Strictly Come Dancing 2023

For "diatribe" read "claptrap". Diatribe is apparently only when it's negative claptrap, which it never is, even if it should be. The judges probably don't dare to say what they really think, for fear of recriminations or even legal consequences! These days, we all have to give praise, even if it isn't deserved. True praise has become devalued as a consequence.

I'm afraid that the whole thing is a big bore to me. It has gone on for too long and is so predictable. I really can't stand all the over exaggerated praise from the judges, the hyperbolic diatribe from each one just devalues every adjective in the English language. Also, Strictly means the end of summer and the return of dark nights and ghastly British weather. I wish I could hibernate from September to March!

I like do like the programme more after the first four or five episodes. Angela should not have been in that jumpsuit, so in flattering. No body excites me, the actress out of Sherlock is going to be good but I’m not a fan of hers I just don’t warm to her, interested in seeing how they all progress though. When the judges danced I thought someone was going to break something apart from Anton, he could still be a professional dancer as he’s good, the others stick to judging.

The first show is always a bit tedious, but once it gets going it’ll be fab

Otis, I could have written your post. I used to really look forward to Strictly, but after ten minutes on Saturday I just glazed over and switched off. I love the dancing but all the bits in between just make me cringe.

It's strictly so winter must be coming!

We have watched it every year but after the first three quarters of an hour we had both had enough and turned it off.
I might try again when the actual competition starts, with the option of fast forwarding through all the boring bits.

It’s the fakeness lovey dicey - everyone loves everyone ! That I find most annoying.
Also they say it’s live, buts some sequences are obviously not!
Must say I’m not so enthusiastic about it this year! It’s got tired - also, I know I will get shouted at, but maybe I’m old fashioned, but I really don’t like same sex partnerships or the weird dances - keep to traditional ballroom dances.

We do that too! We record the Saturday evening and watch the whole lot (as we know it happens as one lot) on the Sunday and speed through all the mutual ‘loving everyone’ bits and watch the actual dancing!

I'm neutral about Nick Knowles but at least I would know who he is

They keep asking Nick Knowles to do it, but he keeps refusing. Would anyone like to see him on there?

Oh no, not again. If the BBC want to make the programme, and the so called celebrities want to have a go, so be it, and the best of luck to them, but, I get sick and tired of it being pushed down my throat every half hour.

If it's not on TV its on the radio, or the papers, or the Internet.

Give it a rest for crying out loud

There was an article in the i newspaper at the weekend which was summarised as 'The torturous mini skits, the gurning antics at voting time, the pre-school -style praise. Whatever happened to the dignity of the ballroom?' and the main point was that the writer felt the show was being dumbed down. I watched all the way through last year for the first time and found that by recording it I could fast forward through the bits I wasn't interested in. I love to watch the actual dances and the live music is just brilliant. As for the rest, it depends how much time I have available to watch and also which dancers I am 'supporting'. I did vote a few times!

Good to see the moving tribute for the late Len Goodman.

A sure sign that Autumn is with us, now that Strictly has started.

I've always been a huge fan. I know a few of this years celebs, look forward to getting to "know" them all.

I enjoyed seeing Hamza dancing again.

I've never watched ‘Strictly’ 😱 but saw this in today’s Telegraph and thought you might like it.

“Strictly is back and that means Claudia and Tess, the upstairs-downstairs co-presenters, are ready to roll out another successful television double act. Is it because they’re nothing alike? One is tall and blonde and does the job with a touch of the hostessy Anthea Redfern; the other is tiny and dark and speaks like a latter-day thespian ­warming up before giving us her Henry V. They’re the nation’s big and little sister act. It just works.”

I agree, quite often someone I instinctively think I won’t like turns out to be lovely, it takes me out of my comfort zone.
Nice to get to know them over the weeks.

Sara Les was definitely in the 'dad dance' mode! He seemed quite unassuming though and I found myself liking him. I know few of them but that's the appeal.

I’m happy to see Strictly back. Something bright and cheerful to look at.
I agree about Les and know I will get cross when he is kept in over better dancers.
Not sure why Angela allowed herself to be put in that awful jumpsuit for the group dance.

I think Les Dennis probably won’t have the appeal that Tony had last year, I think he’ll be completely out of his depth, and will soon be gone, but what do I know?

To be honest I haven’t watched Strictly for a few years as the two female presenters are not to my liking, other than finding Hamza’s excellent winning dance last year, on YouTube what a great dancer he is.

However for some reason I videod it last night and started watching half an hour behind the beginning, that way I could fast forward between any bits I didn’t want to watch - A RESULT!

I really enjoyed the opening dances, however I did think that Craig looked slightly clunky, maybe because he had had a hip replacement.

I think the pairing of Annabel Croft with her partner (don’t know his name) but have seen him dance superbly, was an excellent idea as she is obviously grieving and he should be a sensitive support. I heard him on the radio and he had experienced real animosity through being gay, how sad.

I will now be joining you fans every week 😀💃🕺📺
