Am I being a bit slow but why is Phillip Schofield being thrown under the bus now? He came out about his sexuality , now revelations about an affair with consensual teenager that he covered up to protect identity , Maybe I'm being naïve but not sure why there has been such a big disconnect from TV at this point .

Maybe he just didn't like PS and HW

GB News is the news channel to watch ko holding back on things that need to be said and heard.
ITV and BBC are just comic stories now

Correct. GB News presenters and guests say what they really mean unlike ITV and BBC where they are scared to say anything.

Eamonn Holmes is a very well respected journalist and presenter. Other presenters who are great at their job on there are Alastair Stewart, Michael Portillo, Revd Calvin Robinson, Nana Akua, Michelle Dewberry. They also have guest panels, usually of 3 people and they have some good old ding dongs and discussions.

I'm another who can't understand what all the fuss and sacking is about. Of course if there is a question of grooming then that's completely different and maybe we'll hear about that in the future. Seemed to me from the bits I've read that he and Holly fell out and she refused to work with him so the network had to make a choice which one to keep. Did read some vitriolic remarks from Eamonn Holmes which shows what a thoroughly unpleasant, vindictive person he is.

I don't 'care'. I have my own problems. However, I have always watched the show and am interested and a bit fascinated. That's all.

Yes, I’d be extremely surprised if Holly returns.
She’d be mad to.
She needs to protect and prioritise her sponsorship deals with M&S and Garnier

Apparently M&S have taken down the posters of her wearing their 'As Worn By Holly' range in at least some of their stores.

I completely agree with you. Who on here has never told a lie? Everyone does it at some point. And so many gay (etc.) people feel they have to live a lie because of the homophobes around them. It can be extremely destroying for them to live this way. Such a shame we still have a society of judgement instead of acceptance.

Does anyone care?

Evidently we do, yes!

I assume that anyone on this thread must care. As must anyone concerned about the protection of minors, and about the integrity of a major UK TV channel. Of course we don't need to watch it, but we should at least be aware of what we are tacitly supporting when we decide to opt into or out of doing so.

It’s the age and the power balance. The boy being young teenager when they met, also from what I have read he was still young, so an older powerful man in a position such as Philip schofield should not have had any sexual contact. Bit like a teacher having a favourite pupil and waiting till they are 16 to have a sexual relationship. It’s very wrong and immoral, even if it is a legal age for sexual activity, it’s so wrong! He should not ever work on tv again in my opinion. Let alone if he groomed the boy or not, he still took advantage of his power and it will open the doors for other powerful people in industries where young people can be taken advantage of…

The suggestion is of grooming. As a psychotherapist working sometimes with teenagers, I've seen the effects of grooming which can be so subtle as to almost defy identification when it's happening. However, one cuts the cake, Schofield is a man of reputation/celebrity and has/had a responsibility not to place himself in any position where he might influence a malleable mind for sexual gain. Full investigation required with no cover ups - enough of that with Saville and Harris.

I think this week will be when it all unravels even further. HW is on a half term break (conveniently) so what will happen regarding her return next week is anyone's guess. ITV need to move quickly now methinks ?

Kate1949 Tue 30-May-23 11:55:09

Kate1949 Tue 30-May-23 11:54:15

Yes he's good isn't he Fanny ? I suppose he wouldn't mention the Schofield business for fear of losing his spot on the show. It was very noticeable that he suddenly appeared live after Schofield had left.

Ooh, that’s interesting Kate
I like Nick too and I listen him on LBC most mornings.
I don’t think that he’s mentioned the Schofield business 🤔
Nick’s a veteran news hound with a keen nose for a story, I’m sure that he knows exactly what’s what

Kate1949 Tue 30-May-23 11:43:02

Nick Ferrari, who often does the news review on This Morning and in my view talks a lot of sense, has always appeared via Zoom (or whatever). He has been going in to the studio live since Schofield has gone. Maybe coincidence or maybe not a Schofield fan.

FannyCornforth Tue 30-May-23 10:31:29

Oh, I didn’t know about the drugs allegations

Doodledog Tue 30-May-23 10:24:01

I'm not sure what the implication was. Eamonn did make a point of saying that only one LW was not 'anti-PS', but I didn't pick up on why that is important. Unless it was to do with the fact that 'the boy needed a lot of money in his life', which was a clear suggestion that he was on drugs (something else that both HW and PS have long been accused of being involved with). Or maybe he knew that if he had said that none of the LW could stand PS one of them would come forward to say that it wasn't true. Everything he said would have been very carefully scrutinised.

Christine Lampard is a regular stand-in for Loraine Kelly’s slot 9-10am during the holidays.

She used to present The One Show with Adrian Chiles.

well that would make sense as she was on Dancing on Ice with him before Holly I think

welbeck Tue 30-May-23 02:09:12

well someone on MN reckons it's christine lampard as there are 100s of pics of them out together . apparently.

Doodledog Mon 29-May-23 23:42:13

The only one who might be in with a chance of presenting on TM is Stacey Solomon, but I have no idea. There must be something behind his singling out of one Loose Woman though.

I hope MM is ok, and has been given a golden handshake. It sounds as though he will need therapy.
