Just watching and who should I see but Holly Willoughby. Holly certainly gets around !!

Georgesgran Sun 27-Aug-23 21:59:43

Is that what’s known as a cameo role? Looked nice, said a sentence. All a bit pointless, but nice work if you can get it!

Shelflife Sun 27-Aug-23 22:09:22

Not sure what a cameo role is. Was pointless, but I guess she needs the work 😕

Callistemon21 Sun 27-Aug-23 22:53:14

It was on and when it ended we both agreed it was a load of unrealistic drivel.
What a waste of actors, scenery and opportunities all because of a ridiculous script!

It used to be realistic but with a quirky edge but if it continues in that vein we won't be watching any more.

And where is Betty?

Shelflife Sun 27-Aug-23 23:43:41

I was very tempted to turn it off? Very disappointing indeed - I used to really enjoy it.

Deedaa Sun 27-Aug-23 23:52:36

Oh dear, I enjoyed it. I even liked Holly in it with all the "Is it her?" looks from the cast. I was mainly worried about Paddy. Glad he was back to normal at the end after his "therapy"

I continue to watch the series but don't know why as I find the 'new' DCI Barnaby most unappealing and such wooden acting. My heart belongs to John Nettles. 💕

Gingster Mon 28-Aug-23 06:47:28

I’ve only ever watched it a couple of times and I can’t believe it’s still on.
What a load of unbelievable rubbish!

Ladyleftfieldlover Mon 28-Aug-23 07:01:56

I quite like the new Barnaby! The old version could have doubled as a wardrobe.

Calendargirl Mon 28-Aug-23 07:13:32

I was another who watched it, but wonder why. Nothing else on much, that’s why.

Just cannot take to the ‘new’ Barnaby, but also don’t care for any of them- his sidekick, the pathologist, even his wife really.

Much preferred the old Barnaby, Joyce, George the pathologist, Jones….,

The scripts are far fetched, unbelievable rubbish though.

Kandinsky Mon 28-Aug-23 07:13:51

Used to like it when John Nettles was Barnaby, just never warmed to the ‘new’ Barnaby, although he’s been doing it now for about 10 years grin
Some episodes are completely ridiculous, but every now & again you get a half decent one.
It’s nowhere near as bad as Rosemary &’Thyme.

Yes, all the old cast were much better.
I liked the Cully too.

ParlorGames Mon 28-Aug-23 07:20:22

What a complete waste of two hours! The plot was boring, the acting dreadful, the storyline predictable.........although the dog did surpass everyone else in the cast!

Time for Barnaby to be put into permanent retirement I think.

Grandma70s Mon 28-Aug-23 07:30:14

I watched for a few minutes, then switched it off. I don’t know anything about Holly W., so she wasn’t a draw. I quite like Barnaby.

Sara1954 Mon 28-Aug-23 08:19:13

I recorded it, but don’t know if I’ll bother to watch it now!
I much prefer the new Barnaby, and as a family, we couldn’t stand the character of Cully, so glad she’s gone.

grannysyb Mon 28-Aug-23 09:21:02

We found it very slow.

Charleygirl5 Mon 28-Aug-23 10:04:32

I do not like to watch the occult in any shape or form and last night's was dire. I also preferred the dog and was pleased he was back to normal at the end.

Can nobody write a decent script? I will be saving electricity soon because my TV will get rare outings. I do not switch it on for background noise.

Georgesgran Mon 28-Aug-23 10:05:26

I quite liked the John Nettles episodes, but couldn’t fathom Cully - just a boring character brought in now and again, but never really involved. It also bugged me how Joyce was in absolutely everything - the local choir, historical society, flower club, art club, doing the Church flowers or something - even helping in a care home in one episode! She seemed to be on first name terms from the local gentry to the bus driver.
At least the current Mrs Barnaby has a vocation and as a newbie, isn’t familiar with all the local characters. And ‘yes’ I do know it’s just fiction - but getting beyond far fetched now.

I blinked and missed her 😁

As soon as I seeMidsummer Murders I find something else.

Calendargirl Mon 28-Aug-23 10:09:40

Oh, I liked Joyce Georgesgran.

I thought she had a lovely life- it was all about indulging her hobbies, and not being a very good cook. No need to have a job obviously.

I envied her lifestyle.

It all seemed a bit reworked from previous ideas to me - though it was a familiar undemanding watch after the excitement of the athletics.
I like this Mrs Barnaby better than the omnipresent Joyce.

sodapop Mon 28-Aug-23 12:39:12

Absolutely no idea why Willoughby was in that episode, she just stood around looking like a drip..
I like the new Barnaby and his family better than the previous ones, more relatable I think. I thought the whole idea of the series was that it was a bit silly and tongue in cheek.

Franbern Mon 28-Aug-23 18:05:17

i so much prefer the 'new' Barbaby and his wife. Found Nettles quite boring as time went on, and as for his wife!!! Found her totally annoying. and the so-called actor daugher. Ug!!!

I record programmes like these, get rid of adverts. and find it all very easy watching and obviously the stories are ridiculous! part of their appeal.

Ailidh Mon 28-Aug-23 18:15:09

I don't watch much any more. I did like early NewBarnaby: the episode where they'd just moved in and lots of female neighbours turned up with various baked goods amused me. And I love "Death by Persuasion", very clever.
