Looking forward to this. Saw a very short trailer on IPlayer and it looks promising.

Rebus is definitely on my list to watch. I usually wait till all episodes are available.

Anniebach Thu 16-May-24 12:30:50

Yes please

I love the Rebus books. The last series of Rebus I saw starred Ken Stott as Rebus, this time we`re treated to a younger, more handsome Rebus. Not that I don`t like Ken Stott!

Parsley3 Thu 16-May-24 19:02:55

Ken Stott was my idea of Rebus but I am looking forward to a new depiction of him.

I’m really looking forward to this, Richard Rankin is always very watchable. I didn’t particularly like John Hannah as Rebus but loved Ken Stott’s portrayal over the years.

Parsley3 Fri 17-May-24 07:30:18

John Hannah was definitely miscast as Rebus.

Aveline Fri 17-May-24 07:50:48

I agree John Hannah was all wrong. I like Ken Stott but his Glaswegian accent jarred. I'm sure it would seem just generic Scottish to non Scots which is fine I suppose. But I'm hoping for an accent that matches the location better.

Parsley3 Fri 17-May-24 07:57:30

That's interesting because I don't hear a Glaswegian accent when I listen to Ken Stott as Rebus and I grew up in Glasgow.

Aveline Fri 17-May-24 08:23:53

He'll sound fine to Glaswegian ears of course!

It is on tomorrow, Saturday on BBC1. I cannot remember the time. I have read every Rebus book and I also was not a fan of John Hannah playing Rebus.

At last something to watch and being a Scot should understand the lingo.

NanKate Fri 17-May-24 10:00:23

You are right Charleygirl it starts on Saturday in England and Friday in Scotland. 👍

It’s available now on iPlayer

Just realised that this is being shown tonight Fri at 9pm on BBC Scotland (freeview), aswell as on iplayer.

Iam64 Fri 17-May-24 20:45:26

Thanks for this. I like the books and need something good to watch on tv

Streaky Fri 17-May-24 21:01:05

Just watched the first episode on iPlayer. I had to resist the temptation not to binge all episodes, I want it to last!
I’m a big Ian Rankin fan so I was looking forward to this. I enjoyed the first episode, thought Richard Rankin was great as a younger Rebus, my maiden name is Rankin so it’s a bit of a family affair! Not keen on the actress playing Siobhan Clark, not at all how I imagined the character.

grannydarkhair Fri 17-May-24 21:06:26

All six episodes are now on iPlayer.
Ken Stott’s accent never bothered me and although not born here, I’ve lived in Scotland (Dundee/near-by) for 65+ years.
Richard Rankin is also from Glasgow, it’ll be interesting to see how he sounds.

grannydarkhair Fri 17-May-24 21:08:49

*Streaky” You’re better than me, I know I’ll binge all six once I start watching 😁

LadyGracie Fri 17-May-24 22:57:46

We watched the first episode and won't be watching anymore. Neither DH or me enjoyed it.

Aveline Sat 18-May-24 06:17:20

Oh dear. I was looking forward to bingeing it too

LadyGracie Sat 18-May-24 13:42:37

We looked forward to it, something to pass an evening or two.

Oh no, I was really looking forward to it. I love John Hannah but he was miscast as Rebus, Ken Stott was perfect. I’ll give it a try with 🤞🏻 .

Been really looking forward to this. Awful. So extremely thuggish and such a disappointment. And, yes, I have read the books but a long time since. Oh dear......

fiorentina51 Sun 19-May-24 07:04:34

I've not read the books but do remember the earlier TV versions. I watched episode 1 last night and found it held my interest, so will stick with it and see how it pans out.
