Is anyone still listening or have you given up?

Wyllow3

Friday's episode - Well, it looks to me that Cloive thinks he can use George's wrong doing to manipulate the family judging by his threats tonight. That he's "got something" that could bust the family apart.

Did other posters get the same impression?

I really dont like this SL!

Does anyone reckon that Naive Georgie has 'confided' in Uncle Cloive about what he REALLY did in the accident? That would be handing Cloive the golden blackmail ticket on a plate, but Georgie couldn't be that thick........could he?

I had forgotten that Kate was there as a 16 year old Iam64.

I’ve not heard the Friday cliff hanger yet. I’m enjoying the story line, it’s Shakespearean in the way the ripples involving two key families are spreading. I enjoyed Kate and Joy acting together in response to Clive

I agree Farzanah , heroics wouldn’t have prevented charges but may have meant community rather than prison sentence. He was driving withiut permission or insurance. He claims to have only drunk one bottle of cider - how big/. And was it only one/. We may find out when joy is asked how many bottles he bought, what size - and somebody counts the bottles in Alice’s car.
If they’re still there, if we ever find out where the car is etc

Farzanah Wed 28-Aug-24 17:34:13

Yes George is the fully paid up apprentice.

mae13 Wed 28-Aug-24 16:21:35

I can't prove it but I reckon Uncle Cloive is lining up Spineless Georgie as a future accomplice in some nefarious scheme.

I don't buy this yoga and wellness smokescreen that Cloive is conjuring up. Whatever Cloive is up to I bet Georgie will end up copping full responsibility. Oh dear......

NotSpaghetti Wed 28-Aug-24 15:23:18

And why hadn't David planted a Maize Maze yet??

Farzanah Wed 28-Aug-24 15:23:14

When the Archers started in 1951 I believe the motivation was to educate farmers, and for the MinofAg to pass on information which would help in post war food production,

I doubt the current milk and dairy free movement will gain many fans from the farming community!

NotSpaghetti Wed 28-Aug-24 15:22:19

she wants to open a meat & dairy free establishment because that's what she's really passionate about

That made me laugh Scribbles - first time I heard about it too!

Scribbles Wed 28-Aug-24 15:06:10

Is there a big bucket of scribbled plot ideas somewhere in Archers HQ? And when a scriptwriter gets desperate for a random new direction, he/she just puts in a hand and pulls out a fresh suggestion which will have no bearing at all on anything before or since?
We've known for a while that Fallon was considering opening up her own business at the car-charging place but today there's "a sea change going on" and she wants to open a meat & dairy free establishment because that's what she's really passionate about and where her heart lies, y'know?
Strange, if that's so, how it's not been mentioned before! I don't recall ever hearing about so much as a vegan .option on her current menu.
Or could this perhaps be just another example of the Beeb's current obsession with ramming environmental consciousness down our throats at every opportunity?
The Archers used to use drama to illustrate real rural life situations and resolutions so wouldn't it be good and very believable if, for example, Robert and Lynda investigated the possibility of replacing their aged CH system with a heat pump? Or Clarrie and Eddie were in despair about how they will pay their fuel bills this winter and seeking advice from Age UK?
That would make for more credible listening instead of a road-to-Damascus conversion of a café manager.

Pity Ifti isn't around again to help out with the coaching!

Elrel Wed 28-Aug-24 11:59:46

NotSpaghetti Thank you, yes, Ifti was the cricketing teacher and Elizabeth was the one who was attracted to him!

Elrel Wed 28-Aug-24 11:52:00

Or possibly Helen?

Wyllow3 - agree and believe if George had fessed up on the bridge, dripping wet after heroics, he is unlikely to have been imprisoned. It’s bound to all be out in the open before too much longer and a more critical view taken. Prison? Following in uncle Clive’s footsteps

If George had admitted driving he would have been breathalysed and may have been over the limit. Also driving without insurance and possibly dangerous driving? The heroics would have been a mitigation but would not have prevented any charges.

I agree that the accident as presented to the police was a straightforward drink driving offence with almost tragic consequences, so imagine Alice will go to jail if convicted.

merlotgran Wed 28-Aug-24 09:24:12

Hurry up and have another therapy session, Alice, before we all lose interest.

It’s going off at too many tangents at the moment. Going at a real life pace is all very well but most of real life just trudges along so my attention span is beginning to wane.

That's what I thought Iam. I don't think anyone was ever interested in the vehicle and contents - except Chris of course.

Wyllow3 Wed 28-Aug-24 00:52:20

George

Drove without insurance

Perverting the course of justice.

(quoting) "The most common offences charged as perverting the course of justice are; interfering with witnesses, concealing evidence and making false allegations of a crime

sentence for that " it is unusual for the court to impose a penalty other than a prison sentence."

Iam64 Tue 27-Aug-24 21:35:12

Sorry NotSpaghetti - would the car ever have been in police possession in the circs. Is it simply an insurance job
So many questions

Iam64 Tue 27-Aug-24 21:33:51

Ok my memory isn’t as it was fifty years ago but - George bought cider from Joy on the village shop. He went to a party, drank one bottle , so he says. Party boring, George carries the cider as he’s walking home. He takes it with him when he gets into Alice’s car.
By the time police ambulance arrive, George has heroically rescued Joy and Fallon. He has also dragged Alice into the driving seat of her car.
He tells everyone including the police that he was walking home from the party and just happened to be on the bridge when the accident happened.
The cider would still be in the car along with the empty vodka bottle
No SoC, no measuring skid marks or investigation. Alice bang to rights, drunk in the drivers seat of her car.
So - some Archer listeners are shouting at their radio - what about the cider
What about it Borsetshire bobbies might ask except as we know, they’ll have one officer covering a big area. Nothing to see here, move along

I confess I hope Alice gets a community order for being drunk in charge of a car and I hope some laws can be found to have been broken by George and he gets convicted of something
I’m off to ponder what offences

NotSpaghetti Tue 27-Aug-24 21:15:52

Ah, you’d need to find the relevant episodes on bbc iplayer.

No I mean all the fuss about the cider bottle.

Where is the car now?
Surely the police won't still have it?
Did they ever?

NotSpaghetti Tue 27-Aug-24 21:13:41

That was Ifti

He had a brief relationship with Elizabeth.

Farzanah - I seem to recall an attractive Indian teacher who played cricket, I think Alice had hopes of him, or was it Kate? Quite a few years ago.
