Grrr. I’ve just finished watching season one of 2023 only to find it ends on a cliffhanger and season two won’t air till 2025. Then it will be ages before it’s released on dvd. At least I wasn’t so enamoured if it that I worry that I won’t be around to see it, which is what used to worry me about the Lord of the Rings films and Game of Thrones. I was amazed to learn how expensive it was to make.

Okay, thanks Maybee

I haven't watched it, MayBee70 - sounds like it's not one for watching when tired! 😁

I’ve actually been watching it late at night. It’s only those two accents that I struggle with and it isn’t that I can’t understand what they’re saying, it’s just that the accents are so awful. I always have subtitles on anyway. I’ll probably buy 1883 ( at least Alex won’t be in it!).

Not a series but a film we watched a week ago. Called ‘Kindling’ Get the hankies out. Sorry but I’m unsure if it was iplayer or Netflix. It was lovely

I am making my way through "Yellowstone" ( on Amazon Prime) and am very much a fan.
It includes very contempory issues like environmental issues head on as well as Cowboys and North American Indians who may have to join forces to battle againt their common enemy. developers who are only motivated by the chance to make lots of money with a new ski resort and airport.
In addition there are 2 prequels, 1883 and 1923.
The landscapes are truely magnificent and I am beginning to understand some American History.

Have you watched 1923? I’m currently watching it on dvd but am really struggling ( in a way I never have before) with some of the accents, Jerome Flynn’s Scottish accent ( I had no idea it was meant to be Scottish) but mainly Alex’s ‘posh English accent’. I’m almost fascinated by it!

Thank you.
I've just started series 2 of Colin from Accounts - first two episodes aren't as good as the first series though - keeping fingers crossed that it improves.

Just started The Perfect Couple on Netflix , starring Nicole Kidman. I am finding it very watchable.

Yes, me too, but I had to check it was definitely Nicole Kidman as she's had so much work done to her face.

Over the last couple of evenings we’ve watched ‘Payback’ on ITV, six episodes.

It was really good, set in Edinburgh so some great scenery/sights.

Yes. I watched Yellowstone recently. I’ve got one of the prequels on dvd ( the one with Helen Mirren in); going to watch it next week. I like that actress who’s in Yellowstone…Kelly something or other ( she was in Britannia which I also loved till it went completely bonkers).

I’ve just watched Daddy Issues with David Morrissey on BBC catchup. It’s very very rude but I loved it. My daughter has just binge watched it, too. It’s unusual to see him do comedy and it’s probably the standard of acting that makes it so good.

I think Designated Survivor was good at first bug if did seem to go on too long! grin

Just finished The Gilmore Girls on ITVX. Very long and zany series. Full of every interpretation of love and absolutely no physical violence. I've been very comforted and impressed by it.

Thank you JanesandJon - enjoying The Road Dance but started watching it too late last night and so will watch today or tomorrow now. Thanks for suggesting it.

If you like detective series Grace an̈d Tower on ITVx are both very good.
I found Macintosh and Dobbs also very enjoyable to.

blue14 We really enjoyed the first few series of Murdoch Mysteries when it was first shown- thought it went a bit strange after a while, same as most long running series.

I'm watching Dalziel and Pascoe too - I've only ever seen odd episodes before. Enjoying it so far.

Not a series but The Road Dance on BBC iplayer was well worth watching .

Inspired by another thread I thought I'd just add this on here -

Freddie Flintoff’s Field of Dreams

Really excellent little documentary type series. Not just (or even mainly) about cricket.

Auntieflo Thu 15-Aug-24 18:43:24

Oreo, was it George Gently that you were remembering?
We loved those and also Martin Shaw in Judge John Deed

Just checked and series 2 of Sherwood is to be aired starting 25th August. It's worth watching series 1 if you missed it.

granfromafar Wed 14-Aug-24 22:07:29

Have just rewatched series 1 of Sherwood on BBC iplayer. I think there's a second series due out soon. Excellent cast including David Morrissey, Lesley Manville and Robert Glenister. Based on true events in a Nottinghamshire mining village over 2 time periods: the miners' disputes of 1984 and present day. Highly recommended.
