Just thought it might be an idea to have a thread for sharing thoughts and comments this Wimbledon fortnight for those who follow.

Thinking too of Lucca, tennis' no.1 fan.

My day is complete
๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜ dear Fed.

Missed him ๐Ÿ˜ฒ
We had a visitor (very welcome but it would have been rude to leave the telly on)

Spoiler Alert:
Anyone watched the Coco Gauff match which has just finished? Some wonderful rallies. I didn't like the shouty Kenin and really hoped Coco would win. Sigh.

Oh no, I didn't see that match.

What a pity. โ˜น

I watched all of it and kept shouting at Coco to โ€˜come onโ€™. I wanted her to win and another here who didnโ€™t like Kenin who I thought was so bad tempered. Such a shame but only one winner.

Ooh little Alcatraz - I reckon heโ€™s one of the next big stars.

Ooh, Feliciano Lรณpez ๐Ÿ˜
Shallow, I know๐Ÿคญ

Really missing Sue Barker โ˜น

The start of the coverage yesterday was a shambles. They didn't show the beginning of Novak's match and the iPlayer was down.

That woman who never stops talking๐Ÿ˜ก๐Ÿ˜ก๐Ÿ˜ก๐Ÿ˜ก

I agree Callistemon and hope she goes out in the next round.

There was some excellent tennis Callistemon but Coco just couldn't quite manage to win.

I don't like it when someone uses those kind of tactics, that's why I'm glad that Nick Kyrgios has withdrawn.

It's a form of cheating, trying to upset your opponent.

Thought the wet grass on centre Court a bit of a debacle.

I suppose they can't be too careful when multi-millionaire tennis players are involved! ๐Ÿ˜

I did laugh, though, having spent a damp day last week watching primary school children enjoying sports day in the rain. We did say "Only the British could have a school Sports Day in the rain!"

ixion Tue 04-Jul-23 09:53:29

Britain's Andy Murray says he remains "one of the best grass-court players in the world" as he prepares to begin his Wimbledon campaign on Tuesday.

How far do you think he will get this year?

High hopes for Cameron Norrie

welbeck

at long last women players are allowed to wear dark coloured underpants.
but unless they all wear such, all the time, it might be rather outing, perhaps . . .
would that matter ? not really.
once something eventually changes, it seems perfectly normal.

I think all the women players should be wearing dark coloured underpants now that the ruling has changed, as you say welbeck

Fanny. I second your comment re AC and some.

Sad Coco lost.

Absolutely love Wimbledon, sadly not going this year.

You're right Louella it's not good sporting behaviour and very unlikeable. I was hoping Coco would hammer her in revenge smile Some very good tennis played though.

Totally agree!

Very sad to see Coco go out. Her opponent was awful the way she kept cheering and pumping her fist if Coco missed

As Martina said, it's not good sporting behaviour

DH and I were lucky enough to watch the classic Nadale vs Federer Wimbledon final on the big screen from Henman Hill back in 2008. What a match. Our dear friends actually had seats on Centre Court, and watched it in the flesh. Rain stopped play for a while, but it passed, and we were able to watch it out. Missed our train home to Tyneside, but well worth it.
As for this year, yes, Djoko will probably win, but I've never been a fan. I'm missing the big names and the personalities of yesteryear, and is anyone really coming along to replace them? Not so sure.

Whitewavemark2 Mon 03-Jul-23 14:51:17

Thanks I intend to give it a go this winter. galen who used to post did some delightful stuff. Mostly throws and blankets, but the colours were gorgeous.

Whitewavemark2 Mon 03-Jul-23 14:49:41

The wool still hasnโ€™t arrived - before 16.30 apparently.

Callistemon21 Mon 03-Jul-23 14:36:32

Iโ€™m going to knit a long line cardigan for the winter
If rain stops play you could finish it!!

Yes, all set - some knitting wool arriving today so Iโ€™m ready!

I'm trying to crochet a straight blanket, first attempt - the edges have already increased, decreased and increased again.
It could get worse as the excitement mounts ๐Ÿ˜

๐Ÿ˜„๐Ÿ˜„ thatโ€™s what I want to do is teach myself crocheting.

Iโ€™m going to knit a long line cardigan for the winter.

I taught myself from YouTube videos during lockdown. Years ago I attempted it but never managed straight edges, they're getting better but not perfect.
Granny squares are a good way to start.
