Am I being a bit slow but why is Phillip Schofield being thrown under the bus now? He came out about his sexuality , now revelations about an affair with consensual teenager that he covered up to protect identity , Maybe I'm being naïve but not sure why there has been such a big disconnect from TV at this point .

Nanatoone Sat 27-May-23 21:19:38

If there is any suggestion of grooming I would expect a police investigation. I really don’t care for either of these two but have a greater dislike for Phillip. I have no idea why as I don’t know him. I don’t watch their show and don’t care for their presentation of other shows, both put me off and the fast forward button comes out.

There’s absolutely no reason for him to come out with his latest statement admitting he lied, apart from the fact there’s more to come. There’s quite obviously been something else covered up that’s about to come out. I think Holly Willoughby should go too as she’s been part of the whole facade.

The plot thickens….

He apologised to the DM.
Were they about to do a story about him?
I cant decide if I am doing right by talking about this or doing wrong. Perhaps I will stop now.

Doodledog Sat 27-May-23 21:30:06

He hasn't been thrown under a bus. He has been treated in the same way as other high profile people who have abused their position in ways that have compromised young people.

I agree that there is more to come out. I wouldn't waste any sympathy on him until it does. And speaking of 'coming out', when he did so publicly his gayness (or at least his relationship with a much younger man) was an open secret, and done to distract the public from what was really going on.

Floradora9 Sat 27-May-23 21:37:15

He lied to his wife and lied to newpapers and ITV . Think of his poor wife and children . I love the bit on " Have I got News for You " when they showed a clip of Aemon Holmes on this subject . He did not mince his words.

I think unfortunately people who Scofield had been unkind to or upset were just biding their time waiting for his fall from grace. He and Willoughby are a childish pair and the public has tired of them.

Wyllow3 Sat 27-May-23 21:55:51

Waiting for the full story, definitely.

Spinnaker where did you get that information from none of the reports have mentioned anything underage ??? Do send a link !

When the young man was 10 Schofield met him at a theatre company he was involved with. They communicated on Twitter for years until the boy was 18. Schofield communicated with a lot of young men on Twitter.
The boy was groomed.

MerylStreep Sat 27-May-23 22:17:01

There is a poster on MN who has listed the whole time line of when they met, ( including the boys date of birth) when he began working at ITV, etc etc.
Ruth and Eamon must feel vindicated now. Ruth made an official complaint to their bosses.
That was the beginning of the end for those 2.

Why is this unimportant, trivial story taking over the media?
A tawdry chat show and host given such prominence everywhere I look. I’m bemused and put off by so many people rubbing their hands with glee. It’s not an edifying sight.

Unless it comes to light that there has been some criminal activity, everyone should shut up.
TV hosts are two a penny.

MrsNemo Sat 27-May-23 22:35:11

I read that his 'coming out' meant that he had been less than honest for a long time and that this somehow damaged his reputation because he had been deceitful. I find that difficult - a person's sexuality is their business and it seems unnecessary to go public, but perhaps he thought he should speak about it before someone else did. Holly Willoughby was evidently shocked to learn that when Phillip Schofield's brother told him about his abuse of a young boy he did nothing apart from telling him to desist, and said no more about it. What a sad and tawdry end to a career.

Ziplok Sat 27-May-23 22:36:13

Not sure why he’s being given such prominence. Better, surely, to just let him fade into the background. There are far more serious issues on the news right now. For example, the poor little soul murdered by his evil, uncaring drug addicted parents; the atrocities taking place in Ukraine, the cost of living crisis, etc, etc …

I feel sorry for the families.

dogsmother Sat 27-May-23 22:45:54

I believe it’s taking so much prominence because there is more to come, because he was a liar and because he has been involved with a teenager.

Primrose53 Sat 27-May-23 22:49:12

I cannot understand why his wife stood by him when he came out as gay anyway. He had been living a lie for years. She must have noticed.

Maybe now she will leave him.It must be awful for their two daughters as well.

What about his poor Mum? One son a paedophile and now in prison and now this!!

NittWitt Sat 27-May-23 22:58:47

His agents have dumped him, saying that what he told them was untrue.
I'd guess it must be a fairly major lie, for them to do that.

Would you have let Rolf Harris or Harvey Weinstein fade into the background?

VioletSky Sat 27-May-23 23:29:23

I had to Google to see what was going on. I see that his lying about an affair is why Holly fell out with him

But I think the rumours are something we need to wait to hear about

Redhead56 Sat 27-May-23 23:37:13

It’s the tip of the iceberg there is more to come.

They're not rumours. Do a spot more googling. Philip has owned up to having an affair whilst married. He's apologised. He wants to reflect.

These aren't rumours. They are statements given by him, by Holly, by the agents who have dumped him
And ITV as well.

VioletSky Sat 27-May-23 23:59:27

That's not what I was saying was a rumour, I read that but is the truth

I was talking about the rumours he has groomed an underage boy

Sorry I should have made that clear

Quite a few of the things I've read have inferred the same. Sorry, don't have the links though.

‘Implied’ not ‘inferred’

MPs cheat and lie yet get away with it. Boris Johnson became prime minister and is still an MP!

Cheeseplantmad Sun 28-May-23 06:08:22

I don’t particularly like Schofield or Holly for that matter , but I think it’s awful that the media ect is nitpicking his life for all to read . I doubt that he has done any worse in his past than anyone else , many have had affairs , many have lied to save their own skins , who is so righteous I ask ?
People in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones comes to mind , bet the very ones who are harping on about it are no angels theirselves . Schofield is just human with past sins just like every other human on earth .

FannyCornforth Sun 28-May-23 06:58:06

The young man’s name is Matthew McGreevy.

It’s all out there. Has been for years.

I’ve known all about it since Schofield was forced to come out.

It’s why Eamon and Ruth fell out with him.

Holly and the ITV bosses pretending that that they were ‘disappointed’ by ‘deceitful’ Schofield is pathetic and despicable.

Heads will roll and This Morning will probably be replaced by something else, like when The News of The World was ‘replaced’ by The Sun on Sunday
