The ones I watch (not particularly good I have to say ) are, apart from the news, Bargain Hunt ( British) and Millionaire (Australian with Eddie McGuire). Just a habit. I watch Vera a lot,too and another one we have here, Hard Quiz.

I'm another regular Archers listener, have been since the start when I listened from my Mother's knee.

Our TV has been pretty much supplanted by YouTube. We watch the occasional thing on iPlayer but there's very little we have any interest in these days.

YouTube on the other hand has masses. I'm in bed with flu and yesterday had a lovely evening watching a BBC program from 3 years ago where they reproduced the Netherfield Ball from Pride and Prejudice, as close as they could to Jane Austen's experience. Tonight I've been walking the Silk Road and learning about tectonic plates and tsunamis. Tomorrow I think will be an archaeology evening with Alice Roberts and Time Team.

I have listened to the Archers every day ( missed yesterday) for about 20 years, maybe longer. My only ‘soap’.

Escape to the Country (especially when it's Alastair Appleton or Jules Hudson) so I can unleash my inner green-eyed envy-monster.

Richard Osman's House of Games for the pleasure of watching unlikely people enjoying themselves and my joy when the next round is announced to be "Where is Khazakstan".

I (we) confess to a daily Bargain Hunt - and often forty winks but no other daily progs.

Corrie since 1960.
Art programmes like Portrait and Landscape Artist of the Year.

There are now very few programmes I watch at all. I used to enjoy Bargain Hunt but it has changed since Wonnacott left. They treat the contestants like children.
I have surprised myself by regularly watching My 600lb Life. I think it's the psychological side...they all have certain personality traits in common.

Well, most shows aren't on all the time, except soaps I suppose, and the News? There's a terrific show on now, so funny, Dogs Behaving Very Badly (C5 - Tuesdays) which non dog owners can appreciate, and dog owners should watch too?!

Like someone else we watch the BBC quizzes on Mondays, Only Connect (the lift if we can answer a question!) and University Challenge, which has been heavily dumbed down from what it once was, we can now sometimes answer a question that the bright young things don't know, or we're at least quicker! We like any of the Place in the Sun shows, though it's not a regular date, just if we catch one, though I doubt we'll be going to live in Portugal or Italy due to medical issues!

I can recommend the Talking Pictures channel, (TV and films from yesteryear) on Virgin, Freeview, Freesat, Youview, or 'Sky Digital'. Lots of reminders of lost youth, they've just started some Dixon of Dock Green (a few very grainy episodes weren't lost), we see Rumpole of the Bailey, the original Maigret (Rupert Davies), and a french Maigret, made in the 90s, has subtitles but they're OK, and if you know a bit of French it's good fun picking out a few words.

And they do a fun show on Sundays, Footage Detectives, with little films sent in by viewers, questions about series or stars, or general appeals for help, They've got Worzel Gummidge showing if you like, The Brothers, Public Eye and more oldies to stir some memories. And on Sat mornings they show some stuff actually from those Sat morning cinema shows for kids!

Pointless, but not the repeats. Mastermind, Only Connect and University Challenge practically from the word go.

Hellogirl1 Tue 30-Jan-24 15:54:41

It`s not on every day, but I`ve never missed a single episode of Eastenders since it began in February 1985, simply because I love it!

I love Brenda Blethyn as an actress in Vera. Some Geordie friends tell me her accent isn’t quite right but it still sounds pretty good to me. We don’t have anything like University Challenge but I used to watch it when I lived in the UK. Bamber Gascoigne- you can tell how old I am! I don’t think it would go down that well here, though.

Grandma70s Mon 29-Jan-24 23:29:37

I watch BBC Breakfast every day, the first part in bed. For me it has the ideal mix of news and other items.

Not a daily programme, but I have watched University Challenge for many, many years.

I rarely miss Countdown. My late father had watched it from the beginning and was especially proud of his maths skills. He introduced me to the programme and I've now got DS2 hooked. When I visit we watch it together and he is far quicker than I am. I'm trying to persuade him to apply!

I watched Eastenders from when it started in the early 80 s until about 10 years ago when I suddenly decided I had enough of it.
In all that time no one managed to buy a washing machine so if they weren't in the launderette they were being thrown out of the Vic, and not a Christmas Day passed without some unfortunate coming to a sorry end….. all that shouting got a bit much too. So I just stopped watching one day and je ne regrete rien.

woodenspoon Mon 29-Jan-24 22:18:55

I like watching Vera, Escape to the Country; Countryfile and Antiques Roadshow. Also most of what is on itv3. Poirot, Miss Marple, Dalziel & Pascoe etc. easy watching.

DH and I have phases of watching programmes for months on end, then seem to switch to something else.

50-ish years ago I knew a couple who suffered quite a late miscarriage with their first pregnancy. Her parents treated them to a fortnight in America to help them recover, and the wife insisted they record Crossroads while they were away. Back then, a holiday to America was something spectacular for a working-class couple, which made the insistence of recording a tv programme a bit potty!!!

Since my husband went into full time care ( Alzheimers) I hardly watch tv . It’s a reaction to a deaf husband watching tv at full blast 15 hours a day non-stop. My resulting tinnitus ….slight deafness in left ear ….and inability to focus on anything for too long , has left me inoculated to tv. But I turn on for anything with Attenborough or Brian Cox …love anything to do with space !
Turn on for Silent Witness ( well to record it!) ….dont bother with news as I realise after watching it for 60 years …nothing has changed. StillArab v Israelis fighting each other ….still racism ….still sexism ….still police brutality….still rotten politicians….so now I dont bother!

Flappergirl love that too.
