Having just watched the first semi finals of Eurovision I was shocked at how it has changed. Once a competition to find the best song it now seems that the musical composition is irrelevant and the main focus is on the sometimes hideous and overtly erotic performances by the so called artists wearing very little.. Time to call it a day as I fail to see how it can be taken seriously.

I don't know how to articulate this really but when I was a child and I first encountered "a song for Europe", I thought each song would be something inspiring about, or at least relevant to, the respective artists' country. I was rather disappointed to see that it was just ordinary pop songs with no significance to anything.

It’s shameful that this act represents the UK.
The song itself is nothing great, but the singer could have simply been on stage by himself singing it.Yuk.

Im not a big TV fan at the best of times but I will find work to do on the computer and later something on Disney to stream. I am in the final series of Revenge.

The first minute was more than enough for me! Grim! If that’s the best that we can offer… How sickening for performers who have real talent to see this lot get through.

In case anyone hasn't seen it.

There has been a bit of a backlash on social media from Eurovision fans who do not seem to like the satantic porn acts. Thank goodness some of them have sense.

On the whole people just go with the flow like sheep.🐑 If it's supposed to be good or deemed to be cool then they say they like it. Someone has to be brave enough to say no, this is not cool, it's disgusting. 🤮

maddyone Wed 08-May-24 17:20:34

It seems it’s a no from us then grin

Urmstongran Wed 08-May-24 16:33:07

I’d rather stick pins in my eyes.

Bridie22 Wed 08-May-24 16:28:57

Speechless after watching Ollys soft porn display, and the vocals were crap also1🥴

BlueBelle Wed 08-May-24 16:08:26

Just watched our song on YouTube it’s pretty awful isn’t it? who is the little guy singing upside down, sideways, leg spreading, bumping his bits around yuk yuk yuk
I am about as far from prudish as can be and I thought it was horrible

Bring back Sam Ryder

Granny23 Wed 08-May-24 16:01:22

I thought it was just me who turned it off as I have no desire to watch pornography. Seems most Gransnetters thought the same.

BlueBelle Wed 08-May-24 15:59:52

I don’t think it’s happened yet Crazyhorse 🙃

I gave it a miss this year - who won?

Whethertomorrow Wed 08-May-24 15:48:33

I love it!

You do have to wade through some peculiar songs to get some good ones. France 1991 was good and I still listen to it now.

Sex seems to have really intruded this year though and will no doubt continue to ruin the music.

As for Ireland’s entry it wasn’t music it was screeching.

Still no one gets hurt by watching it, and if you don’t like it, don’t watch it.

Ladyleftfieldlover Wed 08-May-24 15:35:58

I last watched this many years ago when my children insisted on having it on. They hated it. I’d rather eat toothpaste.

Jewelle Wed 08-May-24 15:27:35

I’ve just watched the UK entry, oh dear what a mess. grin grin grin

His codpiece should have had its own mic it was that large grin

Lollin Wed 08-May-24 15:27:19

Having viewed our entry I too think it’s time to scrap it. I hear it’s not the only daft/attention seeking/words fail me, entry again.

Callistemon21 Wed 08-May-24 15:22:50

Oh no.

Well, I'll support him whatever 🙃

merlotgran Wed 08-May-24 15:21:42

I meant to add, If you’re going to upset the pearl clutchers and have disgusted of Tunbridge Wells grabbing her pen and paper, you’ve got to be worthy.

It was dismal!

Callistemon21 Wed 08-May-24 15:20:42

maddyone

I loathe Eurovision in particular because of all its vile political voting.
Should have been scrapped years ago.

Yes.
Nul points for guessing that Israel won't be winning this year.

As for the UK entry, I must go and listen to Ollie.

merlotgran Wed 08-May-24 15:17:29

I watched bits of it last night and caught Ollie Alexander’s performance.

Id love to know what Terry Wogan would have made of it. 🤔😂

Jaxjacky Wed 08-May-24 14:40:15

Not for us I’m afraid, never has been, plenty of other programmes to watch and things to do.

Totally agree with this! I also am no prude,(never have been)! But where do we draw the line? Yes children will watch this, unfortunately unless their parents are clued up enough to protect them from it. Come back Mary Whitehouse! She had a point.Goodness knows how she would have reacted to that! Apoplexy no doubt!😱

maddyone Wed 08-May-24 09:55:22

Don’t worry Maybee, no one will vote for us anyway.

MayBee70 Wed 08-May-24 09:53:34

If we didn’t automatically go through to the final I think the UK song would have been eliminated. I’m no prude (at least I didn’t think I am) but everything about it was vile.
