How do we think Alison did?

The fears on GN were that she would be too loud on the Love of Dogs programme. I thought she came across well and mostly spoke softly. Paul was a hard act to follow, but I was pleasantly surprised.

I will not watch further programmes,

MissAdventure Thu 18-Apr-24 14:54:34

I didn't watch it, because I don't like her.

Many occupations bring criticism

I prefer Sandi Toksvig on QI really laugh at that programme while learning amazing snippets.

I’ve often thought celebrities seem to be flavour of the decade appearing or presenting everything until the next batch comes along. Could it be their contracts and like when the same films or TV programmes are repeated over and over they’ve paid for it so flog it endlessly.

I found PaulO’Grady was loud early on then once established able to tone it right down and be himself. As someone said earlier I think he’d be saddened by the criticism. She’s doing a good job and as we hear being in the media industry breaks some and sadly their families hurt too.

Let’s not forget some appear to have a thick skin then later we hear just how bad it was for them.

I've turned off Bake Off due to her. Bring back Sandi Toksvig. She was warm and subtly entertaining.

I haven't watched it yet but have to admit I really like her in Bake Off.And didn't expect to.

Alison Hammond is getting to be like Philip Schofield and Rylan
She's everywhere ,too much of her
Not right for this programme

OldFrill Thu 18-Apr-24 10:27:29

Callistemon21 - Alison has discussed in detail in the media her surprise/shock at the "trolls" and level of "trolling" she's been subjected to. Fortunately she seems to have a thick skin but l suspect Paul would be horrified at the way people have criticised her. I'm not a fan, and haven't watched her in much else, but she does come across as kind and caring in the programme (and voice level appropriate).

Like her or not has nothing to do with her on this programme
the dogs should be centre

There was a much higher percentage of dogs on the screen than there was Alison.

I don't think criticising someone's presentation style and wondering if she is the right person for a particular programme is trolling.

I think she's the woman on The Bakeoff and she's good on there.

Callistemon21 Thu 18-Apr-24 10:13:19

Yes, I've had a cocker spaniel.

Must watch it, Maybee 😁

You’ve missed a treat Callistemon21 if you haven’t seen Lady and The Tramp. I’m sure you’ll know The Siamese Cat song (Peggy Lee) and others from the film.

Back to the thread and I’m sorry to say I missed AH’s first outing of the series. However, I’m not a fan of hers and think they could’ve found someone ‘more qualified’ to front such a programme.

It’s the reason why, as soon as I was old enough to have my own dog, I had Cocker Spaniels!

She was better than I expected but I find her clothes distracting. When she got down on the floor with the dogs she looked like she was wearing a giant nappy!

That was a poop pad as they were filming the puppy pooping.

I don't remember her screeching at all in this programme. I think some people who have commented have pre-judged her and not even watched.

I wasn't aware of her screeching either.

I appear to be in the minority as I really like Alison Hammond, she comes across as natural, extremely kind and not pretentious.

Not all at Battersea are pups , traumatised dogs do not need
screeching and she does screech

Callistemon21 Wed 17-Apr-24 23:29:45

I didn't know that Maybee, and wondered what on earth she was doing 😁

MayBee70 Wed 17-Apr-24 23:25:35

This….

OldFrill Wed 17-Apr-24 23:25:20

It must have been filmed over a month. Her nails varied, sometimes natural, sometimes not - but l see no harm in her false nails, they are blunt (think how puppies nip each other!) She wasn't inappropriately loud and screechy, in one scene with Oscar the pup, the Battersea assistant was as loud if not louder. There's no point creeping around growing puppies in silence, they need to get used to the noise of the real world. I thought she was very warm and caring. She'd given the dog meatballs before the jokey spaghetti scene so no wonder doggo wasn't interested. It's not a programme I normally watch but l was interested due to the online trolling of her (really disgusting but fortunately she seems to have a thick skin). There was definitely a very much higher percentage of dogs in camera shot than Alison. Paul would likely think she'd done a really good job and be pleased the programme continues in support of Battersea. He was a kind person, pity more aren't like him.

I only watched a couple of minutes as we were busy.

However, the bit I watched was where she was in a café, with a dog sitting beside her and she was trying to share a piece of spaghetti with the dog!

Yuk, yuk and yuk.

I haven’t watched it but assume that’s a take off of the scene in Lady and the Tramp where they share a bowl of spaghetti?

Oh, never seen it!

LOUISA1523 Wed 17-Apr-24 20:14:40

I will give her a chance and watch it again .....Paul o'grady is a very hard act to follow ....I saw him at Edinburgh as Miss Hannigan in Annie with my eldest GD....2 days later he died ....I was really shocked

Yes but it fell flat. The dog wasn’t interested.
