I`m an unashamed Elvis fan from way back in the late 1950s. Every so often I do what I`ve been doing this week, watching the little videos that are all over the internet, and listening to that wonderful voice that I love to hear. This week I came across a song I hadn`t heard before, don`t know how I missed it, "Mary in the Morning", now can`t stop listening to it.
Are there any more Elvis fans on Gransnet, please don`t say I`m the only one?

I was never a big fan of Elvis (or anyone else for that matter!) until I heard “In the Ghetto”. Heartbreaking! I heard that it was his favourite song, but I’m not sure how true that is…

Another big Elvis fan here. I only know Glen Campbell’s version of Mary in the Morning which I love, so I will definitely search for the Elvis version.

My youngest son went to America earlier in the year and visited elvis’s house he is now completely smitten with elvis’s music. I listened to him in the 70’smore rod Stewart fan but my brothers all loved him.

I can also recommend the Joe Longthorne version.

Yes, I still love Elvis - some of his songs are sublime. I never used to like him, funnily enough, until he died when I was 15. My mum was a huge fan of his (perhaps I was taking a stand against my mum's taste). I remember her coming in my room to tell me he'd died and I felt so sad - from that moment I've adored him.

My favourite songs are You Were Always on My Mind, and Marie's The Name.

But my favourite film is Charro because he was just so flippin' gorgeous in it. He took my breath away. Elvis with a beard! (The film itself was dire, however)

WOW! I never expected so many replies to my post last night, lovely to hear that Elvis still has so many admirers. He had a lovely voice...............but those looks!!

Visited Graceland a few years back, also his humble home in Tupelo and the Sam Phillips recording studio where he first started recording. I remember feeling a great a sense of sadness that he had died so young.

Have listened to ‘Mary in the Morning’…..jury’s out. 😂

For many years, an Elvis fan was the cleaner & attendant at the basement Ladies' loo in the Natural History Museum ( next to the designated picnic space). I used to go regularly, and although I'm not the greatest Elvis fan (sorry!) but loved that it was just such an amazing space full of memorabilia - so unexpected, eccentric and fun!
I think it was about 20 years ago that I went and found it gone (the Elvis stuff, not the loo!). There was no attendant. I asked at reception, but of course, no-one knew what I was talking about!

I was so shocked when he died so young. There will never be another like him. My Mum loved him so much we played ‘You were always on My Mind’ at her funeral.

I was a great Elvis fan back in the day.

My parents bought me a radiogram, and an Elvis 78rpm record was the first I bought.

I have many favourite Elvis songs, such as Suspicious Minds, If I Can Dream, American Trilogy, Peace in the Valley, Wooden Heart ... too many to mention.

He had an amazing voice and so good looking. He deserved the title of King.

I love Elvis….trouble and American trilogy are just a couple of my faves….
I always thought if he married me he’d be alive today, I’d keep him on the straight and narrow 😅

Mary In The Morning is a beautiful song. My parents too my best friend and me to see That’s The Way It Is at the Ritz Leicester Square in 1971, it’s my favourite Elvis album and so very well played!

In the late 1960s my friend and I wanted to chain ourselves to the railing outside Graceland and wait for Elvis to come out. He would then take us inside....of course! 💖💖

As we were penniless teenagers this was not possible....of course! 😞

I'm not EP's biggest fan. I like some of his music but most of the films, well ... meh.

The exception is Love me Tender. I expect now I'd think it corny as a field of maize but I remember watching that with my grandad on the old black & white TV set when I was about 11 or 12 and absolutely loving it. I cried buckets at the end and then felt embarrassed. I stole a look at grandad, hoping he hadn't noticed, and was astounded and touched to see him also wiping away a couple of tears. My big, tough grandad crying at a movie. Who'd have thought?
We gave each other a wobbly grin and it was never, ever referred to but the title song will still make me cry if it catches me unawares.

Scribbles The movies are mostly awful but that was the Colonel's decision. He was the puppet master and pulled the strings unfortunately.

Love Me Tender was good, along with Flaming Star. I think Jailhouse Rock was good, but haven't seen it for many years. Blue Hawaii was fun. The others got steadily worse over the years and Elvis hated them!

Hellogirl1 I've just asked my Google Nest to "play relaxing music," and Elvis singing "Mary in the morning" came on 🥰

Hellogirl1 Sat 29-Jun-24 11:19:07

Some good taste there!

I also grew up loving Elvis. Colonel Parker did him no favours. Elvis was unique. He was a gentle soul. I still listen to his music. It was such a sad demise for a man who had so much to live for.

soop Sun 21-Jul-24 15:13:30

My favourite song remains ' You were always on My Mind' smile I also love the film of him singing 'Jailhouse Rock'.

Grandmabatty Sun 21-Jul-24 15:23:40

Soop I liked Willy Nelson's version too

Have you seen the Mary in the Morning rehearsal video on YouTube? It shows his cheeky sense of humour.
