A thousand posts! How time flies grin

Post your moans, praise and observations about life on the cobbles on this shiny new thread.

Don’t agree about the Baileys Kadinsky I think Deedee is excellent and Ronnie is rather nice on the eye

Coronation street really has lost its way.
If it wasn’t for Maureen Lipman I’d stop watching.

Too many gay sex scenes.
Too much time spent on child bullying stories.
Too much time spent on gangster stories.
Too many bad actors ( Gemma, the entire Bailey family ) apart from the mum who seems to have left anyway.

It needs a complete overhaul or it’s in danger of being axed.
Viewing figures for all soaps seem to go down every year - and coronation street is coming off the worst.

I wondered where it had suddenly disappeared to

vegansrock Sat 20-Jan-24 16:22:04

Where’s Linda’s huge fridge gone? Is it up in the quads bedroom?

Doodledog Sat 20-Jan-24 13:55:40

I agree that Paul/Apollo (!) will be a loss to the cast. I hope the actor goes on to get lots of other roles.

BlueBelle Sat 20-Jan-24 13:41:29

I ll be happy to wave Beth and Simon off not so Paul I d rather see Father Smurf go
I know he’s only little but Sarah’s little Harry is awful at acting He obviously went to the same acting school as Yazmin Dev and Mr Gambler

Yes, I think that's possible. The other alternatives are that Gary will get involved with similar results, or that Liam self-harms to get out of school, which could have awful consequences.

I don't know how a story like this can end well really, unless the Head Teacher catches Mason in the act and he gets expelled. The actor playing Mason is a good looking boy, so the chances are that he'll be in it for the long haul, though. I know soaps have a good record for exploring difficult issues, but where children are concerned it has to be handled so carefully, and in this case it is really hard to know how they can do that without suggesting that Liam takes action that might not be wise if copied, or that he somehow brings things upon himself. Leaving the resolution to chance won't give much hope to young viewers either.

Clawdy

The bullying story is so upsetting, really hope Mason gets his come uppance.

I’m wondering if he won’t fair well with his next meeting with Liam and Liam will end up in a lot of trouble😟

The woman married to Kirk is Beth. I won't miss her - she is similar in character to Gemma and Bernie, and they all verge on caricature. Simon hasn't had a decent storyline for ages. i never know if that happens because the actors are unpopular/not very good, or if they become so because they don't get the storylines. Either way, he won't be much of a miss either.

Ken and Sally have been in it since the dawn of time, so I'd be surprised if they left for any reason other than retirement. They'd both struggle to get cast in other things, and they are part of the fabric of the programme anyway.

It's interesting that there is a survey, Happygirl. They should read this thread - we'd all put them right grin.

I read that 3 are being axed this year. We know about Paul, another is a female who works at the factory and is married to the gormless chap who works there also. I forget their names. Simon is also going, his choice.

Ken and somebody else, a female, have signed for another year. I think it may be Sally.

Happygirl79 Fri 19-Jan-24 21:54:54

I am a member of YouGov and interestingly yesterday's survey asked about many characters on Coronation street. Did I want to see more or less of them and why? I have a feeling that there has been a huge drop in viewers and some characters will be axed . Thank goodness.

they're ear pods I think for i phones music

I wish someone would cotton on to what is happening with Liam. That storyline is so upsetting. Are all of the cobbles children going through trauma of some sort? It would be good to have some of them living carefree childhoods.

Serendipity22

Was that an in the ear hearing aid in Claire Sweenys ear ?

I thought so.

Agreed about Dr Gaddas’ surgery being unattended. Now that Aggie is away the hospital will be falling apart too. Are Gemma and Chesney going to split up? I hope not.

Calendargirl Thu 18-Jan-24 07:04:30

It was fortunate that Doctor Gaddas was in the right place to overhear Gemma’s conversation about Joseph, and was then able to nip to the hospital to chat to the consultant and give her diagnosis, patient unseen.

No idea who the patients at her practice were being attended to by, as she is a one-woman band.

That woman could sort out the problems of the NHS, single-handed.

I wouldn't fancy Max's chances with the dreadlocks of the other girlfriend! I think he asked her first and she said no. Sensible girl.

Aveline Tue 16-Jan-24 12:02:11

But Lauren's hair looked exactly the same length!

Doodledog Tue 16-Jan-24 10:40:50

I don’t think he was doing it officially- just cutting whatsername’s hair as a favour. Now that he’s impressed David he will be on track for a glittering career though wink

Calendargirl Tue 16-Jan-24 06:56:36

Adam must be skating on thin ice. Surely if his dealings with Harvey come out, he will be struck off?

His hair still has a life of its own.

NotTooOld Mon 15-Jan-24 22:49:10

But this is Soapland, Bluebelle! Max'll be qualified in no time, David will retire and Max will be running Audrey's all on his own, or perhaps with both his girlfriends as assistants.

Charleygirl5 Mon 15-Jan-24 22:48:54

I thought having just started he would be washing heads of hair and clearing up. He would not be allowed to have a pair of scissors in his hand in a proper salon.

BlueBelle Mon 15-Jan-24 22:43:31

He’s not even at college is he if he is I didn’t know he’d even applied… must have missed that
I would imagine you d have to be at least 2 nd year of college before you cut anyone’s hair
He’s literally only just started the job 🤣🤣

NotTooOld Mon 15-Jan-24 22:38:03

Wouldn't Max need to practice on a real head of hair? I think I've seen salons advertising for models for their apprentices.
