Only another month to go so I thought we'd better get the new thread up and running smile

I don't know many of this year's contestants so far but I guess we'll get to know them as the show continues. I see there are already comments that some of them have previous dance training.

Also meant to add, although not dance related, that the release of celebs on Strictly to me, also indicates that BakeOff is due to start too!

mamaa Sun 13-Aug-23 21:46:39

Love Strictly, I watch it religiously every Saturday, and make my prediction as to final 4, from about week 4. Hubby doesn’t watch it apart from
in passing but makes his prediction as to the winner- watches the final and is invariably correct! How he does that I don’t know…grin

Theexwife Sun 13-Aug-23 21:18:09

I dont understand why people think that they would recognise more than a couple of the celebrities, Strictly is aimed at a wide audience so includes people from all forms of entertainment, TV,sport, radio, podcasts, influencers, authors etc also different age groups.

I am looking forward to Strickly, I do recognise a few names. My partner does not like it though, bad luck he will have to put up with it. I love it.

Love a bit of Strictly. But can’t believe we’re already at that time of year. 😳

Blinko Sun 13-Aug-23 18:00:53

WooHoo, I recognise six of this years contestants. No idea who the soap actors are, as usual.

They`ll know how you feel by now Kitty, so they`ll probably keep it to themselves if anyone`s mum comes on here!

We’ll have to be on Mum alert…and Nan alert for that matter. 😂

I worry that someone's Mum will invade GN. I know I should let it go but I'm still traumatised!!

Thank goodness I've more to my life than worrying about a TV programme.

What an odd comment to make.

I'm worried that Claudia has run out of pyjamas to wear, and I'm worried that Craig will split his trousers. I'm worried Motsi's hair has fallen out with all the styling, and I'm worried sick the winner will drop the glitter ball trophy.
Most of all, I'm worried that someone on GN will come along and spoil the Strictly thread with an inane comment.
My life is in tatters. 😆

Yes autumn approaches. We always record each episode and fast forward the yacketty yak.

TillyTrotter Sun 13-Aug-23 16:06:19

I like the look of the lineup for this year and once we get past the first show when everyone has to say how thrilled they are to be dancing with their Pro partner (“I hoped it would be you !“ they gush) I think it will be as entertaining as it has been in past series.

Nigel Harman has been a bit of a heartthrob in his 20’s, and Zara McDermott is a past Love Island beauty.

Looking forward to Les Dennis, Angela Ripon and Annabel Croft.

I hope Amy Dowden makes a complete and swift recovery too, a lovely lady.

I’m just so very sad that Amy Dowden with her already awful Crohn’s disease is now fighting cancer. It is so very sad. Please send her all my fondest love & prayers 😢😘❤️🙏🫶🏻

Yes, poor Amy! She’s always so kind and encouraging to her partners, I’ll miss her!

Sending all my Love and Prayers to Amy too flowers sunshine and smile

Lizzie44 - My DD1 said exactly the same to me yesterday when I commented on how few celebs I had heard of!

nipsmum - What an unkind thing to say. You have no idea what worries we all have. Strictly is something to look forward to and forget our worries for an hour or so.

I love Strictly but every year feel depressed when the names are released because it makes me realise that summer is coming to an end. Once Strictly starts, the weeks fly by and the dreaded Christmas comes hurtling towards us. I hardly recognise any of the celeb names this year, but according to DD I say that every year. I'll be intrigued to see Krishnan Guru-Murthy on the dance floor (I like him on C4 News and admit to a bit of a crush on him).

Nanaeloc Sun 13-Aug-23 14:41:37

I love Strictly and look forward to it very much every year, but the camera operators (or directors) drive me mad - they hardly ever show the dancers footwork and seem to concentrate on their faces and upper body! I would love to see what the judges see!

Minnyknit Sun 13-Aug-23 12:25:40

Like a lot of people posting here I’ve only heard of one or two of them. I love Strictly with a passion but does anyone else find it raucous? I live in a flat so am trying not to annoy other people around me so I’m continually adjusting the volume.

LuckyFour Sun 13-Aug-23 11:36:32

How do you know how much anyone on Strictly is paid. Is it public knowledge?

But not enough that it stops you from commenting on a thread that you have no interest in.

GrannyGravy13 Sun 13-Aug-23 11:25:51

I recognise a few, but always struggle with the soap stars as I don’t watch any of them.

Strictly signals the beginning of autumn/winter and the end of summer for me.

henetha Sun 13-Aug-23 11:24:36

To nipsmum..

henetha Sun 13-Aug-23 11:24:07

Plenty of things to worry about, but friendly chatting is still allowed.

Grannynannywanny Sun 13-Aug-23 11:21:11

I don’t think any of us are worrying about it nipsmum. We’re just chatting . Sometimes that in itself is a pleasant distraction from our real life worries.
