection of Asmaa.

Troglodite Tue 25-Jul-23 13:20:16

I used to enjoy making clothes - made myself a coat once and exOH a “proper” shirt as well as skirts, dresses. Also loved knitting.
But Arthur Ritis joined me. Put paid to sewing. Can’t even thread a needle now. GBSB lets me back into the joys of creating things. My imagination was nothing like these guys but the satisfaction at the end .....
Until recently, knitting was off the menu but, last year, was prescribed a new med and am back with the knitting needles!

Chardy Tue 25-Jul-23 13:33:11

Troglodite that's excellent news

Callistemon21 Tue 25-Jul-23 14:11:01

Good news, Troglodite
I used to sew a lot, I think I made the first dress for myself at 14 (I did make a wearable skirt in junior school but that was all by hand!) and sewed for years, for the children too.
It was cheaper than buying in those days.

Have you tried crochet, Troglodite? I find it's a bit easier on the arms and shoulders than knitting now.

Sparklefizz Thu 27-Jul-23 20:33:58

Wow! Anyone watched the Final?

lixy Thu 27-Jul-23 20:55:33

Yes, I saw the last bit. Amazing sewing in such a short time, and I felt the right person won.

Shirleyw Thu 27-Jul-23 21:10:26

Yes, enjoyed it very much, and yes, the right person won……

midgey Thu 27-Jul-23 21:14:50

The winning dress was unbelievable! Absolutely stunning as so clever. The right person won…..I predicted during the first show.
