You can really tell if an on-screen couple have no chemistry, can't you? Clive Owen and Keira Knightley in King Arthur are a case in point. Neither of them has much charisma at the best of times, IMO, but they were hoplessly miscast as lovers in that film, which was a shame, as otherwise it was an excellent cast.

I think it was mainly because I’d seen the Sky Arts programme about Ryan Gosling which said how good he was as a young actor. I’ve never really liked him as an actor and hadn’t been aware of him in his younger days. I didn’t really think there was any chemistry between him and the leading lady and I read that they disliked each other when they made the film but then dated a few years later. I never usually watch films about Alzheimer’s, no matter how good they are but I love James Garner. I wasn’t really sure that it was a chick flick but it was described as one on Wikipedia.

I don't think that The Notebook or Love Actually are 'chick flicks'. My son and my husband like both of them, whereas I (am I a 'chick'?) think Love Actually is quite sexist and unpleasant.

I enjoyed Four Weddings, but found The Notebook unremittingly sad. I kept thinking it hd finished then there was more tear-jerking . I think it's one of those films where you have to be in a certain mood to enjoy it.

I have problems with films that include dogs eg The Holiday in which there’s a dog involved sometimes but then people are out and about for hours or days and no provision is made for the dog. I keep having to tell myself it’s just a film.

Love Actually is quite a poignant film and I became quite tearful over Emma Thompson finding out about her husband's affair (been there myself and perhaps that's why I became emotional.)

Enjoyed Four Weddings too, but The Holiday was too sickly sweet even for me.
