I used tolike watching her cooking but I find the permanent smerk on her face irritating. And the way she shovells food in and then wipes her mouth with the back of her hand..Maybe I'm getting too grumpy
And the wa

I started watching this, but must admit I nodded off before the end.

What got me was at the beginning, when she went into the house, she mixed herself a fancy cocktail, still wearing her red coat, and never washed her hands first. Manhandling ice cubes with her bare hands. Seeing as she had just been pictured pulling her wheelie suitcase, I assume she had been travelling to get there.

Wonder when it was filmed? Nigella was waxing lyrical about the joys of Christmas, but it was probably recorded in the late summer.

Find her posturing and over emphasis of everything a bit wearing, used to be her trademark but seems old hat now.

Sorry Nigella!

Yes Calendargirl all that posturing is old hat now and I find it silly.... can't be bothered with it.

Sending Nigella to Amsterdam ……. not the best idea 😉

Joseann Fri 22-Dec-23 08:39:39

grin grin I think Nigella is one classy lady and her smirky look is very tongue in cheek. (I agree it is a bit old hat.)
The programme was definitely filmed at Christmas time because the light show on the canals only runs until Jaunray 13th.
Those mussles looked delicious.

By the way, I am sure Nigella who is Jewish, has some Dutch heritage.

GrannyGravy13 Fri 22-Dec-23 08:45:42

I didn’t see the programme, will watch on catch up.

I like Nigella and her over the top decadence 👍

I thought I'd remembered something, and I checked it out .....
Her forefathers maintained the Ashkenazi Great Synagogue of Amsterdam, and the signature in Hebrew of her great x7 grandfather was found in Jewish community record books dating from 1709. It seems she originates from Eastern Europe or Germany.

I'm with joseann and GG13. I love watching Nigella.

Nigella is Jewish from her mother and was on a programme of "Who do you think you are".Her father was of course, Nigel Lawson Margaret Thatcher chancellor.
I can forgive her silly posturing after her treatment by her second husband, I would feel I would want to show him"I'm back again", and she is.
Maybe the programme was made in two parts but it was Christmas with the lights and nights.
She makes her cooking look easy but I was bought one of her books and never used a recipe. At least the programme was cheerful and Christmassy with all the trouble in the world.

So do I. I’ve missed the glitz and glamour of her (film set) kitchen and her subtle innuendos - not in the least banal like Bake Off.

Who knew Fat Patty was her drag name? 😂😂

Ha ha Bella. You ought to try a recipe or two, particularly from Nigella Express. The Mellow Meatballs are yummy and the banana and white chocolate muffins too. My book has lost the cover I've used it so much!

I have loads of her cookbooks and use heaps of her recipes.

Strangely my other most used cookbooks are Mary Berry.

Ladyleftfieldlover Fri 22-Dec-23 09:39:15

I’ve made several of her recipes. Every Christmas I make spiced chocolate muffins from her Domestic Goddess cook book. I have stopped watching her television programmes though!

maytime2 Fri 22-Dec-23 09:45:33

Bella - Her father Nigel Lawson was also Jewish, but according to his son, Dominic Lawson, journalist, was a non practising Jew

Thanks for the tip Joseann, my daughter uses her all the time. I have a print of her meatballs with Orzo in Vermooth that I can recommend.
I use Delia Smith and mainly Mary Berry, and Anna del a Conti we all like Italian food and I had an Italian aunt who encouraged me with her pancetta and parmesan much better than my mother's drab Cumbrian cooking.
I love to watch Nigella; she is always so cheerful she makes you want to cook, especially with all her colourful gadgets and utensils.
I'll give the book a try.
My Delia has lost its cover and is tucked away for safety I bought another second-hand one to use.

Sorry I must have missed that bit about her father, What I meant she is bound to be Jewish if her mother was it's a matriarchal system I have Jewish friends who explained it. You know who your mum is but your father?

Although I don’t cook I love watching Nigella. She’s what I call the opposite of a fun sponge.

henetha Fri 22-Dec-23 10:18:25

I like watching her flirting with the camera. She's quite entertaining. And her food is nice too.

Yoginimeisje Fri 22-Dec-23 10:22:48

Love Nigella, I think she's lovely and love the way she cooks & then sits and eats with family & friends.

Loved last night's Nigella in Amsterdam as I lived in Rotterdam for 7yrs, so it was so nice to see it all again and the lovely shops and how helpful and polite the shopkeepers were, same as when I lived there.

merlotgran Fri 22-Dec-23 10:23:12

Years ago DsiL bought DD2 the kimono style dressing gown that Nigella wore as she wafted around the kitchen dreamily nibbling late night snacks or mixing cocktails.

I’m sure DD would have been happy to enter into the spirit had she not just given birth to their third child. 😂

LadyGaGa Fri 22-Dec-23 10:49:46

I really enjoyed Nigella - it cheered me up no end! Her ‘simple’ dishes that are full of weird and wonderful ingredients from her heaving cupboards. ‘Maybe you could use something similar from the supermarket’ 😂 Her special liquorice box, and of course her ‘nut bashing’ bag. She’s so glamorous and it’s one of the few new and Christmasy things on TV. I also love the party of ‘friends’ who um ahh and nod without speaking - presumably they’d have to be paid more if they spoke 😂 Long may she reign!

Ziplok Fri 22-Dec-23 11:01:33

I like watching Nigella. She makes me smile. Yes, it’s all rather tongue in cheek, maybe a bit silly, even, but fun. I agree, the way she was treated by her second husband gives her every right to show him that’s she’s back and getting on with her life - good on her, I say.

Freya5 Fri 22-Dec-23 11:11:03

I enjoy watching Nigella, her midnight snacks, don't make me feel so bad, and her cheerful ways, she loves what she does and her enthusiasm is infectious. Her Chocolate Fruit cake is delicious, from Feast.

Louella12 Fri 22-Dec-23 11:15:10

I am not a fan. But then I'm not a fan of any cookery person/show.
