I watched a bit of it, and I did turn the same shade at those gorgeous emerald earrings that the American lady was being shown. I'm not one for jewellery, but oh my! those were gorgeous!

But gosh - it's another world, isn't it!

I did smile at the Octopus man, I think it was, when asked if he'd like a Royal warrant, and he cheekily said "we'd prefer to have clients who pay their bills".

We walked around there and bought some King's Ginger from Berry Bros & Rudd. The shop is at it was in Georgian times - a fabulous experience.

Ah yes. Not like it was in the olden days though! There's a story about a well-known Duke wandering along Jermyn Street on the way to his club. He always wore an old raincoat and looked a bit down at heel so occasionally passers-by gave him a few pence which he always gratefully accepted, not wishing to give offence.

I fancied buying myself a decent watch so went on the Mallory’s website and got a shock to see one retailing at £97,000! How the other half live eh? It’s obscene given people living in mold ridden accommodation.

The rich are getting richer and the poor poorer, its worse than in Victorian times.

It disgusts me how the media expect us to fawn over and be envious of these blood suckers.

I worked in St James`s in the sixties. I dont envy these people. Those who spend their money on geegaws and stuff employ artisans. Its only stuff and you can get stuff on ebay and Amazon that does not cost a fortune in insurance. What they do not do is buy more and more property and put people on the street when they cannot pay the rent. One girl I worked with, everso posh, got a phone call and a message to say she must pick up a package from the local pharmacy and take it to her mum. Very weird. However her mum was a lady in waiting to the Queen. My mum said "Which Queen?" and was angry with me when I did not know.

A good few years ago I remember going to Harrods food Hall and buying quater of ham! Just to get the bag - what a sado!

Overthemoon, I did something similar in Harrods many years ago. I bought a large diameter paper lampshade (the flat packed ones, and reasonably priced) and got an enormous plastic carrier bag to put it in. It had a gold draw string type closing mechanism.

The carrier bag outlived the lampshade!! I used it to carry my dirty laundry to the launderette when I was a student, and then it went into my understairs cupboard to hold all my other spare carrier bags. I had it for years!!

We've had cheese from Paxton and Whitfield (courtesy if in line ordering and deliveries). Does the make us posh and rich, lol? Or just lovers of good and different cheeses?

I worked in Harrods as a student. It was great fun though I never got my head round the paper dockets that you had to fill in if someone wanted their purchase delivered.

My DIL worked for many years at the Royal Academy, which is more or less opposite Fortnum and Mason in Piccadilly. I had some very posh foodie presents in those years!

I worked as a temp in Harrods too and saw quite a few famous faces, in the handkerchief department. Whenever anyone wanted to buy a really expensive hanky the old dear who was a permanent employee elbowed me out of the way and took the sale - we were on commission.....!
