Hi all

I recently had a hysterectomy and so I am recuperating and looking for a really good TV series to watch. I loved watching Last Tango in Halifax, The Split, Happy Valley, Call the Midwife and currently watching The Flood when its on. I love anything with Sarah Lancashire and Nicola Walker in. Any ideas?? Thank you for reading.

Nothing like what you have mentioned, but I have been hooked on Mad Men, on UKTV play.

With the gorgeous Jon Hamm as dastardly Don Draper.

Spooks with Nicola Walker?

Take out a monthly contract on ITVX. This has been combined with BritBox and there are lots of older series on there. The Unforgotten with Nicola Walker springs to mind.

Free on iplayer are all eleven series of Father Brown.

I think Nicola Walker was in Spooks ? That is an action/ spy thingy and quite old so you will have to dig it out.
Just watched "Wilderness "; thriller built around a murder but lively and a bit tongue in cheek.Good plot twist.
Try "The Affair" ? This is basically an American soap opera with Dominic West and Ruth Wilson (not meant perjoratively; I follow the UK medical soaps myself); the affair itself is a jumping-off point but a large cast of characters across several time periods ensues.

We are binge watching Spooks just now, it’s brilliant if you like spy stories and lots of thrilling action. Nicola Walker appears in the second series I think. There are 10 series with lots of episodes so lots to keep you entertained.

Spooks is excellent, and I think it is on UKTV Play, which also has a lot of old series such as Bad Girls and Soldier Soldier.

I also really like No Offence, which is on 4OD. There are four series of that, and it is well worth a watch, as is It's A Sin (also on 4OD).

Slow Horses on Apple TV is brilliant, and This Is England (86, 88 and 90) are, too - another Ch4 series, available on 4OD. I think This Is England is one of the best UK tv shows ever.

Wolf Hall is on iPlayer, and The Tudors is on 4OD if you like history.

I’ve just started Kidnap and Ransom with Trevor Eve on ITVX and it’s rather good.

Unforgotten with Nicola Walker. I'm also rather enjoying the Madame le Blanc series on channel 5. It's pleasantly light and non violent. Also Death in Paradise returns to BBC1 tonight.

Ive been watching some good but old series on netflix:-

Danial Deronda
The Far Pavillions
Indian Summers

and currently

Edward and Mrs Simpson (I danced with a man who danced with a girl who danced with the Prince of Wales)

I love old costume dramas - an occupational hazard when you deal in vintage accessories.

Good Karma Hospital on ITV. It’s set in modern India, a cast of likeable characters and beautiful scenery.

I enjoyed the Gilded Age which was on Sky Atlantic, (2 seasons) it is by Julian Fellows and set in Edwardian America. Also "The Body in the Wall" with Ruth Wilson was on BBC 1 set in Ireland in the 80 & present day and very gripping.

I have been binge watching all the series of Suits (starring Meghan Markle) I loved it first time around. Trigger point is also good, I like action series. I am once again watching Law and Order, Special Victims Unit, it has been on for 23 years and still going strong. The star of the show is the daughter of the late Jayne Mansfield and Mickey Haggerty. Also Outlander the time travelling tv series is great.

Luther - BBC I-Player
The Crown - Netflix
It’s A Sin - Channel 4

The Missing was good.

Pammie1 Sun 04-Feb-24 17:43:37

The subscription to ITVX is the best thing I’ve done recently. Loads of good drama. To name a few which I highly recommend, Mistresses, The Virtues, Trigger Point, Mr Bates Vs the Post Office, After the Flood, Boiling point, Little Boy Blue, The Twelve.

Pammie1 Sun 04-Feb-24 17:45:14

Also if you have Apple TV, Slow Horses, and The Morning Show. Also ITVX - Platform 7.

Depends what you like.

The Tourist was quite good. BBC 2 seasons.

And if you want something "soft" Seaside Hotel (with subtitles) - maybe 7 series!

Not a series but House of Gucci is a really enjoyable movie if you can find it, and a true story:

With Lady Gaga, Adam Driver, Al Pacino, Jeremy Irons, what's not to love?
