Rebus BBC IPlayer starts 17 May

I've read all the books but not watched the previous series. I emjoyed this series, did binge watch, yes Rebus did look quite clean-living but the essential things about the character, the compulsion to go it alone, rely on initiative rather than procedure, risk-take & be incredibly difficult to manage are all there.Siobhan was OK but looks too close to Rebus in age (to me).I thought Cafferty v Rebus was excellently done.

Just watched the last episode thoroughly enjoyable, bring on the next series.

I watched the first episode, the second was disgraceful and should not have been shown on mainstream TV. A drug boss torturing and mutilating a disobedient underling is not the sort of thing I want to watch.

To present it as “entertainment” is irresponsible BBC is scraping the barrel.

I haven’t read any of the books but I have to say I think it is very good, there is something about crime series set in Scotland that puts them above many others, I am thinking of Shetland and the Irvine Welsh Crime series. There is another one which has two series but I can’t bring it to mind. Re normalizing violence I’m afraid this is what 21st century Britain is like in many areas.

I couldn’t watch it, how can anyone write such gruesome scenes, as soon as a Villian is locked in a warehouse I mute and don’t look at the television for minutes until daylight appears on the screen, so I’ve given up. Didn’t know there was finger chopping last night so it was a waste of time having it on.
I think it’s normalising violence. I loved seeing Edinburgh though. I’ve never been able to watch violence on screen so it limits my viewing somewhat.

It's getting more gruesome every week! The finger chopping scene was horrendous.

Ken Stott! Wretched autocorrect!

I was looking forward to this, but didn’t care for it at all. Having read so many of the books, I’ve always seen Rebus as somewhat craggily attractive in a sort of gone-a-bit-to-seed way, and looking rather as if he lives on bacon sandwiches, booze and fags.
This Rebus just looks too young and clean-living!
I do wish they’d re-run the old ones, with Ken Scott.
And as someone said, Siobhan doesn’t look right either. 🙁

Haven't seen either of the previous series, so enjoyed it, though it was rather grim.

I loved it too, I also loved Stott but I'm hoping using a younger chap means potential for more series, there is a vacancy for a crakin' good detective story on tv now there's no Morse/Endeavor.
I love all the actors and the city, Edinburgh is just so beautiful and balances the sadness of the stories, like Oxford used to for Morse.
I hope they're filming more

He's a character that's difficult to warm to, but I think that's the point really.

I thought it was pretty well done and will continue to watch.

I'm another who said there's only one Rebus - Ken Stott - and I certainly wasn't going to watch it! Saw it on Saturday & absolutely loved it, have watched a couple more as time allows & don't really want it to finish. I'm not really thinking of it as Rebus, the chap could be called anything, & the Siobahn is so different from the girl in the books but who cares? It's a great series.

Well I said I wouldn’t but I did I binge watched all the episodes, once I started I couldn’t stop and I enjoyed them all.

Watched the first episode, not sure but will have a go for the second without using Iplayer.

I've watched two episodes but don't think I'll bother to watch the rest. The actor was fine but the storyline was just depressing and, well, boring.

I have watched it all now. It has potential but this younger version of Rebus doesn't need Siobhan so I would ditch her if there is another series. I welcome the new storylines but I would like to see him tackle some police work where he has no personal involvement, if that is possible. At the moment I am not convinced that he really is a policeman.

And Joan Hickson was the definitive Miss Marple.

No one else could hold a candle to her.

Watched the series over the weekend. Enjoyed the series but it's not Rebus. Ken Stott was Rebus. John Hannah wasn't hard enough but he did used to sleep in his chair and listen to records all the time.

In the books Rebus's ex wife was mentioned but not seen. The original series with John Hannah and Ken Stott when through the books in order. This Rebus was just a jumble also things that didn't happen.

But enjoyable if you just watch it as a dective show.

David Suchet was Poirt ( can't think how to spell it) Kenneth Branagh , Frank Finley ,and Peter Ustinov weren't.

Reserving judgement for now. Loved Ken Stott as Rebus. One episode watched - love the Edinburgh scenery and also tge accents being an East Coast scot.

I also like this new version...... Just going with it and enjoying what it is.
