Just thought it might be an idea to have a thread for sharing thoughts and comments this Wimbledon fortnight for those who follow.

Thinking too of Lucca, tennis' no.1 fan.

Nick Kyrgios has withdrawn.

Phew.

Poppyred Mon 03-Jul-23 10:24:40

Yes disappointing! I quite like his shananigans. 🥱🤣

Poppyred Mon 03-Jul-23 10:30:31

Anyone know how Lucca is?

Highlight of my year. I’m missing Rafa and Djokovic will probably win but hopefully someone else will have a great tournament and lift the trophy.

I wonder sometimes whether BBC commentators are paid by the word. Incessant wittering in what appears to be an attempt to fill every second of airtime. Sometimes interesting, sometimes just talk for the sake of it. Queens and Eastbourne were classic examples.
The mute button chez Ixion is well used.

Yes, all set - some knitting wool arriving today so I’m ready!

Agree re incessant chat from commentators. John McEnroe goes on and on and Mark Petchy just labours on about technicalities and how a player should or shouldn’t spin or slice or grip. Like you, my mute button is much used.

Phew.

That’s a shame.

I'm trying to crochet a straight blanket, first attempt - the edges have already increased, decreased and increased again.
It could get worse as the excitement mounts 😁

My Australian family find him an embarrassment.

I shall miss him, utter tennis genius, when he’s not having a bad day!

FannyCornforth Mon 03-Jul-23 13:24:31

Thanks for the thread ixion
I’m not really a tennis fan, but I do love Wimbledon

Sparklefizz Mon 03-Jul-23 13:31:08

Thanks for the thread ixion. I'm all set, but sorry that Nick Kyrgious isn't playing because he's exciting to watch.

😄😄 that’s what I want to do is teach myself crocheting.

I’m going to knit a long line cardigan for the winter.

We love to watch Wimbledon, such summer fun!

Nick Kyrgios is a fantastic player, hope his wrist recovers quickly.

I'm not a fan of Andrew Castle or John Inverdale commentating either. Looking forward to seeing what happens

Louella12 Mon 03-Jul-23 13:56:19

So very disappointed that Krygios has had to withdraw.

How do you watch and knit?
I’m typing this in the break but will stop now or I’ll miss the exciting bits.

One of my favourites things about the Wimbledon fortnight is that it keeps Andrew Castle off LBC!

at long last women players are allowed to wear dark coloured underpants.
but unless they all wear such, all the time, it might be rather outing, perhaps . . .
would that matter ? not really.
once something eventually changes, it seems perfectly normal.

I taught myself from YouTube videos during lockdown. Years ago I attempted it but never managed straight edges, they're getting better but not perfect.
Granny squares are a good way to start.

If rain stops play you could finish it!!

Whitewavemark2 Mon 03-Jul-23 14:49:41

The wool still hasn’t arrived - before 16.30 apparently.

Whitewavemark2 Mon 03-Jul-23 14:51:17

Thanks I intend to give it a go this winter. galen who used to post did some delightful stuff. Mostly throws and blankets, but the colours were gorgeous.
