A thousand posts! How time flies grin

Post your moans, praise and observations about life on the cobbles on this shiny new thread.

Well, I thought that bathroom scene was really not suitable for 8pm. Paul making jokes about “his bits” being on display”, Billy saying Todd would welcome a peek, the builder (whose name I can’t remember) saying “I’m getting stiff” when all four were caught clinging on to each other and then Summer’s face!!

Reminded me of when the ghastly Michael Barrymore used to say similar stuff to small kids on TV when it could be taken either way. Cheap laughs.

I just thought it was an amusingly light hearted handling of an absolutely tragic situation. I think that only an adult would find double entendres in what was said.

Beechnut Sat 11-Nov-23 09:42:40

That was my take on it too Aveline. I also thought what a big bathroom they had. I can’t imagine 4 or 5 people in my bathroom altogether 🤣

I agree. It was classic British 'seaside postcard' humour that would be over the heads of any children watching.

First time I've laughed out loud during Corrie for quite some time. The bathroom scene was light relief after the diagnosis in the hospital. It was spoiled (IMO) by all the soppy kissing at the end, though.

sodapop Sat 11-Nov-23 17:13:01

I agree Aveline it's those situations which bring home the sadness of this terrible disease.

NotTooOld Sat 11-Nov-23 18:28:30

It was quite ridiculous how so many Corrie residents were able to take over the sewing machines. And, as others have said, where is the quality control?

Is Peter really going to make his exit to help his friend with some sort of boat business in sunny climes? It begins to look like Carla is going with him, too. As is usual on Corrie, they'll only need an hour or two to to tie up the business, sell the flat and pack their suitcases.

What's going to happen to Ryan? I must have missed the episode where Crystal comes back although I never do. Can anyone enlighten me as to how and why she is back in Weatherfield, please?

Aveline Sat 11-Nov-23 18:37:21

She just turned up.

I really don't think someone living in constant pain, with partner having to help you use the toilet ( it was mentioned during the PIP assessment ) would be that bothered about their sex life........

sodapop Mon 13-Nov-23 09:05:41

Do you not think he would take the chance of loving his partner while it was still possible - almost. It wasn't just about sex Clawdy that's how I saw it anyway.

Doodledog Mon 13-Nov-23 11:37:21

I agree, sodapop. I'm not sure that MND is physically painful, (although I may well be wrong). I'm sure Paul would have more on his mind a lot of the time, but I can understand his wanting to feel intimacy with the man he loves, and to feel desired as he used to be, too. It's cruel for that to be taken away as well as everything else.

Aveline Mon 13-Nov-23 11:50:55

I expect the writers have consulted MND organisations to make sure what they portray is reasonably accurate. Paul and Billy's relationship seems to be very close and loving.
MND is such an awful, awful illness.

Calendargirl Mon 13-Nov-23 20:52:49

Billy’s back made a miraculous recovery.

Could hardly move in the morning, then skipping about like a two year old later on.

CoolCoco Mon 13-Nov-23 20:55:20

Haven’t we heard enough of Amy’s trauma? Talk about rehashing an old story.

JaneJudge Mon 13-Nov-23 20:56:46

MND is awful. We lost someone very close to it and it was particularly cruel and something we will never forget

I'm sure Billy had forgotten his back pain in favour of his sex life wink

lemsip Mon 13-Nov-23 21:45:50

I keep watching hoping it ill improve but, it's such rubbish and rehashing the amy rape issue is scraping the bottom and shows they don't know what to do with the actress.

My back went into spasm about a year ago. i was in agony like Billy but mine lasted several weeks. I couldn’t even lower myself to sit on the loo and had to have OH lead me from the bed, along landing to loo and lower me while I was yelping!

NotTooOld Mon 13-Nov-23 22:50:14

Oh perlease don't let's have Amy's 'rape' rehashed. Haven't we seen enough of that? Can't the writers think of something else?

maddyone Mon 13-Nov-23 23:58:20

I agree, Amy’s rape has been done to death (not minimising anyone’s real life experience of rape.)

Doodledog Tue 14-Nov-23 06:05:44

It’s not something she would just forget though, or just get over, particularly when someone mentions it directly. Have I missed something? Why were they in the community centre in the first place for the girl to come and talk about it ?

I think the reason that stories can seem overdone is that they limit the cast members to a few at any given time, so whilst they complete the stories faster than they used to (Stephen notwithstanding!) current stories are featured in every episode for a while, and they seem more intense as a result. I wish they would go back to the old way of having all of them in most episodes - it gave them much more scope for light relief when there were several stories overlapping.

CoolCoco Tue 14-Nov-23 06:21:43

Is the prison set going to get another outing?

Doodledog Tue 14-Nov-23 06:43:46

I really hope that Bernie can say goodbye to Paul (her little Apollo grin). Maybe the judge will take pity on them and give her community service? That’s a good way to bring in new characters and stories, too.

Calendargirl Tue 14-Nov-23 06:52:04

Bernie has hardly lived a virtuous life. Dread to think how much petty thieving, shoplifting, handling previous stolen goods has gone on in her life. She’s fortunate if she has escaped incarceration before now, but think she has mentioned how she has previously ‘done time’.

And I reiterate that she and Dev are sooo unsuited. Does anyone really think that Dev would be interested in her with her background?

What will they say at the golf club when they hear she is in prison? shock

(And does Gemma ever shut her mouth? It is always hanging open).

Doodledog Tue 14-Nov-23 07:07:10

I wouldn’t want to live next door to them, but on a human level I think it would be harsh if she can’t be around when her son dies.

I think I saw a documentary about people in parts of the US being able to defer prison sentences to put their affairs in order if they aren’t an immediate danger to the community. I don’t know if that can happen here (I doubt it), but I t makes far more sense than the story in ‘Time’ where a mother is ‘sent down’ immediately and ends up losing everything. If she could have sorted out her rent, and found someone to look after her children she would have been far less likely to reoffend.

But life in Soapland is based on actors’ availability and whether other storylines need characters to be available, not on what would be sensible grin.

BlueBelle Tue 14-Nov-23 07:22:43

Dev and Bernie are the most unbelievable couple ever, ever, ever They really are an unattractive family Gemma is pretty awful even when she shows her human side
Billy looks more like a Smurf ever time I see him
Afraid I m another fed up with Amy’s troubles I like her and she’s a good actress but it’s turning into another Stephen dragging on and on
