Alison Hammond shouty and disturbing

Could the programme and advertisement makers please ask this presenter to tone it down a peg? She's everywhere, shrieking and shouting and laughing uproariously at nothing! Im not being anti-Brummie - I'm from the West Midlands myself and hearing the accent makes me feel at home. I just cant bear it and have to hit the mute button whenever she's on, so whatever she is advocating or presenting goes unheard - by me at least!

Don't understand why these people have to be OTT! No need for it and it's not helping the presenting! Just calm it down.

She’s good on GBBO, I assume that’s who she really is. I switch off anyone who laughs like she does on daytime TV. I don’t like Jimmy Care’s laugh, Amanda Holden has a cackle, and don’t go there with Rusty Lee. I watched her on something recently and could not get my head round what she was cackling about. It’s annoying.

I really don't like AH and will turn off when she appears. Too loud and over the top

AskAlice Sat 27-Jan-24 18:03:46

Bluebelle Sorry, that was in response to your post Wed 24-Jan-24 16:07:07 - I hadn't seen this thread before so am a bit slow in catching up!

AskAlice Sat 27-Jan-24 18:00:29

Bluebelle, my tortoise is a real character - I think that's a bit of a tortoiseist remark!

Just checked and it's Charlene White who has been a presenter on Loose Women since 2021

I like Charlene but wouldn't watch Loose Women.

The only person I cannot bear to watch (apart from Trump) is Jimmy Carr but that is my problem so I avoid him.

This thread spurred me on to sign up. I am surprised and disappointed at the tone on Gransnet about these two women. I find that most of the posts on Gransnet usually seem kinder than on Mumsnet, The criticism of Alison Hammond & Rustie Lee has been rather harsh for them just being themselves. I like them both just the way they are. Alison isn’t a presenter on Loose women, those are other women of a similar hue, take a proper look and note the difference.

Just checked and it's Charlene White who has been a presenter on Loose Women since 2021. However, Alison Hammond has appeared on Loose Women a few times so maybe that's the reason for the confusion.

I agree that some comments have been unkind and I find it unacceptable to call people repulsive and similar. I'm also very much against insults and jokes based on height. People like Rishi Sumak and Penny Lancaster get mocked and it makes me cringe. It's the same as insulting someone based on their skin colour and that would never be allowed. You cannot change your height or your skin colour and people should remember that and be less cruel.

This thread is about being shouty and having a terrible laugh. These are both things that can be changed, although some people like it. No-one can please everyone but we are entitled to say how much we dislike it.

I like her, no problems at all

I totally agree, when she was recently one of the acts on masked singer (witchery grub) I belive. I told my husband the second she walked on stage that it was Alison Hammond despite the mask and the fact she hadn't spoken, given any clues or sang at that stage. I knew because of the goddamned awful screech she made as she walked on. I said at the time. "I hope it's not because if she's not voted off fast then I won't be watching any more" Thankfully she did go fast. Horrible repulsive woman.

Oh my! I can’t believe you can call someone you haven’t met ‘repulsive’. Such a strong word and maybe everything that is wrong with the world at the moment. I joined gransnet because I thought there would be good debate, but never thought so much would be based on people’s criticisms of how others look, laugh, even smile (Elaine Paige looking like a horse on a thread yesterday) and such harsh personal criticisms. Whatever happened to ‘be kind’. Thank you gransnet, but I am bowing out after today.

This kind of presentation seems to be either what people want now - or perhaps what they get, like it or not. This morning, driving to see DD, I switched on Radio 4 - programme title unknown - which seemed to be about Pythagoras and Socrates, and perhaps other great minds of the ancient world. However, having picked up a few interesting snippets such as Pythagoras is now believed to have been of African descent, and Socrates liked going to the gym (he felt exercise made his intellect sharper) I had to switch off. One of the presenters kept cackling with laughter and talking loudly over the rest, which was a great pity as she was the principal speaker, with interesting information. Radio 4 appears to have turned Saturday mornings into what sound like private parties for people who have had a lot of blue Smarties and won't let anyone else get a word in - it's almost like standing outside in a corridor trying to listen and make sense of what is being said.

This is what seems to happen, Kim19
Over-exposure then viewers, get sick of seeing them.

I like Bradley Walsh but every time you turn on the TV there he is.

Or, as DH says, she's everywhere, like a rash!

Kim19 Sat 27-Jan-24 14:45:31

I think she's OK but being very over used and over exposed by the powers that be right now. I understand her grabbing at every work opportunity she is offered as her industry is volatile and can be somewhat fickle regarding 'personalities' I wish her well but would certainly like to see/hear a good bit less of her at the moment.

Cateq Sat 27-Jan-24 14:36:45

I’ve had nightmares involving her and Emma Willis as both their voices make my ears hurt

Betty18 Sat 27-Jan-24 14:26:35

Ok i’m Gonna say it out loud! ( see what I did there )
I have an issue with Brian Blessed. Everyone else seems to love him but I can’t cope with the noise he makes. It irks me that he seems to have a career based on being shouty and everyone thinks it’s funny. Am I the only one?

Janeea Sat 27-Jan-24 14:22:39

I thought the same about her on Bake-off wasn’t sure I would carry on watching it but she was good

I think AH is over-rated as a presenter. Overpaid too. The best presenters have a journalist background; know how to talk to people, how to interview and usually act with the decorum the job deserves. Many TV presenters are hard to understand as their diction is so poor.

Amalegra Sat 27-Jan-24 12:34:45

Alison Hammond is a bit much for me although she does seem very good natured. Strangely enough, I love Rustie Lee who certainly is OTT sometimes! But I find her laugh SO infectious and she always makes me smile.

JaneJudge Sat 27-Jan-24 12:25:44

Did Sue and Mel have knowledge of baking?

Efs1 Sat 27-Jan-24 12:25:22

I dont like her on BakeOff, laughs at nothing.

I completely agree, I find her voice loud and grating.

TerriBull Sat 27-Jan-24 12:24:37

I've only seen her of late on Bake Off, I'm with Callistemon, "you'd have to pay me too to watch Loose Women"

TerriBull Sat 27-Jan-24 12:20:13

I like her, she is loud, sometimes a tad annoying, but not enough to make me dislike her, I perceive her as quite excitable it's just a facet of her personality those characteristics tend to go together, I think what you see is the real her rather than a manufactured for tv persona I remember her from BB one of the earlier ones which I watched until I got fed up with the format. I've always thought she has a lovely face, not that we should judge women on that.

cc Sat 27-Jan-24 12:18:47

Don't others feel that at least one of the presenters on programmes like Bake Off should have some relevant knowledge, otherwise how do they judge? I do like Noel Fielding though.
