I’m currently swapping back and forth between Dalziel and Pascoe on iPlayer and Ugly Betty on All4. They couldn’t be more different, I watched both of them when they were first shown but have forgotten a lot and am really enjoying them both.

Puzzlelove I'd read that a 3rd series was planned but because of the demographics of watchers was almost exclusively older people they couldn't justify the cost.

No idea how accurate that is...
But it does explain the ending of series 2

Just watching "Home Fires" - a "comfortable" (if i can call it that) series set in a village community and centred on the WI during WW11.

We loved this series. Such a shame that they only produced a couple of series. I’ve downloaded the book so that I can read what happens.

I'm enjoying 'Heart Beat' and 'The Bill'. Good Golden Oldies. I find it difficult to hear some of the modern dramas - the diction can be quite poor though probably due to the sound systems used. OR perhaps it's my ears needing attention!!!!

There’s another old detective series, can’t think of it’s name,
Starring Martin Shaw and Lee Ingleby, it’s set near Newcastle and is a really good series set I think in the late 60’s and early 70’s.

We’re watching Dalziel and Pascoe finding it hilarious in parts, such great acting. I don’t know why we haven’t watched it before.
Totally politically incorrect.

Thanks everyone for sharing all your recommendation's.

I’m so pleased to see DALGLIESH is back Fridays on Chanel 5. It’s an English series and he’s a detective but totally different from the normal. My husband used to say he looked like he’d got a poker up his backside but he certainly knows how to solve murders and with the ad breaks I can either choose to record or watch live. It’s a brilliant series and not much swearing so I highly recommend it. Thanks to everyone for their suggestions especially the films, I’ve just watched Phantom of the Open I really enjoyed 🤗

Ideas all very welcome.

Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries -set in Australia. We binge watched them but I’m not sure where they’re on at the moment.

Cocopops glad to hear the new series of Virgin River is being filmed. The locations are certainly spectacular.

CocoPops Sat 08-Jun-24 17:28:44

Thirdinline "Virgin River" is filmed in various places around Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. If you Google filming locations you will find precise places.

So many good series have been mentioned.
I'll just add a few I am enjoying at the moment or have enjoyed in the past.

Brothers and Sisters.
It was on quite a few years ago but is starting a rerun from the first episode on the channel W. Starting tomorrow.

Resident Alien.
Although this is science fiction it's more of a comedy and has many laugh out loud moments.

Murdock Mysteries.
This has many series and is currently on Alibi.

Miss Scarlet and the Duke.
This is on catch up - UKTV

The Outlaws- has a third series, but you have to start at the first series. Hilarious. Stephen Merchant and many others you will recognise.

Thirdinline Sat 08-Jun-24 10:31:11

There’s also Chesapeake Shores, though it should be called peak of cheesy shores as it is very twee.

Talking of beautiful scenery in USA, I enjoyed watching Yellowstone. Totally different in pretty much every way, I can also recommend Unforgotten.

Bridie22 Sat 08-Jun-24 10:29:00

Just finished " Lost boys and fairies on bbc1, you may need tissues...only 3 episodes.

Thirdinline Sat 08-Jun-24 10:28:45

@CocoPops, where do you live? DH & I are planning to go round USA in an RV when we retire next year. I would love to see that beautiful scenery for myself.
