I love this programme particularly as it showcases off the beaten track places that aren't always that mainstream. This one which starts in Marrakech, was understandably postponed because of the very recent devastating earthquake. The first episode we are introduced to 3 fairly well known faces with their respective parents and a brother and sister Billy and Bonnie Monger, what a brave young man he is having had both legs amputated recently due to a crash during his brief race driving career. Last night they travelled through Morocco highlighting the amazing cities of Marrakech and Fez before embarking on a ferry to Europe with more buses and taxis through Spain to their first port of call in Portugal. The final leg of the journey will take them up to Norway inside the Arctic circle.

Billy is such a brave young man and I hope his courage and resilience will see him through to the winning post with his lovely supportive sister.

Then there’s Alex the weatherman . A grown man cowering at the sight of a plate of seafood and tasted a little morsel after being coaxed by daddy. Then immediately made a dramatic dash to the toilet saying he was going to be sick 🙄

I watched this last night, it was OK not sure if I will continue to watch. I didn’t take to Mel she came across as a bit spoilt, Alex is a bit weak. I thought Billy and his sister amazing to be doing this, what a courageous young man.
Harry Judds mum annoyed me talking about losing him at 17 when he joined McFly, he had previously been at boarding school for 6 years.

She annoyed me too and that was before I knew he'd been at boarding school.

However, I'm liking her better now she has stopped whingeing!

I am loving this programme .... epecially Harry and his mum. I also have a lot of time for the young man who had the racing car accident and his sister.

Not so keen on the weatherman. As someone has already said he's definitely a bit wet. His dad's ok.

Why do so many programmes have to go for “celebrity” versions? What was wrong with the “ordinary Brits” they had in previous series?

Having said that, I haven’t watched any of this series so shouldn’t judge it, I don’t recognise the names of those of the “celebrities” in it that I’ve read about, and I didn’t think any of the previous contestants could be described as “ordinary Brits”! grin

Celebrity just means people who come into your home via the media.
Why Celebrity versions? Because we think we 'know' them (because we see them all practised and polished doing their job) and want to see if they're really like that (ie when they're not practised and polished).
That's why Strictly is so popular.

I totally agree that Billy's leg must be agony for him. He, and his sister, are showing great strength of character and deserve to do well.
Weatherman Alex on the other hand ... oh dear! So he got a fish bone stuck in his throat many years ago and has been unable to face seafood since. Get a grip dear, get a grip.

Just watched the 3rd episode and feeling irritated that it's so obviously set up. Mel and Helene are searching for H's friend's house - she doesn't know the address apparently nor the phone number. She finally recognises it, stands in the street calling her friend's name, and her friend just happens to be at home and welcomes them in to stay the night - all apparently unplanned and unexpected.

But the scenery is fantastic so I'm not moaning about that !

BlueBelle Thu 05-Oct-23 17:26:54

That was really awful and so contrived wasn’t it Sparklefizz
Yes I m still watching I don’t think it’s the best but it’s something to watch but I can’t help but feel it’s not all genuine

Sparklefizz Thu 05-Oct-23 18:24:09

Absolutely BlueBelle. It felt like a real con, as if we viewers are idiots.

I already feel that the "jobs" they take on are "non-jobs", but anyway...... I shall carry on watching, like you, because it's something lighthearted to watch and I do enjoy the scenery.

Yes, what a coincidence! 😁

If anyone celebrities called to see us earlier today - sorry we were out!!

Working for bed and board? 😲 Surely that's against EU rules!
I suppose if it's only for 15 minutes for the duration of the filming that's ok.

It's daft but easy viewing.

any not anyone

The scenery is just stunning..
I really like the nurse, she is showing her resilience.. and also the delightful brother and sister

Sparklefizz Thu 19-Oct-23 17:43:16

Wonderful scenery - Budapest looks fantastic, and so does Prague.

I wonder how Bonnie has kept her false nails so perfect when she has done gardening jobs?? shock It's been 3 weeks now.

I hope either Harry/his Mum win or Billy/Bonnie.

Grammaretto Thu 19-Oct-23 18:20:05

I have been watching since DD recommended it.
Scenery is lovely and the characters are funny but Harry isn't very thoughtful to his mother.

I think they might have had a couple of nights R&R at the luxury hotels at each stop so she might have had her nails redone then, perhaps?

Well, not the ending I expected!
Spectacular scenery has made me want to go to North of Scandinavia even more now. We know the Southern regions fairly well but Lapland looks amazing.

Sparklefizz Thu 26-Oct-23 15:54:38

Not the ending I wanted.
Great shame about Billy and Bonnie.

pascal30 Thu 26-Oct-23 16:00:36

Great shame I agree. I was hoping that they would win.. But my favourite person was the nurse.. she was really plucky and wonderfully down to earth

Callistemon21 Thu 26-Oct-23 16:37:32

I didn't mind who won and was very happy to see how joyful Noel was when they arrived at the final destination to find they were first.
He is such a lovely man.

Sparklefizz Thu 26-Oct-23 16:38:39

Yes. Noel was lovely. Alex not so much

Callistemon21 Thu 26-Oct-23 16:41:24

He was enthusiastic and always kind, but didn't get stuck into the jobs like his Dad!!

BlueBelle Thu 26-Oct-23 16:41:48

I like Alex and his dad I think they both came across lovely
Not so keen on Mel and her mum
Think Harry pushed his mum, but she did well

Joseann Thu 26-Oct-23 16:51:22

Harry and his mum were funny, "Run mum, green man," when crossing the road, like she was the child!
The scenery was stunning. I'd love to see the reindeer.

Auntieflo Thu 26-Oct-23 17:14:52

We were sad that Billy and Bonnie had to pull out.
At first I wasn't keen on Alex, but they gradually grew on us.
Noel appeared genuinely sad about Billy and Bonnie not being able to finish.

TerriBull Thu 26-Oct-23 18:55:12

They all seemed pretty OK to me. Very sorry Bill and Bon had to drop out, he was so gutsy, couldn't help wanting him to win. So many wonderful places visited, and a spectacular showcasing of Norway wow! Pretty damn cold though!
