Watched this 6 part miniseries over the weekend- Tory minister involved in scandal, who’d believe that? 😉
There’s various twists along the way, nothing too surprising and it’s not based on reality, apparently…however, if you’ve watched it did you see any parallels with real life? I think I may have…

Thanks for the tip off, I ended up binge watching it last night. Brilliant story line and acting.

...Oh, and living in Oxford through the 80's/90's I remember well enough reading in local newspapers about the nasty little escapades of the Bullingdon Club - very much like the Libertines portrayed in the series.

I recommend the book, which is slightly different from the TV show, although I enjoyed that too. It is definitely pointing at the Bullingdon Club and their 'mischievous ways'.

I agree Doodledog - a good book. Speaking to my 40+ daughter I was astonished to learn that she believed the Bullingham Club to be fiction.

For Mamaa and others, yes, politicos doing naughty things, who'd have thought?! BUT - please don't think this just affects Tories, Mandelson is presently back in the Labour hierarchy, was suspended so many times by his own party for assorted corruptions we lost count. And now he's a Lord. And check how well that Blair chap did over the years, anyone recall the Bristol property saga?

ALL parties have people with failings - lots of evidence over many years, so little point in getting too partisan over any of them? Any LibDem fans? I give you Cyril Smith & Jeremy Thorpe, plus that nice little David Steel (a Baron, KBE, Knight of the Thistle, umpteen Uni Doctorates, etc) who it turned out did nothing about Cyril Smith and his, er, 'little foibles' as it would have been a shame to bring all that publicity on them sooner than it actually arrived.

I don't think anyone has said otherwise, have they? Does political sniping have to come into every thread? This book was referring to clubs such as the Bullingdon Club and the amorality/entitlement of the sort of people who join them, not scoring party political points. It is also about male/female dynamics in those circles, both the men who feel entitled to do as they please and the women whose status is so wrapped up in that of their husbands that they will protect them no matter what.
