Only another month to go so I thought we'd better get the new thread up and running smile

I don't know many of this year's contestants so far but I guess we'll get to know them as the show continues. I see there are already comments that some of them have previous dance training.

Exciting. I like Angela Rippon and Angela Scanlon.

Think this is the third thread relating to Strictly.

Not that it matters, but when there is more than one, the replies get a bit hit and miss, so personally I like just one thread.

The title for this one seems the most appropriate.

At least those are two names I recognise!

Casdon Tue 08-Aug-23 11:24:35

The only other contestant I recognise so far is Krishnan Guru-Murthy, who is the Channel 4 news anchor, he’s been there for years. I’m beginning to feel out of touch, as none of the other names or faces meant anything to me.

That's why I started this thread, Calendargirl because I thought people might not find the thread under the other 2 titles.

Looking forward to seeing Adam Thomas. Bobby Brazier and Ellie Leach

mrshat Wed 09-Aug-23 11:41:49

HeavenLeigh I'm afraid I've no idea who they are! So far only the 2 Angelas and Krishnan G-M mean anything to me! confused

Joane123 Wed 09-Aug-23 11:56:52

Looking forward to the show.

I really like Angela Scanlon. I enjoy watching Strictly as a prelude to winter and Christmas. I do wish they would update the programme though as I find it formulaic now.

I love Claudia Winkleman's humour, she is so quick with her responses and very natural.

TanaMa Wed 09-Aug-23 12:08:06

These 'faces' usually go on this type of programme when they need to put their faces in the public eye and fill their pockets! I feel sorry for the professional dancers.

Babamaman Wed 09-Aug-23 12:21:29

I’m just so very sad that Amy Dowden with her already awful Crohn’s disease is now fighting cancer. It is so very sad. Please send her all my fondest love & prayers 😢😘❤️🙏🫶🏻

Hope they put the results show “live” as a follow up to the main event, though ai do enjoy reading a “spoiler result thread” on another site. Somehow it adds an extra something if I Already know the result. Strange but true.
Quite happy for people I haven’t seen before to take part. After all, they are the future of tv etc. if they are young.
Don’t feel sorry for the professionals as that’s what they’re paid to do. It gives them a few months income and it can lead to more work for them too. Do think they should be paid more and the judges less though.
All that comes out of Tess and Claudia’s mouths is scripted, and that’s so obvious.

SachaMac Wed 09-Aug-23 12:34:08

Looking forward to this, although once Strictly starts summers really over!!
I’ve been to see Strictly the Professionals at the theatre & they were brilliant. I agree the judges should be paid less and the dancers more.

Charleygirl5 Wed 09-Aug-23 13:26:17

Strictly is trying to entice BoJo and let's face it, he needs the money with so many mouths to feed but at least he would not last long.

We should know the results the same night as we used to do.

To be honest l'm getting less interested in the program each year!! Whilst l like the dancing the rest of the show is sooo monotomous. And as for the contestants l know only one and l wont be too interested in their 'journey' thru the show. I just watch the actual dancing and skip the rest, am l the only one who feels like this ?

Every year I say I only recognise a couple of the celebrities and I’m this same this year. But I still enjoy it and the unfamiliar ones grow on me. I’m looking forward to seeing how Angela Rippon fares out. She’s the oldest ever contestant at 78.

I wonder if they receive their full fee regardless of how early in the series they are voted off?

kittylester Wed 09-Aug-23 16:28:37

I love Freddie from Eastenders and Mark someone who played Donte in the original Waterloo Road.

Grannynannywanny Wed 09-Aug-23 16:35:20

I only recently realised he is the son of Jeff Brazier and the late Jade Goody. He looks very like his mum.

Good on you Sparklefizz. I purposely kept my title low profile so you could start the proper thread!!

I think their fee is based on how many rounds they get through, but I could be wrong.

gillgran Wed 09-Aug-23 17:30:17

Thanks, Sparklefizz, I've always been a great fan of Strictly.
Something I look forward to in the Autumn. I will get to "know" the contestants as the programme unfolds.
I just read that there is a paralympian, called Jody ??(swimmer/cyclist?) from "sort of" my area taking part, so I will follow him with interest.

henetha Wed 09-Aug-23 18:16:23

I think I recognise most of this year's contestants, but even if I don't we soon get to know them, don't we. I always look forward to Strictly as it's such a happy programme. It certainly brightens up the autumn months.

Thank goodness I've more to my life than worrying about a TV programme.
