I sometimes think people have too many expectations on the royal family

Not only does that mean those who go against those expectations are ostracised and verbally stoned by an angry public...

It also means many royal family members are so constrained by image they may as well live in a cage so people can pay to "oooh" at them because they have nothing natural about their lives at all

It's marrying into The Firm too and all that entails.

We don't really know what goes on in the family behind closed doors either, only what some staff have reported when they sell their lurid stories to the highest bidder.

But I'm not really interested in what goes on behind closed doors. I do find it interesting that the men who marry into the RF retain careers or independent lives whereas the women don't. (and if you doubt this look into the careers of Princess Anne's husbands). The only real options for them being charity work and public appearances, and those being limited to ones considered acceptable to The Firm's public image. Unless they leave the Firm- so Diana adopted Aids and Land Mines both considered a bit radical at the time.
Other RFs have family members who have proper jobs.

The Queen died after a long privileged life. Sad for her family.
Unlike my mum and probably yours she worked hard and still ended up only getting CHC when past knowing.
This preoccupation with the health of an outdated outpost of the class society is frightening given the state of our nhs.
No wonder we’ve walked into this nightmare.
Oh for an elected republic and then they’d just be subject of hello magazine-UGH!

I have no desire to have more air time on the Duchess of Sussex, but pushing a feminist agenda without first thinking through your argument doesn’t help your cause. The point I was making was that anybody who marries into the royal family is subject to the same rules of etiquette, male or female. And no, I wasn’t specifically referring to Prince Philip, I was referring to all the husbands of royals.

I'm not saying that at all. Just wondering why it is seen as my fault a thread is wandering (as all threads do).

I did feel sorry for the late Queen who did a difficult job to perfection during the whole of my life, and I think she had the right to have those she wanted close to her at the end.

The Queen died and we were all very sad. She had been in my life all the time. So why are people picking over who said or did what on that day? I don’t understand. Let her rest in peace.
