Was on last night but repeated next Saturday. A new documentary ( 2023) which I haven’t seen before which gave more detail into the years following his departure from Pink Floyd. I’ll never forget seeing them late one night on tv: had never seen or heard anything like it and resulted in a life long adoration of Syd. Even now I get that silly teenage jealousy that he had girlfriends ( it should have been me). I never really liked Pink Floyd after Syd’s departure other than the rather underrated and forgotten Atom Heart Mother.

Somehow around 1967 I was at an event at Imperial College, South Kensington. A group called Pink Floyd were playing in a fairly dark room with psychedelic bubbles projected onto the wall behind them. The music was typically weird but people were enjoying it because they were lying on the floor stoned! I had to pick my way across the bodies to reach my friends in the bar on the other side. Pete Townsend was in there having a drink. I recognised him but didn't know Pink Floyd because they were very new, and whatever it was they were playing that night was just a tuneless, weird, psychedelic sound to me! I don't think See Emily Play had even been released by then but when it came out I loved it and bought it.

A other Syd fan here, I missed it last night but will watch next week.

Just found this which was dated 26 Oct 1968, so maybe that was the event I went to. Smile and The Troggs were the other two groups.

Smile was QUEEN before Freddie joined them in 1970 so I must have been in the same room as them without knowing it. I have to admit I'm more of a Queen fan than Pink Floyd.

Here you are MayBee70, a psychedelic picture of Syd maybe playing at Imperial College. 😁

Pete Townsend mentioned that night. He said it was the only time he ever missed one of his own gigs but he went to see Pink Floyd with ( I think) Eric Clapton. I’ll listen to what he says properly when I rewatch it.

I didn’t have a record player but bought See Emily Play. I used to walk to my boyfriends house, leave him downstairs with his mum and shut myself in his room so I could play it over and over again.

It’s on at midnight Saturday morning I think.

My husband was away at school in Cambridge in the early 70’s.
His parents thought he was having a very studious time, it was however more psychedelic than academic!
He often used to see Syd on his bike and drank at pubs frequented by Pink Floyd.
I am so jealous.

It’s midnight May 3rd. After Guy Garvey from the vaults. I’ve been forgetting to watch Guy Garvey; I like his programmes.

Awh thanks, will look forward to it.

My only claim to fame is having been at school with Dave Gilmour’s sister in the 60s.

Most people will know this but for those who don’t, Shine On You Crazy Diamond was about Syd. A friend had this played at her son’s funeral, she had no idea about Pink Floyd but it was what her other sons wanted.
