I do wish that there were captions when the camera zooms in on someone watching. I spend ages trying to work out if I should know them and, if so, who the Dickens they are and could easily miss a vital bit of the action.

I presume they are 'someone' of the camera wouldn't zoom in!!

I wanted to be John Newcombe’s mistress in the 70’s ,

I think you'll find John Newcombe was mine!!

That’s funny, kitty. I could have sworn he was mine. Oh, those eyes.

I even persuaded DH to grow a droopy moustache. Didn’t tell him why though. 😂😂

There's a queue!

As he married in 1966 better chance of me being his mistress than all here marrying him , yes ?

Blossoming Sun 16-Jul-23 22:17:23

I was only 12!

Blossoming Sun 16-Jul-23 22:22:13

Now stay calm ladies, we don’t want you all swooning.

No, I first clapped eyes on him in 1965

ixion Sun 16-Jul-23 22:51:01

And his tennis prowess?😉

Callistemon21 Sun 16-Jul-23 22:55:37

Yes, that was good too 😁

Blossoming Sun 16-Jul-23 22:58:01

It was a pleasure watching him play ixion, those powerful, erm, serves! He was quite a mover grin

Never ‘erd of ‘im, before my time.

Watching the ball boys and girls, where are the youngsters? They all look about 18 at least. They seem to have developed a military style of snapping themselves back into place as well.

Oreo Sun 16-Jul-23 23:29:05

That guy would look ok if he lost the tache.

I ball girled for John Newcombe in 1961!
He was lovely but a bit old for me even then. I was rooting for cheeky Chuck McKinley 😍
Our school provided ball girls for Queen's Club a week or two before Wimbledon.

John Newcombe there

I fully intended to marry John Newcombe in the 70s

Get in line! I think I first went to Wimbledon in 1966 with the school, and subsequently with my sister. I always checked beforehand if I could see JN in the singles or with Tony Roche in the doubles.

Whilst you are all arguing over John Newcombe it leaves Pat Cash for me, thank you very much.

(I had a conversation with him in the chemist at Sydney Airport many years ago, DH still laughs as he said I was blushing and stuttering like a fawning teenager 🥰🤪)

BigBertha1 Mon 17-Jul-23 09:49:38

What is all this stripping off on court - makes me go all hot.

Callistemon21 Mon 17-Jul-23 11:23:32

😁

Yes, they could just put a top on over their (presumably) sweaty shirt. Save us seeing all those muscles.

My favourite as well, he still looks good - he was talking to Clare yesterday.

Callistemon21 Mon 17-Jul-23 11:35:19

He's ok but his earring puts me off 🙂

Sorry - a diversion, please forgive me Kitty, but I’ve been ranting to poor old DH about this all week (and he does agree with me, well done him 😊).

But why oh why are the uniforms of the lines people (I know that this is the wrong term) at least two sizes too small?

Cinched waists on portly men; buttons straining on averagely proportioned breasts; shoulders about to burst at the seams…

Why?

I saw this! Absolutely no need. You would think they would have more pride in themselves.

I get annoyed when spectators cheer if someone loses a point, so rude. Cheer if someone wins of course.

Borrheid55 Mon 17-Jul-23 13:04:50

Loved John Newcombe and Stan Smith, Ilie Nastase, Arthur Ashe, that was my era!

Grandma14 Mon 17-Jul-23 13:15:44

Sorry you're all wrong - John Newcombe was mine!!!!

Wow how lucky was that!

Anyone remember Henri Leconte? He was the one that made me swoon.

I was lucky enough to be at Wimbledon on Saturday and caught Pat Cash just as he’d come off an outside court and was posing for photos.
