How do we think Alison did?

The fears on GN were that she would be too loud on the Love of Dogs programme. I thought she came across well and mostly spoke softly. Paul was a hard act to follow, but I was pleasantly surprised.

She was better than I expected but I find her clothes distracting. When she got down on the floor with the dogs she looked like she was wearing a giant nappy!

I only watched a couple of minutes as we were busy.

However, the bit I watched was where she was in a café, with a dog sitting beside her and she was trying to share a piece of spaghetti with the dog!

Yuk, yuk and yuk.

I won’t be watching again.

I shouldn't judge on the few minutes I saw, but that bit was definitely the Alison Hammond Show with the dog as an accessory.

Unlike Paul, who made the dogs the stars.

I agree Callistemon21 unfortunately I think Alison Hammond was chosen for her perceived popularity and not for any empathy with the charity.
I think they should have started a completely different programme for Battersea and moved away from the Paul O'Grady model.

It did seem a bit like The Alison Hammond Show! It was ok , will probably watch again but not sure she is the right person for the job. Having said that Paul is a hard act to follow!!
His understanding and genuine empathy was always evident. I too feel Alison should not have been sharing spaghetti with a dog! As for allowing a dog to lick her face / mouth - yuk !!!

I watched the recent programme with Paul and the elephants in Africa. I believe it was the last programme he made. What a lovely man he seemed to be.

GrannyGravy13 Wed 17-Apr-24 15:41:09

Shelflife did you find it yuk when Paul O’Grady let the dogs lick his face?

tinaf1 Wed 17-Apr-24 17:22:55

Just watched today suppose you cannot judge on one episode and to be fair I am not a fan of Alison Hammond.
Paul O’Grady is a big act to follow, but have to agree with other posters it seemed like the Alison Hammond show with the dogs as the co stars she doesn’t seem all that comfortable around the dogs either.

This, in a nutshell. With Paul, it was all about the dogs, but with any show I've seen with Alison in it, it somehow all seems to come round to being all about her.

Agreed. I’m afraid I find SHOUTY!!! AH all too easily
switch-off-able.

I was dreading her, but was pleasantly surprised and she showed genuine affection for the dogs. No one can really replace Paul though (imo)

I think he moved his head so they didn't lick his mouth.

Why does she have a need to screech with laughter at things
she say

So many Dogs placed in kennels are traumatised , do they need
here screeching

She should not be allowed to pick up dogs with those nails, I
was shocked she was given a tiny puppy to hold
No, no, no, no.

She’s just soooo loud! Small doses only

Not even small doses with those nails and that laugh

I haven’t watched it but assume that’s a take off of the scene in Lady and the Tramp where they share a bowl of spaghetti?

Yes but it fell flat. The dog wasn’t interested.

I will give her a chance and watch it again .....Paul o'grady is a very hard act to follow ....I saw him at Edinburgh as Miss Hannigan in Annie with my eldest GD....2 days later he died ....I was really shocked

Oh, never seen it!

It must have been filmed over a month. Her nails varied, sometimes natural, sometimes not - but l see no harm in her false nails, they are blunt (think how puppies nip each other!) She wasn't inappropriately loud and screechy, in one scene with Oscar the pup, the Battersea assistant was as loud if not louder. There's no point creeping around growing puppies in silence, they need to get used to the noise of the real world. I thought she was very warm and caring. She'd given the dog meatballs before the jokey spaghetti scene so no wonder doggo wasn't interested. It's not a programme I normally watch but l was interested due to the online trolling of her (really disgusting but fortunately she seems to have a thick skin). There was definitely a very much higher percentage of dogs in camera shot than Alison. Paul would likely think she'd done a really good job and be pleased the programme continues in support of Battersea. He was a kind person, pity more aren't like him.

This….

Callistemon21 Wed 17-Apr-24 23:29:45

I didn't know that Maybee, and wondered what on earth she was doing 😁

Anniebach Wed 17-Apr-24 23:34:40

Not all at Battersea are pups , traumatised dogs do not need
screeching and she does screech
