Having just watched the first semi finals of Eurovision I was shocked at how it has changed. Once a competition to find the best song it now seems that the musical composition is irrelevant and the main focus is on the sometimes hideous and overtly erotic performances by the so called artists wearing very little.. Time to call it a day as I fail to see how it can be taken seriously.

I'm just glad Katie Boyle isn't alive too see what's going on

Etoile2701 Sat 11-May-24 16:43:11

I will definitely give it a miss. It used to have class but not now.

I read earlier that the Dutch contestant has been disqualified after a backstage incident described as intimidation. The incident was reported to the police and he’s been removed from the competition.

If the gay brigade want to hijack Eurovision then fine, let them have it. What I object to is seeing people grinding each other in simulated sex because it was and should be a family programme.

Saw a couple of male dancing singers called the London Boys on an old edition of TOTP from the 1980s and they were great. They managed to sing a catchy song and dance brilliantly without simulating sex. So you have to wonder why it's not possible to do that now. I wish this was our entry:

London Nights
or....
Requiem

What a silly phase that is

pick my eyes out

As if anyone would!

I'm watching something else. Eurovision used to be really good when I was younger, particularly in the eighties, but now it's trashy, has an agenda and the acts this year were abysmal. I saw three men in leather shorts, thigh length boots and collars and switched off.

Callistemon21 Sat 11-May-24 15:36:08

Oh dear. Poor Olly
Hope his Mum's not reading this.

I rather pick my eyes out than watch that rubbish

Well, I can't say I would, having had a painful eye problem recently.
And if someone gave me £1 million to watch it I would.
I'm easily bought 😂😂😂

But, thankfully, I have a prior engagement this evening.

Let me know how it goes, those who watch it 😀

Cumbrianmale56 Sat 11-May-24 15:28:06

I think it's become too gay oriented and for all they might harp on about " diversity", it seems to have been hijacked by gay men to the detriment of everyone else. I much preferred the Eurovision of my youth when it was just a singing contest with acts of varying quality and everyone seemed to enjoy it.

Couldn’t agree more well said

I loathe Eurovision in particular because of all its vile political voting.
Should have been scrapped years ago.

Why because you don’t like it? It’s more popular now than it’s ever been, I’ve been watching it since the late sixties and there have been times when I felt like I was in the minority. Not anymore, I love the way younger people are embracing it. How arrogant to think it should be scrapped when millions of people enjoy watching it every year. Yes there is political voting but it never leads to an unfair win.

I thought Olly’s video looked like an old underpass that I used to walk through!

The grinding etc has been all sexes, and genders.

This tear body stockings and grinding… a previous year dressing up and noisy.

Maybe they reflect the generation they are intended for?

Iwtwab12bow Sat 11-May-24 12:49:03

It's fun ! Does anyone out there remember fun? If you don't like it,you have the remote. Switch off !

Says a lot about the level of intelligence of the people who selected, performed, wrote and choreographed the UK entry. I'm no prude but find it offensive as apparently do many others.

Candelle Sat 11-May-24 12:04:59

I am in a minority here: I love Eurovision!

I think it now helps if one is gay or anything other than hetrosexual and I am not, so I am struggling with the overt grinding (male and female!) which seems obligatory now. Ditto the diaphanous costumes. We all have the same bodies but obviously some feel the need to prove it!

Although it is probably my age showing as I dislike all of the above, I can muster the ability to laugh, which enables me to keep viewing.

The audience love every moment and what's not to like there? People singing and clapping and having fun. Just not my fun but I love them enjoying it.

I have watched every Eurovision and despite the semi-rigged voting (one country voting for their near neighbour etc.), I still love it (a sign of madness?.....).

Mojack26 Sat 11-May-24 11:55:13

Hate it....always been so political and now just absolute rubbish! Love our song but the video is a liad of gyrating thrusting men in a public toilet!🤢🤮

Callistemon21 Sat 11-May-24 11:46:55

Oh dear ....

We're not going to win, are we! At least it means we don't have to host it next time.

georgia101 Sat 11-May-24 11:45:18

I only saw a few acts but so over the top that it convinced me not to watch this year too. It gets worse every year, but have watched it up to now. I give in.

Millie22 Sat 11-May-24 11:44:14

I've just had a look at Olly's song and managed about 4 seconds on you tube.

Frankly it's awful what are they doing in a shower room wearing boxing shorts. Maybe I don't want to know!!

Sam Ryder ... come back we need you 😂

Amalegra Sat 11-May-24 11:42:39

I think that Eurovision is a load of lousy music, over indulgent staging, sentimental drivel about the ‘fellowship of nations through music’ and strategic voting that has always been influenced by politics. As a licence payer it’s just one more awful jamboree the BBC waste our money on. About time we stopped giving this has been rubbish any credence or attempted part in what’s left of our national life.

Suzey Sat 11-May-24 11:39:47

I always watch it , it's seems to be who can look the most weird now

When did it all go wrong ?!

When did it all go wrong ?!
Much of it has been very strange over the years

Sam would have won but for the political vote! He was quite normal 😀

Oh for the days of Terry Wogan

Oh I used to love Eurovision. It was a peek into a glamerous world. The dresses, Katie Boyle in peach flitting effortlessly between languages, a man with a moustach picks up a baton and conducts a full live orchestra, a waif like figure from some obscure Balkan place belts out a heart breaker.

Later, Terry Wogan with his pithy and witty observations.

And now we have Bambi and sex in a toilet.
