Am surprised the caff is £80 down. Even more surprised they actually make that in a day, as many customers seem to get a free coffee or butty, mainly Bernie and Shona’s families.

Clawdy Sat 02-Dec-23 18:06:02

And as if they wouldn't have checked the till carefully, before accusing someone.

vegansrock Tue 05-Dec-23 14:23:26

So Bernie is banged up for 6 weeks and they presumably have visiting times so it’s not as if she’ll never see the family again. Fed up with the Asha-Isla-Goth girl triangle . Yawn.

Clawdy Tue 05-Dec-23 20:42:18

Yes, that triangle is incredibly boring, I couldn't care less who ends up with who!

Doodledog Wed 06-Dec-23 06:25:53

I suppose they are appealing to younger viewers with they teenage stories. I don’t know what the viewer demographic is these days, but soaps usually have a few stories going that are aimed at keeping different groups interested. I like Asha and Nina, but they aren’t well matched, and got together just because they were neighbours, and now Asha is spreading her wings. I agree that the story is a bit tedious but it’s probably true to life.

Calendargirl Wed 06-Dec-23 07:26:04

I don’t imagine many young viewers watch Corrie. Am sure my 18 year old and 16 year old GC would never look at it.

I think they need to focus their attention on story lines that appeal to us oldies, as we must be their main 'loyal' following

Doodledog Wed 06-Dec-23 07:47:34

Then it will die when we do grin. As it's been going for over 60 years, they must have managed to keep getting new audiences, even though the core audience is older women from lower socioeconomic groups.

I've had a quick Google, and this is what Digital Spy says:

Generally, younger people don't watch TV, but I think a combination of soap awards and the celebrity status of the actors, as well as the more 'modern' storylines ensure that at least some younger people continue to watch it in their own right (as opposed to it being on when their parents are watching).

I started watching in my 30s, when I had babies and didn't go out much. I have a bit of an addictive personality and get hooked on things easily, so have stuck with it. My mum didn't watch it when I was growing up, although she does now, and my daughter watched with me as a child but no longer watches it (she's 30). I don't know if we are a representative sample.

Interesting Doodledog

Still can’t stand the dreadful Cassie.

Yes, the lesbian triangle is very boring.

Calendargirl Wed 06-Dec-23 20:58:35

Ryan’s scar looks much better.

Sometimes it’s hard to spot it.

Primrose53 Wed 06-Dec-23 20:58:38

That’s the most interest Daisy has ever shown in Bertie!

LovesBach Wed 06-Dec-23 22:27:37

Why hasn't Simon been involved in a romance? Every young (ish) street resident has been involved with other residents, but not Simon. I can't remember him having any kind of romance, and he must be twenty at least.

Calendargirl Thu 07-Dec-23 07:08:52

Why hasn’t Simon been involved in a romance?

Probably because he looks a mardy little so-and-so, never seems to do anything much, just stomps around scowling all the time.

😠

BlueBelle Thu 07-Dec-23 07:35:29

Simon is a very strange edition he looks like no one he doesn’t seem to have grown or changed in the last 5 or more years he seems to have no character neither a man nor a child
How old is he supposed to be in Corrie ?
Yes Ryan’s scar has suddenly paled over night

BlueBelle Thu 07-Dec-23 07:40:27

Well I ve answered my own question and googled it he’s 18 in real life and 17 in Corrie and he’s played the part 15 years !!!

CoolCoco Thu 07-Dec-23 07:46:34

I guess the Bernie actress wants to be in panto for 6 weeks.

Clawdy Thu 07-Dec-23 08:13:06

No, the actor who plays Simon is 22, and also has a five year old daughter!

Enid101 Thu 07-Dec-23 08:22:46

Corrie is like most tv programmes. When it’s good, it’s really good. Maureen Lipman pelting mint imperials at the dog guy yesterday was hilarious.

I agree about Ryans scar. Last night it could have passed as stubble I thought.

Yes, Simon's a strange one. He was a cute child, but he hasn't grown into his looks, has he? I thought he was older than 17 (and the actor older than 18) - I'd have put him at nearer 30, although I know he can't be.

I wondered about Ryan's scar, which is almost a character in its own right. I think it was the lighting in the last episode. He rigged up ring lights and so on for his video. They must have been good ones, but I suppose as he's doing it professionally he might have invested in decent lighting, rather than the £5.99 ones from Amazon that people bought in lockdown when we were all doing family quizzes over Zoom. Mine assured me on the box that it would make me look glamorous, but in fact I still looked raddled, only with a squint and reflected circles on my glasses. 😩🤓

Clawdy Thu 07-Dec-23 08:58:26

As I said earlier, he's 22 in real life, with a five year old daughter!

Clawdy Thu 07-Dec-23 09:01:49

And the Simon character is 20.

Wasn’t his Mum an ex girlfriend of Peter, called Lucy I think. She was very pretty with blonde hair. She already had baby Simon by someone else then she died and he went to Peter.

I may be completely wrong because I am now wondering what happened to his real Dad. 🤔

Clawdy Thu 07-Dec-23 09:16:20

His real dad is Peter Barlow.

Primrose53 Thu 07-Dec-23 09:28:21

Clawdy

His real dad is Peter Barlow.

Yes you’re correct. Just been reading up. I was right about the Lucy part. Peter fell for her while he was married to Shelley. They had a bigamous marriage too which I had forgotten about.

I remember a few years ago questions were asked when it was obvious that the actor who played Simon was mixed race. How could a blonde white girl and white Peter produce a mixed race child? Some crazy casting there.
