Gone off her now, find her hysterical, her forced jollity and raucous laugh extremely irritating.

Quizzer

I was on a quiz show with her. Delightful person and as funny off screen as on. I think the travel shows have gone on too long.

Certainly lots of showbiz "personalities" get to go to some very interesting places around the world at our expense.

Simon Reeve and Ben Fogle are fine, though, please carry on.
Michael Palin was the best!

TV for the stupid Well sometimes I need a bit of light relief from all the doom and gloom and as I'm not travelling myself at the moment, I can enjoy it second-hand.

I do prefer Michael Portillo’s train journeys and travel programmes though!
Oh yes, I'll add him to my must watch list 🙂

I disagree with some of the comments above. I find the programmes with Susan and Jane very entertaining and enjoyable. These aren’t serious travel documentaries. They are simply designed to give a superficial insight into different holiday types and destinations.

I dislike the "zany, dippy, "I'm mad, me" way that a lot of female presenters seem to have.
It isn't cute or amusing to see grown up, intelligent women behaving like plump, excitable children

Oh to be a a celebrity - be it Joanna Lumley, Susan Calman or Jane MacDonald, Michael Portillo, Michael Palin, Simon Reeve etc They get to travel to all these amazing places all over the world for free. Turning green with envy as I think about it.

MissAdventure Sat 24-Feb-24 13:48:21

It's just a shame some of them come back.

That was a joke, by the way.

I used to like Susan's' travels around the UK. I agree, the places she visited when in an area were not ones I would have chosen, but hey-ho!
She had visited a town quite near to us and we went into a very famous ice cream parlour which featured in the programme. I asked the waitress who served us if she had liked the piece on tv. Oh my goodness; she said that Susan was unpleasant and only just short of rude to the staff, playing the 'star' whenever the cameras weren't rolling.
I'm also getting fed up with seeing celebrities out on a jolly when so many have so little.

I assume she wants to make each episode exciting and memorable for the viewer. I'm OK with her until she starts all the melodramatic blubbing after visiting some locations. Of course there are places with sad history, but she does rather over egg it for the camera.

Can't stand her, or Jane MacDonald. What a pity as I love travel programmes, and that's the only way I can go nowadays. I just want to know about the places, without all the babble. Simon Reeve is excellent. Rick Stein too. His are the only food programmes I can watch, as I don't like the competitive ones.

MichD Sat 24-Feb-24 14:27:33

I completely agree, I find her joyful and love to see the places she's visiting. Really enjoy the Grand Day Out show but also the cruising ones. Will be watching her new history one that starts next week too. I find her shows comforting and stress relieving.

I think Michael Portillo, Michael Palin, Simon Reeve proved to be more than just celebs going off on trips hab0vinv a giddy time at our expense.

Their travel programmes are interesting and thought-provoking, as are Ben Fogle's.

😁 No, I'm not giddy, multi-tasking (one eye on the Rugby).

Antarctica seems to be " a thing" for celebs just now..Sue Perkins, Susan Calman and now the 4 women celebs trekking across ( Sara from Dragons Den, and 3 others names slipped my mind!)

Dianehillbilly1957 Sat 24-Feb-24 15:38:26

Like some of the places she visits and finds them interesting, but I struggle with so-called funny people who are not, trying their damdest to be! Sorry Susan, you need to tone it down a fair bit and maybe more people like me would watch a programme that many would enjoy.

crazyH Sat 24-Feb-24 15:44:35

I love all travel programmes - I see places that I have never been to or ever likely to visit. So, all good 👍

Harris27 Sat 24-Feb-24 15:48:59

Nithing wrong with Jane McDonald very down to earth.

Indeed. Because DH enjoys them, we tend to have a lot of travel shows and ones with celebrity chefs showing us mediocre recipes in stunning locations running in the background. Each to their own of course, but I don’t care for them, especially the holiday type ones where we’re shown what a super time we could have if only we checked in to the best hotel in the area and ate at the most expensive restaurants.

Personally I’d like to see some ordinary people, particularly those who couldn’t otherwise afford it, show us their take on these places.

missdeke Sat 24-Feb-24 17:05:57

I don't watch her as I too find her too much now. As she has become more popular she seems to have become more childish in her enthusiasm and it's quite wearing. I must admit I find Lorraine Kelly is going the same way too.

Sawsage2 Sat 24-Feb-24 17:44:58

I like Susan Calman but not Joanna Lumley.

LovelyLady Sat 24-Feb-24 18:27:13

Susan Calman is a natural on TV. Some of the so called celebrities are insulting but Susan is unfiltered and a natural. Yes she’s not tall, yes she gives her unbiased opinion, yes she giggles, yes she’s educated, yes she’s adventurous and isn’t focused on looking pretty on camera. All this is endearing, particularly when she tries out the sporting type activities. I enjoy that she partakes in unglamorous activities with child like enthusiasm and her accent is heavenly.
More wonderful Scottish accents please on TV.
Susan for PM. ( when she’s unavailable perhaps Mhairi Black could stand in. She’s another strong Scott)

Callistemon21 Sat 24-Feb-24 18:41:52

Susan for PM

Do you mean First Minister?

flappergirl Sat 24-Feb-24 19:51:28

I've never heard of Susan Calman. About to google her.
