Anyone watching? I like Jenna Coleman, but not sure we need another child grooming story. Also hadn't realised there were two different time scales!

We are sort of hooked now. DH adjusted something on our sound bar which helped with the dialogue.

I wanted to finish some knitting and stayed up late last night, so watched the whole thing. Without giving too much away, I guessed the premise of the outcome ages ahead, which is always a disappointment, as I hope to be proved wrong.

The scenery was good. I doubt there will be a series 2, but I think I would watch it if they made one. 6/10 for me.

If the stable scene was what I thought it was then the BBC has reached new depths of depravity.
Yes it was what you thought it was. That’s when I switched off 😡

Oh Lord, I was really hoping it wasn’t that….. angry

We weren’t impressed by episode 1 at all, but the twist at the end was interesting so we carried on with the second episode. I’m now into the story and we’ll probably watch the other two episodes tonight.

I had to sit closer to the screen though and put the subtitles on. With DH’s dodgy ears and my dodgy eyes we were struggling!

I thought the acting was poor, the plot was unbelievable and it seems to have ended in the middle! (Watched all 4 episodes).

I started watching because there was nothing else on. Like many, it didn't grip me and used a lot of common tropes Happy Valley did much better.

I don't know at what point I realised the school segments were flashbacks. Maybe I was slow on the uptake.

However, by the end I was hooked and admit to binge watching.

No spoilers, but it had so many twists and turns I felt dizzy by the end!

Reasonably entertaining but by no means original (except one storyline, which did keep me watching) and I doubt there will be a second series. Filled a few hours.

I wonder why the police woman hasn’t spoken to the missing girls friend, Catelyn? I think she had something to do with it.

Iam64 Wed 17-Jul-24 08:45:38

I couldn’t help but wonder what will happen to the rich depraved damaged young woman. So far, she has no redeeming features, something that often predicates a Terrible Fate.

I’m enjoying it. Looking forward to episode 3.

As usual a lot of running around in the dark, dodgy sound, and a mother looking younger than her daughter. And is there really anyone called Ember?

Well, I thought it was a typo and meant Amber.

Iam64 Tue 16-Jul-24 21:28:48

It’s filmed around Hollingsworth Lake an area surrounded by wild beautiful countryside . I’m enjoying the scenery
acknowledge Jenna Coleman doesn’t look or behave like any detectives I know but hey ho. I think she’s 34 and her daughter 17
I agree with others, the stable scene was depraved and a bridge too far for me. The actor playing the damaged dangerous rich kid is doing enough to scare me without scaring the horses
I’ll watch episode 2

It's been mooted as "could this be the new Happy Valley?" whoever said that, you've gor to be kidding! Only watched episode 1, wasn't that smitten, especially after the stable scene, not sure if I want to continue with it.

Gummie Tue 16-Jul-24 19:55:27

Watched 20 minutes and got bored so turned it off.

Whoever wrote that article needs to brush up on his knowledge of England. I assume it’s a southerner who doesn’t have a clue about ‘the north’. Just because a lake was involved, it has to be the Lake District! There is a lake in Lancashire, you know as the Lake District is all in Cumbria! Is that also the reason for some of these remarks about not understanding the characters? We don’t all speak the King’s English you know but can still be understood.

BevSec Tue 16-Jul-24 18:21:04

I persevered and did end up enjoying it.

I think mums who had their baby young do seem younger later. From my own experience.

In Corrie, Sarah looks about the same age as her daughter Bethany.

Mind you, I think she was meant to be about 13 when pregnant.

Yes, that stable scene was weird and cringey!

BlueBelle Tue 16-Jul-24 17:27:38

Fell asleep 😴 it was slow so far dreary
I thought the actress’s looked about 12 so found it really hard to believe in her

petra Tue 16-Jul-24 17:23:53

What the hell was the stable scene about with the horse. 🤦🏼‍♀️

Chestnut Tue 16-Jul-24 17:15:11

There are a lot of complaints about the sound:
www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-13637565/BBC-Jetty-slammed-opening-episode-fans-rage-audio-issues-Jenna-Coleman.html

We've had threads about TV sound before and apparently they really don't check the sound quality any more before transmission. And it's been going on for years!

Remember Jamaica Inn (BBC 2014) which had very poor reviews due to mumbling dialogue and sound issues. So this has been going on for at least 10 years. Absolutely pathetic BBC, get your act together. What is the point of spending loads of money making a drama series if the sound is abysmal. It's just as important as the picture.

Namsnanny Tue 16-Jul-24 17:11:52

J Coleman's character would only be around 32 if her daughter was 15y.
I thought I heard her say she was 17 when pregnant?
The actress playing the daughter looks too old to me.
Not keen on this type of story line, as we have had a glut of similar ones, but considering it is 'summer' and not a lot on I will give it another go.

Puzzlelove Tue 16-Jul-24 16:54:19

We enjoyed it but really struggled with hearing it.

Oh! I am planning to start watching it this afternoon.

Word from the wise, don’t bother!

Thanks. I won't now!
