Having just watched the first semi finals of Eurovision I was shocked at how it has changed. Once a competition to find the best song it now seems that the musical composition is irrelevant and the main focus is on the sometimes hideous and overtly erotic performances by the so called artists wearing very little.. Time to call it a day as I fail to see how it can be taken seriously.

I ve never ever been a fan but little snaps I ve seen this year do not make me want to start watching so no I ll be giving it a miss

fancythat Wed 08-May-24 07:49:47

I have watched it sometimes in the past.
Like others here, from what little I have seen, I will give it a miss this year I think.

Just wait until you see the UK's effort!

Calendargirl Wed 08-May-24 07:56:08

Come back Dana and Johnny Logan, all is forgiven!

I love Eurovision, in all its gloriously over-the-top bonkersness. And lots of the songs/performers are good, if not always to British taste. It’s brought a number of performers, who might have taken much longer to reach wider audiences, massive European success - although I admit that’s a double edged sword as you then get countries putting in very similar acts.

Another Eurovision fan here, I love Ollie Alexander’s (U.K.) entry.

Just seen/ heard it. Oh dear.

lixy Wed 08-May-24 08:28:09

Prefer to listen to it on the radio. We once did a long car journey scoring the entries as we crawled up the M4. I think the songs sound better than they look!

This year I booked theatre tickets so we'll miss it, what a pity. wink

Louella12 Wed 08-May-24 08:36:37

I'm wondering if they're going to remove the simulated sex part of our entry.

I quite like the song but the video seems very odd. I'm no prude. I loved Its a Sin and Relax was fabulous

Just not overly sure we need this for Eurovision

The song in itself is fun

I think we'll either win or get nul points

I loathe Eurovision in particular because of all its vile political voting.
Should have been scrapped years ago.

FindingNemo15 Wed 08-May-24 09:02:07

I found the flashing lights too much.

keepingquiet Wed 08-May-24 09:05:09

I used to be a big fan and loved working out the scores and realising I was hopeless at picking the winners!

I won't be watching this year though- it has become a parody of itself. Maybe I'm getting old lol!

RosiesMaw Wed 08-May-24 09:05:40

This sums it up for me

That’s one way of putting it😂
DP’s way is unprintable on here. Our act is so awful it may win.

This as well as the overall awfulness.

I agree with the above. I liked the song, but the simulated gay sex in a dirty public toilet was vile!

One woman was near naked with a see-through body suit and one man was supposed to be naked but had a flesh-coloured joke strap on..Yuk!

Bring back Cliff Richards, Lulu & the group that sang 'making your mind up' [can't think of their name]

Freya5 Wed 08-May-24 09:36:06

Has now seemingly become a trashy show for exhibitionism and erotica. From what I see on independant TV. The person representing us, cannot even sing.
No I do not watch it, haven't done for years.

Yoginimeisje Wed 08-May-24 09:41:40

Oh, and I was hoping Ireland wouldn't get through. Usually Ireland is really good, but not this time, it was satanical, which is surprising as it's a very religious Catholic country. She/he was waving the transgender flag at the end. And Oz had 3 drag queens to represent them. I did like the Aboriginal playing the digeridoo.

rafichagran Wed 08-May-24 09:45:31

I don't mind it, I think it's funny, especially the political voting, some of the acts are gloriously over the top. Agree about Ollie Alexander I like him.

Chestnut Wed 08-May-24 09:53:16

I've only seen UK and Ireland and I'm not sure which is worse. One is depraved and the other satanic. This is not a family programme any more, but sadly children will see it.

It is no longer a Eurovision 'song' contest. It's just bells and whistles, costumes, sets and dancers and trying to shock everyone.

MayBee70 Wed 08-May-24 09:53:34

If we didn’t automatically go through to the final I think the UK song would have been eliminated. I’m no prude (at least I didn’t think I am) but everything about it was vile.

maddyone Wed 08-May-24 09:55:22

Don’t worry Maybee, no one will vote for us anyway.

Totally agree with this! I also am no prude,(never have been)! But where do we draw the line? Yes children will watch this, unfortunately unless their parents are clued up enough to protect them from it. Come back Mary Whitehouse! She had a point.Goodness knows how she would have reacted to that! Apoplexy no doubt!😱

Jaxjacky Wed 08-May-24 14:40:15

Not for us I’m afraid, never has been, plenty of other programmes to watch and things to do.
