We're ready for Blackpool !

MerylStreep Mon 13-Nov-23 08:48:07

more grounded couple
Perhaps she meant the contestant who had two feet on the floor for most of the dance 😂

Joseann Mon 13-Nov-23 08:53:18

In dance grounded is all to do with your balance, it's not really to do with your feet. You can't afford to be wobbly in your core if you want to stay upright.

Joseann Mon 13-Nov-23 08:54:59

That's why AR looks like she is straining with her neck because her core muscles aren't strong enough to keep her stable.

Does anyone know whether the judges are actually told of the public vote results before they judge the dance off?

That would actually be more useful-or even better, if they didn’t have a dance off but just announced the results, when the result is what we see as a foregone conclusion.

Those who aren’t happy with the result would still say the results were fixed.

Incidentally, everyone I chatted with once the result had been leaked, thought the right decision was made.

NotSpaghetti Mon 13-Nov-23 09:05:46

Krishnan is not a "natural" but he really was improving week by week - and he was more flexible and danced better in the dance-off than in the show itself.
I think the ending of his dance was the worst bit to be honest ! He had more "standing" in the last few seconds I noticed than he did at any other point. Had it ended with moves such as he was doing early on I think it would have left a better overall impression.

Angela R on the other hand is dancing no better now than earlier in the competition. She has already reached her peak- and we are bored with her one-leg (the same leg?) trick.

I think she should have already gone. It may be that Krishnan was due to go this week - but Angela was not the one he should have been facing.

I agree, but the very fact that she is dancing in Blackpool brings the integrity of the BBC into question.
Everyone I’ve chatted to since last night are of the same opinion.

I’ve been of the opinion that the integrity of the BBC has been compromised for a long time Sara. I’m totally sure that this result was fixed. I just hope they let her go next week.

We only have the BBC's word for it re the public votes.

eazybee Mon 13-Nov-23 10:40:30

If it hadn't been for Blackpool I am sure Angela Rippon, whom I like, would have departed last week. I believe the BBC does try to influence the winner with the collusion of some of the judges, who pick off the good dancers regarded as a threat to the Chosen One in the last few weeks. So watch out Bobby and Ellie. I just hope Layton doesn't win.

Charleygirl5 Mon 13-Nov-23 11:29:34

I agree, I also do not think Layton should win because of his professional dance experience but he did not ask to join so it makes it difficult. I think Ellie will probably win although he is a fantastic dancer. I think the 3rd couple left will be Nigel and his professional partner.

I must be the only GN who likes Angela- I think she dances beautifully considering she is 79.

I do think Strictly has reached its "sell by" date.

merlotgran Mon 13-Nov-23 11:44:30

DD and DGD have tickets for Blackpool! They’re really excited as they’ve been applying for years.

No doubt my phone will be pinging around midnight next Saturday so I’d better stay awake! 😂

I agree. As the token oldie she has done a really good job and I’m glad she’s going to Blackpool.

She’ll probably be eliminated next because she has definitely reached her limit but I think she deserves praise for how well she has danced up to now.

Mollygo Mon 13-Nov-23 11:55:09

No you’re not the only one who likes her merlotgran. You’re probably right about her being eliminated next, but I’d love to see her do a faster dance before she leaves. I’m sure she would make a good job of it.

eazybee Mon 13-Nov-23 13:32:00

I said previously that I like Angela Rippon; she is a very graceful dancer and performs well, but obviously is hampered by her age, She said she wanted to be asked for years and I think it is sad that she was not, when she had more stamina.

NotSpaghetti Mon 13-Nov-23 14:52:10

I think she is using her head as a counterbalance to try to correct her frame.

If we are keeping people because they are "terrific for their age" we could open it up to the general public maybe.
I expect we all know people roughly her age who are likely to be great dancers (not me anymore I hasten to add!).

NotSpaghetti Mon 13-Nov-23 14:53:27

Just noticed your comment re her head Joseann. Sorry.

Joseann Mon 13-Nov-23 15:33:11

No worries NotSpaghetti. Yes, frame that's the word I meant. All dancers have to do exercises to improve their abdominal muscles which helps their posture. I guess as we get older we loose some of the tightness and strength.
Pilates helps in this respect, and don't ask me how I know this, (!!!), but pole fitness is also a brilliant exercise for your abdominals! grin

But I really want to ask you. 🤣🤣
Where do you find a pole dancing class?

NotSpaghetti Mon 13-Nov-23 15:44:37

Google "pole dancing class", Mollygo?

I have just done this and found several at gyms near me. If you are near a gym you are likely to find a class.

My daughter goes to a pole dancing club in Romford. She also has a pole installed in her house.

Careful Mollygo, you're getting over excited!
I said a pole fitness class, not pole dancing. Big difference. 😆

I liked Krishnan over the series more than I'd expected but if he hadn't gone this week, it would have been next, I feel. Although improving, he's nowhere near as good as the good ones, so his time was fast approaching.

While I don't really care much about the Get Angela To Blackpool arc, and I think she is amazing and graceful and elegant for her age or any age, it really is time for her to go too.

I remember some years ago a paralympian, memory doesn't retain names but I think it was a leg issue he had, and he thanked the judges for judging him on how well or other wise he'd danced, and not how well he'd danced "for a person with a disability". It's time now for Angela to stop being judged for how well she dances "for a person if her age".

Mollygo Mon 13-Nov-23 17:04:56

Thanks Joseann
Hopes dashed again! 😥😥

DD and DGD are having a whale of a time in Blackpool. They arrived last night after a six hour train journey from the south coast. They were going to get an early night but there was such a buzz they went out to sample the bright lights instead! 🥳

They spent the morning celeb spotting and were amused to learn that the make up artists all pile into Primark for a top up of anything they should need.

They have to be in the ballroom by 1.45 and as their phones have to be handed in it will be radio silence for nine hours!!

No doubt my phone will be pinging at midnight! 😂

Grandmadinosaur Sat 18-Nov-23 14:01:17

How exciting for them merlotgran I’m not jealous at all 🤣
I’ve been applying for tickets for years without any success. Nowadays I just apply for Blackpool as I live in the north. I always say to my DH shall we just go and stay there when Strictlys on and hang around hoping to see the dancers/celebs etc. He’s not keen!
I look forward to you sharing any behind the scenes gossip.

mokryna Sat 18-Nov-23 14:20:18

I like both Krishnan and Angela and guessed it would be a dance off between them.
It is easier for most of the male dancers as they are not wearing the «for women the Latin shoe heels are normally around 3 to 3 1/2 inches and ballroom heels 2 to 2 1/2 inches».
I am a little bit younger than AR and I would not be able to do two steps down the road in any heels.
