Am I being a bit slow but why is Phillip Schofield being thrown under the bus now? He came out about his sexuality , now revelations about an affair with consensual teenager that he covered up to protect identity , Maybe I'm being naïve but not sure why there has been such a big disconnect from TV at this point .

This Dr. Ranj

Both posted simply to say, it didn't seem to bother either at some time.

Yes, I agree, Kim’s an odd one to say the least.
I was just reporting what she had said.
I think that she was treated badly on LW however

Kim Woodburn (never one to hold back) has now waded in in her stilettos.

She’s branded Holly ‘a little b!tch’ who ‘aided and abetted’ Schofield (GB News)

I had to Google. Oh, that Kim Woodburn. Looking back at previous interviews, she seems to have made a thing of just being rude. Ugh.

I imagine phrases like "aided and abetted" will be well scrutinised by Ms Willoughby's legal team.

I'm just amazed that in this "woke" society we are enduring at the moment so much attention is being paid to this and why is Eamon whatshis name becoming so involved.

I’m not usually a big tub thumper for LGBTQ issues, but I do wonder if homophobia may be playing a part in the vitriol being poured on PS. I wonder if the other party had been a young woman of 27 instead of a young man what the reaction would have been. After all, Boris Johnson dumped his wife and children for a woman 20 or more years his junior and there were few repercussions although he was Prime Minister of the country!

No, I think that if a very young girl had been 'in contact' with a much older man who had gone on to have a 'relationship' with her under the nose of their collective employers, there would have been a very similar reaction.

This is not about homophobia, gossip or prurience, as is being suggested in an attempt to salvage PS's tattered reputation. I for one couldn't care less about his sexuality, or whether he was 'having an affair' whilst married (like Johnson), and I haven't seen much that suggests that others do either. I don't see this relationship as an affair, as that implies equality and a balance of power.

It is about safeguarding, and covering up corruption. And possibly more besides, but time will tell.

But the young man is 27 now . He was 10 when they first met.

Village gossips? Hanging judges? Shoot first and ask questions later? Definitely, they’re all on this thread and having a ball.

Do I have your permission to quote this post when everything is out in the open, and people are saying how something should have been done long ago?

You need my permission?
Look, it doesn’t matter what comes out in the future the point is that that you and others enjoying condemning him for all bar the kitchen sink don’t know right now what the truth is. Hold off until you do, or is it just too much fun?
I’d say that for any celeb/person in the street, not just Schofield. It’s the only fair thing to do.

Nick Ferrari, who often does the news review on This Morning and in my view talks a lot of sense, has always appeared via Zoom (or whatever). He has been going in to the studio live since Schofield has gone. Maybe coincidence or maybe not a Schofield fan.

I noticed that

FannyCornforth Tue 30-May-23 13:38:03

Iris nothing at all to do with homophobia.
If a powerful man was suspected of grooming a teenage girl, the furore would be exactly the same, maybe even worse

FannyCornforth Tue 30-May-23 13:36:02

Blossoming you are right he doesn’t.
McGreevy’s reluctance to drag this all up is probably partly the reason why it’s rumbled on so long.
Poor bloke.

Did anyone here watch the Morning Show on Apple TV with Jennifer Anniston and Steve Carrell? This situation is very similar!

Apparently, there is a blink and you miss it clip of Phil and Holly in the background of the scene where they are discussing grooming, completely apropos of nothing.

It’s mentioned in Nadine Dorries column in the DM today.

It doesn’t necessarily mean anything, but it’s a bit odd

(Please don’t bother replying decrying either Dorries or The Mail, the clip being in the film is inarguable)

And comparing it to the Cliff and Gambachini stuff doesn’t work.

ITV, Scofield and their respective legal teams will have been all over this from, at the very latest, 2021

It’s said they met at a drama schoolwhen the man who became Schofield’s young partner, was ten years old. The suggestion is of grooming.

I read that the boy was fifteen when they first met but that a relationship didn’t start until he was eighteen. I don’t know any more than that but I think others do. Eamonn Holmes has said ITV knew as they used to send a car to Schofields flat to collect the young man for work.
Whatever the truth I’ve never liked Schofield since he did the dirty on Fern Britten so she’d leave and he could choose a new co presenter. I don’t watch the programme often because I find it bland and boring and PS a control freak.
Bring back Richard and Judy! If only Judy would agree.

Iam64 Tue 30-May-23 13:25:48

Well said again Doodledog. We don’t have the details but it’s clear concerns were raised by colleagues who were shut down. Has light entertainment learned nothing

Blossoming Tue 30-May-23 13:23:04

Philip Schofield’s homosexuality has been an open secret amongst those in the media for many years. It really isn’t anybody’s business except for him and his family.

Matthew McGreevy uses a number of professional sites that I’m still a member of, even though I’m now retired. His career seems to be going well without Schofield or ITV involvement. I shouldn’t think he’ll want to be involved in the current furore.

As you were.

'We' need to learn from the mistakes made when Savile and Harris's crimes were covered up by a conspiracy of silence and by bowing to the culture of celebrity, and not let it happen again. A public outcry is about the only way that ITV (and/or the police) might be pushed into action, and all that the likes of us can do is to make it clear that the won't go away if they ignore it. It certainly appears that they have made no effort to properly investigate the persistent (and sordid) rumours up to now.

Well said Doodledog

*unwise but not illegal”
Imagine, that being your base line for sexual relationships

Casdon Tue 30-May-23 12:53:29

I’m sorry to keep repeating this, but the ball is surely in the young man’s court. He’s 27, and if he wants to involve the police, as opposed to his lawyers confirming he was of age, he will do so.

I'm another who can't understand what all the fuss and sacking is about. Of course if there is a question of grooming then that's completely different and maybe we'll hear about that in the future. Seemed to me from the bits I've read that he and Holly fell out and she refused to work with him so the network had to make a choice which one to keep. Did read some vitriolic remarks from Eamonn Holmes which shows what a thoroughly unpleasant, vindictive person he is.

We are hearing about all of this now grin. This is very clearly not about a 'fall out' between PS and HW - advertisers don't pull out over that sort of thing, and neither do numerous other channels get involved in a discussion of a show that airs on a rival one.

EH may not be a very nice man (he's definitely said some stupid things over the years), and yes, he is being vindictive, but someone has to speak up about things like this, or there will be no protection for those at the bottom of the pile.

'We' need to learn from the mistakes made when Savile and Harris's crimes were covered up by a conspiracy of silence and by bowing to the culture of celebrity, and not let it happen again. NanaDana Tue 30-May-23 12:32:39

I'm not suggesting that I'm comparing like with like here, because as I keep saying, we just don't know the facts, but have we learnt nothing from the totally groundless trial by media of Cliff Richard, Paul Gambaccini, Neil Fox and others? I for one remember the prurient headlines and the speculation in the gutter press at the time. Sir Cliff is one of several well-known figures backing the campaign group Falsely Accused Individuals for Reform (Fair). calling for a change in the law which would mean that those who are suspected of sexual offences remain anonymous until they are actually charged, unless there are exceptional circumstances. Yes, it's possible that Schofield is as guilty as sin, but can we please hold off from burning him at the stake until criminal charges are brought against him, he goes to trial, and is found guilty? If no charges are brought against him personally, what has it all been about? ITV internal politics? Bullying and coercion? Professional jealousy? I don't know.. and frankly, neither does anyone else on this thread.
