Is anyone still listening or have you given up?

Scribbles Thu 10-Oct-24 22:31:22

Have we been told yet whether or not Emma is to be prosecuted? We heard a couple of weeks ago that Will won't be but, listening to tonight's - well written and well acted - epi, I was longing to see the horrible woman banged-up!
I've always loathed her since she was a teenager - so whiny and entitled and with a huge chip on her shoulder about social class. Tonight's hysterical wailings were just too much!
She brought up her oik of a son. Maybe she should have taught him the difference between right and wrong and then she wouldn't be sobbing and screeching when justice was done. Mother love is no excuse for colluding with her ex to help him escape justice and I'd love to have seen all three of them in the dock.

I must have missed the judge saying concurrently because I do know what it means.

Iam64 Thu 10-Oct-24 21:25:09

I agree we need to improve our CJS - returning to investing in Early Years like the Every Child Matters approach would help reduce teenage pregnancy, substance dependence and juvenile offending

I think, when it comes to young offenders charged with a first offence, holding down a responsible job, etc, a non-custodial sentence could result in a positive change in the course of a young person’s future, and benefit society in the long run. This outcome was probably in line with sentencing guidelines, but this was my gut reaction to the outcome of the case.

There must be cases like this fictitious one in real life.

Iam64 Thu 10-Oct-24 20:45:17

Yes concurrently - at the same time ]

This is another occasion when the scriptwriters got it right. The Judge’s reasons for the sentence had me back listening to this kind of sentencing in real life.
It prompts debate on whether it will push George further into the selfish impulsive thoughtless/deliberately cruel etc etc path he’s been following. Prison is punishment and to protect the public. We should of course be developing alternatives to custody but I’m not convinced the severity of the offences could ever have resulted in anything other than the chokey.

Wow! That was a good episode. Emma needs to be thankful it wasn’t a longer sentence and he probably won’t have to serve the whole three years.

If it’s one and two years concurrently doesn’t that mean 2 ( concurrently =“at the same time”)
And with good behaviour surely he’ll be out in 1?
Shame for the actor, he’s going to be looking for 12 months’ work now!

eGJ Thu 10-Oct-24 20:22:25

I’m abroad, so have only just listened! Time difference means tomorrow will be very late, but can’t miss it and the new podcast that will follow! If I can’t get it I hope fellow GNetters will keep me up to speed! I’ve seen that George isn’t in next week’s cast, but the effects on the whole clan and the village will be enormous.

Iam64 Thu 10-Oct-24 20:16:01

The conscious act of deception to put blame on Alice and Harry. Perverting the course of justice rarely gets anything other than a custodial sentence. People rarely come out of prison better people.??

Delila Thu 10-Oct-24 20:05:11

I’m quite surprised that George was given a custodial sentence, especially as there were some strong mitigating circumstances, he showed genuine remorse and insight into what he’d done, and had some supportive character references. I doubt he’ll come out of prison a better man.

I cant help it but I don't like Alice. Never have.
I have always really liked Emma, who I know isnt that popular (or certainly wasnt on MN)

Delila Sun 06-Oct-24 19:34:02

Well, it is an everyday story of country folk after all. Country folk are like that - aren’t they?

mae13 Sun 06-Oct-24 18:51:25

Now what about George getting a cosy suspended sentence, Alice forgives him, Harrison forgives him, ditto Fallon etc, etc, and everyone kisses and makes up - just in time for Christmas - and all the bitter, mean, angry and spiteful recriminations are swept away and everyone crowds into The Bull to toast each others' health with that sodding Mulled Wine that gets wheeled out every year?

All in a spirit of Forgive & Forget.

Just like Real Life, innit?

🤣

NotSpaghetti Mon 30-Sept-24 01:02:08

I had no idea they were even listening eGJ.

The BBC is capitalising on the popularity of The Archers among millennials with a new official podcast about the longstanding show. This will be exclusively on BBS sounds and go out at 7.15 starting on October 11th the day of George’s sentencing

Wyllow3 we know Will isn't being prosecuted but is Emma?

That’s what I wondered, but I’m an omnibus listener, so will have to wait. For me, throwing that into the mix spoiled that storyline, which has been one of the better ones ( apart from Harrison’s OTT reaction).
I’m finding so many of the characters very annoying these days, in fact Jazzer and Lillian are about the only two who don’t annoy me!

And where is Ian being school parent of the year going to lead?

merlotgran Mon 23-Sept-24 08:59:35

Thank goodness the Flower and Produce show is done and dusted. It gets sillier every year.

shysal Mon 23-Sept-24 07:56:09

I expect Eddie will think up a ridiculous way to 'help' George, which will backfire and make matters worse for him.

mae13 Sun 22-Sept-24 16:47:04

This storyline will run and run and run........

NotSpaghetti Sun 22-Sept-24 15:28:41

She may not have had a letter yet

Wyllow3 Sun 22-Sept-24 15:13:58

True, Will could have assumed - unless he opened her letter.

silverlining48 Sun 22-Sept-24 13:49:37

Will have to wait until 7 tonight to find out.

silverlining48 Sun 22-Sept-24 13:48:06

Well Will has had a letter, but Emma hasn’t …. not yet …..
