Is anyone still listening or have you given up?

Farzanah Thu 20-Jul-23 19:32:09

Several dramatic storylines lately about Rob, and tonight George. Just wondered what fans, if there are any still, think.

Visgir1 Thu 20-Jul-23 19:37:33

Ohh yes I'm still on board with The Archers.
George is a little s**t and Rob well.. Karma.

merlotgran Thu 20-Jul-23 19:48:34

It’s very good at the moment. The last time Rob was the main storyline everything else was boring and hardly worth tuning in for but the issues with George have slowly been building up to tonight’s major family bust up. Great acting all round.

Very good and well woven story lines at the moment.

Gave up long ago.

As a child I used to listen to the Archers while I ate my supper, I still do that now!

welbeck Thu 20-Jul-23 20:47:29

what was the bad thing george did in his previous employment ?
i haven't been following it closely, as you can tell.

eGJ Thu 20-Jul-23 21:05:12

Woah! I’m abroad, and your comments have just made me use “catch up”! Thanks folks………where do they go from here.
welbeck (He ate a sausage roll at Berrow which could endanger the sterile environment)

If I’m driving when it’s on, I always listen in, then have to follow up. Then I forget again.

Farzanah Thu 20-Jul-23 21:41:40

I’d just about given up on it but lately things have perked up. It’s a bit like an addiction, have listened on and off for years but get bored & leave periodically but still keep returning.
Bit like Gransnet……..

He obviously has a problem with women and had a couple of verbal warnings from his grandfather. It was also suspected that he broke the biosecurity on the farm by eating a sausage roll and disguarding the wrapper by the pig pens.

thanks for explaining, eGJ, and DAR.

Have up long ago but DH still listens but on catch up. I like Sunday mornings to be lovely peaceful music.

Calendargirl Fri 21-Jul-23 06:36:12

Never listen to the Archers, but looking at some of the comments, sounds on a par with Corrie.

I honestly don't remember the last time I listened. Several decades ago, I would think. I also never watch TV soaps. Enjoy all the theme tunes, though. smile

I’m with Farzanah in being somewhat addicted to TA. I am currently back as a regular listener, usually to the 2pm rather than 7pm
The sw are writing well, the complexity of the Helen - Rob story has us shouting at the radio and wondering what happens next.
I didn’t hear the George episode last night but see him as an unpleasant, selfish, manipulative young man with an inflated sense of entitlement.

Patsy70 Fri 21-Jul-23 08:42:25

We haven’t listened since it all changed with lockdown! I’m way behind, but might give it a try, although will be completely out of touch with everything.

You might have a tinge of sympathy for him when you’ve heard the episode, Iam

I have no time for George but the raw emotion was very well acted.

mumofmadboys Fri 21-Jul-23 09:57:50

I listen to it regularly usually on catch up in bed with head phones on. I love it and find it a relaxing end to the day!

Still listen to the omnibus every Sunday, which I record on my TV. I am enjoying the current storylines. Agree that George is a sh*t. He lies his way out of a lot of things including setting fire to the post box a while ago.

Totally agree with both parts of your post merlotgran. A very successful rounding of, the so far distinctly less than likable, character of George.

It won’t matter how long it is since you Patsy. Nothing much changes, they just ramp up the familiar every now and then.

I was glad that George got some home truths from his family at last, and hope it will shock him into turning his life around.

On the other hand it could do the opposite! I couldn’t help wondering where his anger, arrogance, and deceitful nature came from.

Farzanah Fri 21-Jul-23 16:24:53

I predict that next storyline will be Pip starting a relationship with Stella. There have been plenty of hints.
Stella far the only gay woman in the village, or ever in TA as I can recall.

merlotgran Fri 21-Jul-23 16:57:29

Anna Tregorran, Carol’s daughter is gay but I don’t think she lives in Ambridge although she is a regular visitor.

Fiona Lloyd, Jim’s daughter, is also gay but also doesn’t live in Ambridge.

I thought Stella was homing in on Ruth to begin with but Pip would be more believable.
