To be fair, it might have been an unfortunate choice of vegetable- maybe he’d just eaten a bitter one, or he hates them and Fiona sneaks them into his food, so they were on his mind - who knows. I don’t think for a moment that we won’t know the connotations though, and he’s got a senior position in the media, so he should have been a lot more careful in a statement about something as serious as bullying and more.

martin frizzel, an editor at itv this morning has just ended his career by his infantile remark when asked a serious question by a journalist. a bullying and even toxic atmosphere has come to light at the show. When people took concerns to him this was the level of response they got causing them to be shoved aside and off the show.this was all over the tv news and media and MPs at an enquiry are asking questions.

He had answered politely the previous day.

The (alleged) corruption and bullying at ITV is a serious matter though. As was said in the enquiry, it doesn't give the impression that a 'staffer' going to him with concerns would be taken seriously, does it?

In all of this, are people forgetting that 'poor' Phillip Schofield is on record as having known about his brother abusing a young man to the extent that he got 12 years in jail, yet did nothing about it? That is not gossip - he admitted it in court.

There is no doubt that people at ITV (including Frizell) knew about it, yet they kept him on. Had the boy not had the courage to come forward three months later, it could still be going on. As it was, he suffered for at least three months longer than he needed to.

When the story of his brother broke, my first thought was that nobody should be blamed for the actions of someone else; but finding out that this wasn't the lie that PS told (that it was consensual masturbation and a one-off), but prolonged abuse serious enough to get 12 years was enough in itself to tip the balance on that one. Then there's the fact that the world and their dog knew about the runner and the fake 'coming out' pantomime. Again, at face value, it seemed like 'just a workplace affair' that happens all the time, and is nobody's business, but then the links to the stage school and so on came out and it took on a different light.

I cannot for the life of me understand why people are so keen to defend him after all of that, or at least wonder why he didn't lose his job before he did.

No, he knew quite well what he was saying and its meaning.
Saying it to a woman reporter was unpleasant and misogynistic.

A pity, he used to be a good investigative journalist. Obviously power has gone to his head.

I'm inclined to agree, Callistemon, but people are defending far worse things on this thread, so I thought I'd suggest a less damning possibility.

I didn’t realise he made this comment to a woman, but since he apparently did, I agree Callistemon that this was misogynistic.

What did he ever do to you?
PS did not say in court that he knew serious abuse had gone on with his brother, rather that the lie that his brother had told him was the truth which is a different thing altogether.
There is no police action as far as I know linking PS to anything of a criminal nature at all.
He lost his job because he lied to his bosses about being gay and having had a fling/ affair with a former member of their staff and also a falling out/ power struggle with HW.
I neither know or particularly like PS but find the comments about him on here a load of gleeful malicious gossip.

And I find yours cravenly dismissive of an exploitative relationship with a junior member of staff whose getting and losing of a coveted role on TM depended entirely of PS's patronage.

I don't 'have it in for' PS, but I support a thorough independent investigation of all allegations against him, and am not fooled by his 'poor me' interview and his disgraceful invoking of Caroline Flack's tragic death.

I don't know the law about failing to report a crime, but he admitted knowing that he was aware of his brother's behaviour and rather than report it told him not to do it again. That is reprehensible, whether or not it is illegal, and that, coupled with his behaviour towards the young runner should have been enough to lose him his job.

Frizell's dismissive attitude suggests that far from being a decent boss, he would be the type to shrug off complaints, or move the complainants out of the way.

Egg on faces? If anything criminal comes out about PS then I and lots of other people prefer to not comment now in other words not rush to judgement based on SM gossip. If anything further ‘comes to light’ then it does, but it doesn’t reflect well on comments about it made right now.
