Anyone watching? Very gory, but in a blackly comic way.

I haven't watched it but apparently some of it was filmed in our village high street.

Cabowich Wed 22-Nov-23 15:59:25

It wasn't the violence that put me off so much as the sudden silliness when the actors started singing in the theatre production. What was all that about?

Bazza Wed 22-Nov-23 15:57:05

I loathe violence in any form. Aren’t there enough horrors on the news? I did watch it up to the tongue cutting and that was enough. How that is ever considered entertaining is totally beyond me. Could scenes like this have anything to do with this cruel violent world we now inhabit?

Watched one and a half episodes of Boat Story, thought it was darkly funny at first but got fed up with it during that silly village hall musical. I won't bother with the rest. Didn't even attempt to watch Kin. Sick of feuding families!
But I agree, The Newsreader is great.

I am enjoying it. The violence is so extreme that I have become immune to it, almost like a pastiche of a Sam Peckinpah film ( remember Salad days, the Monty Python spoof?). I really like 'The Tailor', the actor was really good as Baptiste.

I watched the first 2 episodes, and then gave up.....too gory, too "back and forth" too complicated for me and I love a murder/ mystery show. I sort of lost track half way through episode 2, so decided no more, I'll look for something else to watch.
A disappointment for me from the BBC, after the marvellous "Time" that was on the other week, that was a great series and really enjoyed.

Tried to watch it but dark comedy isn’t my cup of tea. Far too gory. Tongues chopped out, bodies chopped up and burned. Ooh no!

MerylStreep Wed 22-Nov-23 13:17:25

TanaMa
It was listed as a dark comedy. So they achieved what they set out to do 😊

missdeke Wed 22-Nov-23 13:05:15

I wanted to watch it as a friend of mine is in it (only as an extra), but I could not get into it at all.

NannaFirework Wed 22-Nov-23 12:50:37

It’s very bloody.
Good cast and we are hooked now!
Brilliant performances and it is abit different …

TanaMa Wed 22-Nov-23 12:11:36

Must be me!! But I found the gore and violence so ITT that it felt it was more comedic and they stuck a few more nasties in to 'prove' it was really bad! Not the way it was meant to be, however I find SIN violence and nasty people more believable.

Me too Ruby Song

Lookout01 Wed 22-Nov-23 11:43:13

Watched first one and half of the other, far too violent for me, shame as I'd like to find out if they get away with the drugs haul but it's more like a Quentin Tarratino movie and the tongue thing was sickening

SueEH Wed 22-Nov-23 11:18:29

I’m enjoying this; dark and different but those are good recommendations in my book.

Tcheky Karyo Plays a baddie and doesn’t look nearly as lovely

We lasted 10 minutes before finding something else to watch. Far too violent. We then started Kin. We lasted a little bit longer with it but it went the same way. Who are the people that write these things, who are the people who direct, produce and act in these productions? Is it any wonder there is so much violence in the world we now live in? I dispare.

Going to watch it because I’ve been told there’s a whippet in it…

For about 5 seconds. I think there was a glimpse of it in the back of a car.

I flicked through it and was dismayed to see yet another series which is dark, gory and violent. As if we don't get enough on the news. Or maybe people are so used to blood and guts they just expect to see that in every drama series, along with swearing of course, mustn't forget that. I just wonder who is working at the BBC these days, who commissions and creates these dreadful things. We deserve so much better.

humptydumpty Tue 21-Nov-23 15:25:38

I haven't watched this at all but now that I know the dishy Tcheky Karyo is in it, I might change my mind!

MayBee70 Tue 21-Nov-23 15:20:11

I usually watch bbc dramas and enjoy them but this wasn’t for me. I watched the first part wasn’t very impressed but thought I would give the second part a chance no it was too violent and rather gory so deleted it but I will praise KIN which was on Saturday night I’ve binge watched it on red button and I’m hooked it’s gory but believable can’t wait for part 2 👍

hazelnuts Tue 21-Nov-23 12:34:40

Equal I got as far as the tongue episode and swithced off
I dont need any more violence in my life I think we have all got enough and can someone explain how humour can come in to the violence shown
Not for me I am afraid the tongue removal was really gory

BlueBelle Tue 21-Nov-23 06:44:17
