Am I being a bit slow but why is Phillip Schofield being thrown under the bus now? He came out about his sexuality , now revelations about an affair with consensual teenager that he covered up to protect identity , Maybe I'm being naïve but not sure why there has been such a big disconnect from TV at this point .

Even if you never watch TM, have little or no interest in PS Or HW it has been impossible not to be aware of what has been going on, every news channel, every paper and so much online. I had never seen the TM episode where he came out but went and found it online, embarrassing and way over the top, cringeworthy to watch. His interview this week was similar, all about him, why did he not consider the young man, his wife and daughters. He could have shown a little more decorum (old fashioned word but apt). I think he put on a very good show in an attempt to gain as much sympathy as possible, of course he came across as upset, he has been found to be lying to family, friends and colleagues. As others have said this is about a cover up in an effort to keep the squeaky clean image that he chose to portray.

Perhaps I should have added, what has happened is naturally of significance, but instead of this constant drip feeding, can we just wait for the report from the Barrister when hopefully the facts will be proven, and not just Tittle tattle?

can we just wait?

yes, by not posting!

I’m not sure there is going to be a report, it was simply said (on here, I don’t listen to or read the ridiculous amount of news coverage) that PS was paying for a barrister to look after the young man’s interests, whatever that might mean. PS hasn’t helped to get this out of the headlines by deciding to give an interview.

On consecutive days this week, I turned the TV on ‘at the top of the hour’ and on Sky, BBC1, ITV and GB news the leading story has been Phillip Schofield, and newspapers are almost as bad. Personally, I have never been a fan, but I feel concerned about the effect that the constant media coverage is having on him, just how much is one person supposed to take? It seems that every day journalists are digging out titbits to add to this sorry tale. There is going to be an investigation. Can’t we just leave it at that? Schofield’s life is no doubt in shatters, but on a day when you consider what else is going on in this country, and in the world, it is really only of significance to those directly involved. Do they think we have descended to a point where we are salivating for the next distasteful pronouncement? We have a Schofield embargo here, if the name is mentioned the channel is changed, but even so, it is still difficult to avoid.

And ‘sod’ is no better…

Leave the poor b*gger alone.

My thoughts exactly.

FannyCornforth Sat 03-Jun-23 15:50:36

Yes, that’s very true.
It’s a shame, because Stephen really is quite a catch, whatever one’s gender/ sexuality.

Anniebach Sat 03-Jun-23 15:44:06

I doubt people have said that to Stephen , people tend not to make unkind personal remarks directly but snigger quietly

FannyCornforth Sat 03-Jun-23 15:43:00

It could only be a very stupid person who could be bored with
Stephen Fry

Absolutely!

FannyCornforth Sat 03-Jun-23 15:42:41

Taken, not mistaken. I’m sure that you know what I mean!

FannyCornforth Sat 03-Jun-23 15:39:33

My husband is 26 years my senior, but we have never been mistaken for anything other than partners.
Stephen Fry and his husband look ridiculously mismatched

If he was a serial philanderer wouldn’t more have chipped in by now? It seems it’s just this one person. Normally they all pile in/on and more revelations come to light but they haven’t. In his industry being gay is widespread I think. Look at Stephen Fry and his very young husband.

Indeed. Have you ever seen anybody looking so bored and uninterested as Stephen Fry’s very young husband? Every photo I have ever seen of them, he looks like he would rather be anywhere else.

I’m glad that you said that D-Dog, I thought of saying it myself, but I would have been well and truly drummed out of The Brownies!

Yes!

lemsip Sat 03-Jun-23 13:25:10

Phillip Schofield would do better to keep his head down and let it go by instead of keep popping up with more interview.. he is not divorced so should think of his wife who may be distraught.

Galaxy Sat 03-Jun-23 13:23:42

That was the point I was making Lemsip grin

lemsip Sat 03-Jun-23 13:22:33

Galaxy to talk of Rylan having an affair shows you are missing the point.........Rylan's affair was not at work, nothing to do with ITV.

also the schofield affair was known by others working for ITV but when they spoke to bosses with concern for the much younger man
they were 'shut up' by having their contracts changed with clauses they could not accept as journalists so forced out of Itv

. Eamonn Holmes, dan wootton,, 3 yrs ago now carole mcgiven.. And that is why ITV are in big trouble now.

Investigation of actions -yes!
Investigation of those in the know and actions taken/not taken-yes!
Hounding by the media and spreading of gossip-no!
Appearance by PS on the media answering questions that won’t be believed anyway? -No
Carolyn Flack’s mother has it right.
I may not like him, but I’d hate him to be driven to suicide.
Think of the flurry of backtracking and cries of “I never said/believed . . .” that would flood the media and social media if he did.
